Thanks again for liking Middlesbrough
Boro is a great club, I hope you win the league cup 👍🏻🏆
Funny how both sing eio eio eio first time I heard this was early 80s
I'm from down south I like northerners mate and your cities
Went many times to the Den in the late 70's up to several years ago, it got lively there almost every time, miss it.
From a risk averse point of view I think I prefer the new den for the video 😀👍🏻
I like your channel Matt. No frills and no clickbait like some TH-camrs with "insane limbs" etc.
Just a bloke who likes his football going to games!
Thank you, best compliment I could ever receive, I never use the words limbs, pyros etc, those channels will eventually run out of steam 👍🏻
Great vid Mr Ground Hopper, very well balanced and engagingly presented. I was in the BK stand lower (don't ask) and keeping my gob firmly shut ! Love an away day at The Den me. Always a great atmosphere...and that Roy Green "Let 'Em Come" intro song....magic !
Sometimes by keeping your gob shut is the best policy, thanks for your comments 👍🏻
Great video. Boro always take great numbers away from home as do most north east teams. Atmosphere Boro v Chelsea was outstanding 🔥
Yes I bet the semi final was absolutely jumping 👍🏻🔴⚪️
Great vid Matt , I remember going to the old ground with Swindon which was an experience. Never had a problem at the new ground and always a cracking atmosphere.
It was a very enjoyable day, I ignored all the naysayers 👍🏻
Good blog and enjoyed the great atmosphere in a tight passionate ground from both sets of supporters. Miss Gills v Millwall games always alot of spice and banter. Here in Western Australia i have come across alot of borough fans who are loyal and have their club badge on their car number plate. Also i must confess to being a Chris Rea fan as i got frew of his lps (vinyl) , which us seniors like collecting. Keep up the good reporting and stay warm from the snow, 37 degrees in Perth. UTG
Thanks Brian as always, do you not miss scraping the ice off of your car before going to work 🥶
First time visitor to your blog, well presented and informative so cheers mate. Millwall as changed a lot with this new ground and the security it used to be evil down there. Cheers mate UTV
Thanks Leekie for your supportive comments 👍🏻⚽️
Great job mate and thanks for the positivity about our club (Millwall). Followed the Lions all over back in the late 70’s up to the 90’s, got up to 74 grounds mostly with Millwall. Ironically went to Ayresome Park twice which now doesn’t count of course. All the best to you
74 is a really good effort, one final push to get the other 18 completed 👍🏻⚽️
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 love to mate but live in the U.S now so grab what scraps I can from Millwall’s seasons when I’m home. Keep up the great work

Love this. Excellent content
Nice one, thanks for your comments 👍🏻⚽️
EXCELLENT and I have Subscribed. Really enjoyed your natural enthusiasm. Since 1962,I have attended 1,770 matches(mainly Millwall) and visited 84 Leagur grounds from Carlisle down to Plymouth and next Saturday attend my first away game for 20+ years.
True fan 👍🏻 you need to polish off the last few grounds to get you to the magical 92 👍🏻⚽️
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 Thanks Matt but that includes a few like Hereford, Aldershot and Chesterfield no longer in the league.

Good Luck mate.

I went to the den in December and it was wonderful ! Fun atmosphere and supporters. Cool walk into the park too through south London. Coyl 🦁

I went to the old den with Gills back in the day (80’s). Very hostile then too and not much of the crowd control other than keeping us behind for half hour then we had to fend for ourselves.
Great vLog again. Look forward to next weeks.
Thanks Barry, I have heard lots of great stories about the old den, football in the 70s and 80s was in a different place!
the 1970s - they has a decent side, poor crowds due to crowd issues, got to top flight football for 2 seasons in the end ! @@mattthegroundhopper9242
I was taken to the Old Den as a child back in 1973 to see the Villa. My dad was an ex-army WO and that day was probably the only time I ever saw him nervous - the day has gone down in Villa history as one of the worst batterings Villa fans ever received and although I was probably too young and naive to know what was going on around us, the old man certainly knew and he coudn't get us out of the area fast enough
I was at the game as well in the Boro end. Great game, great score
I really enjoyed it, good atmosphere and plenty of goals 👍🏻
Great video Matt. Millwall fans are simply passionate, and dont like losing at their Den. Boro fans would be the same at the Riverside. Still a brave fan, and glad you didnt mention our Gills 😅going there. All about passion for your team of course. Middlesborough does get some bad reports, and parts of the city are rough, as i know a Gills fan that lives there. Anyway, cant be that bad when one of their sons is the one and only Chris Rea, and he was driving home for Christmas lol. All the best Dave
Thanks Berlin Dave, yes no outing for my Gills cap yesterday in and around the ground 👍🏻⚽️
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 i bet lol
I have been to a few Middlesbrough games, it's a nice walk down to The Riverside. I think whenever you do a video about Millwall it's going to get a lot of views, one of my most popular videos is on The Old Den.
Yea that’s true, don’t know why, there are other better supported clubs, probably the past reputation 👍🏻
I’m in your video as well. Green coat and green cap😊😊
You’re famous 😀👍🏻
The area is very deprived which adds to the general feeling, but I've never had any trouble over there. Coming from Boro but having lived in London for many years there are a lot more intimidating places to go in our capital mate. Good game today. Great to see both sets of fans promoting a memorable atmosphere.
😀😀 Try and buy a place for under £500,000 or if you want TWO bedrooms then how about a flat at the new £25 BILLION Development at The Elephant and Castle just over one mile away. lol
The OLD Den WAS very intimidating as working-class Dockers and other fans were on ALL 4 sides of the ground, right on top of the pitch, maybe,on the s side 4 yards away hence the F L record of 59 unbeaten Home games, there. Now it is seats,as you know, and families and though can still be noisy,it is a different vibe, mate.
The Flats costing ONE MILION Pounds,I should have said. :)
Agreed, great atmosphere and the local area needs investment with government 💷💰
True enough, but you could say that (property prices) about any area in London. @@Isleofskye
Millwall is an easy away day for visitors. Hardly any home fans live in the area anymore and travel in from Kent other SE London areas.
Nice video mate, Den hasn't changed one bit! Nice to see the coke n mars back haha
Good old coke and mars, why is it so expensive there, makes no sense??
Cool to see the game from another perspective, fair to say you had better vibes at full time than me!

Excellent analysis and thank you for your kind words towards the Millwall supporters.
I was there yesterday and there are lots of other ways of getting to and from the ground other than South Bermondsey but you need a bit of local knowledge.
If you go again go via Surrey Quays.
Pubs and shops there.
Fair play to the Boro fans.
Over 1500 in attendance on a freezing cold January when everyone is skint is great commitment.
As for plans to modify The Den who knows ?
It needs it and has potential but we would need a major cash injection which is not on the Horizon.
Keep up the great work on the channel and I have dropped you a sub 👍

Thanks Kenny, thanks for your sub and welcome to the channel, noisy noisy ground 👍🏻🏟️
Ye thanks for that mate, I will remember that if we play u again
Hi Matt. Im ardent Millwall now living in Seaton. Still love Wall. Thought your comments very fair. Too many stigmatise Milllwall as being bad. All are passionate but fairly decent. Goid security at The Den eh. Glad you enjoyed your day. Gary life long Wall
Thanks Gary, i try to be fair, just a fan of grounds and UK football ⚽️👍🏻
Last time I went to the west lower Dennis Wise was player mngr Vs West Ham and they were throwing coins at Dennis when he was taking the corners 😂he just picked them all up and gave em to the kids 👍🏾 Tim Cahill , Ifil , Steve Claridge were my favourite players, Come on the Wall 💙🙌🏼!!

Don't think you de have gone there back in the day mate hope you enjoyed your visit 😁🦁
I would have loved to have visited the old den 👍🏻

Smoggie with a southern accent 😀👍🏻👍🏻
Great video!
Thanks Italian Job 👍🏻
I would love to have went to the old Den, but alas I never did. I only ever went to two grounds in London and that was Craven Cottage and the old Wembley stadium (several times with Scotland). Sadly, a lot of London clubs have left their old grounds now though Fulham, Leyton Orient, Crystal Palace, Charlton Athletic, QPR and Chelsea are still at the old ones. And Chelsea's Stamford Bridge is unrecognisable from the old days.
New stadiums are great but I still love the old ones as well 👍🏻
My dad took me to the old den in 88 n I've been wall since. There was no other ground in the country like it
Not as packed as you would get away sell out , if there wasn't a cup game coming up.
Great video for fans wanting to know what it's like before deciding which ground/games to visit. UTB
Thanks for your comments, i like it, it’s more like an educational video now 👍🏻surely there must be government funding available for an educational video 💷💰👍🏻
The Old Den? Absolutely. Now, like with every club that had a reputation, it has all simmered down with the security, cameras, police etc etc. If you want to experience hostile atmospheres you need to go abroad if I'm being honest. Great video 👍
Yea like a derby in Turkey or the Belgrade derby, thanks for your comments and support 👍🏻⚽️
Fair play to you mate👍
Thanks Allan 👍🏻⚽️
I was sat in the bottom tier of the Boro end. We made a mad rush at the final whistle to get out before the crowd control and we were on a train within 5 mins of full time.
Not so lucky for the rest of us

Thanks Colin 👍🏻⚽️
I think we would of had more than 2.5k away crowd if it wasn't for the trains disruptions in London and nightmare traffic down there Glad you got to sample.a.little.of the Boro away day atmosphere UP THE BORO!🔴⚪️🔴⚪️

Been to both the old den and the new den watching the Clarets. No problems at all and when we passed a Millwall boozer and there boys stood outside my mate said how’s it going ladies 😅 every club has its nutters
Blimey, your mate was brave 😂
you're right about the den having bugger all done to it since opening. redevelopment plans have been faffed about with for over 10 years, and still are. as far as i know any refurb is tied to some sort of council master plan to redevelop bermondsey as a whole so until that happens the den stays as is.
For the first time in 20 years,I wnt to Charlton recently and they filled in the 2 sides of the Home End in the corners which is much better.
Also,I enter my 8th decade next year but I want to STAND so why is there not "Safe Standing" like so many grounds these days? Give fans a choice and watch the atmosphere intensify.
I am a big fan of standing areas 👍🏻
If they filled in some of the corners that would make a huge difference 👍🏻⚽️
@@Isleofskye if redevelopment plans included ripping the seats out of the lower block of cold blow lane and keeping that section for standing only i doubt any fans would object, me included
@@mattthegroundhopper9242 100% CORRECT....I prefer Charlton's ground because of that.
Remember going there sometime in the 80s with man city, just after the kings cross fire, didn't get any myther till we got to London/tower bridge(not sure which one)on the way back to eustonthen it went off big time that bad that they banned city fans the next time we played there. Also after that game the odd lott had enough and loads lads doors went in after the new year, then we found out the odd lott had infiltrated city's mob.operation omega they called it,they used video of the millwall game in court. Wasn't long after the city fans were jailed that HMP Strangeways went up in flames.
Great story, i remember the Strangeways riot as a kid!
The old den maybe. Back in the early '90's went there twice. Won in the last minute and so many coins were coming over the fencing, could have opened a bank account with them. Police escort through Bermondsey were having to take cover. Our play off win at the new den in '94 our g/k was attacked on the pitch at full time and our local radio station car put on its roof. Maybe just a one off and things have changed a lot since then.

My first away game for 20+ years with Millwall at QPR next week. My first game at QPR/Millwall was 3/1 Rangers in 1967:). The previous year was 6/1 and Millwall fans sat in the centre circle to get the game abandoned :)

Went to the old Den many years ago. Many Millwall fans shook our hands and thanked us for coming down. Not many away supporters used to go there back in the 70's. Millwall won 4-1 and as we left the ground about 300 of their fans tried to kill us. Funny af.

I've been to The Den as a neutral a few times and always found it to be a great day out.@@mattthegroundhopper9242
So heavily policed these days down the den, mostly get some spirited bods there for the football and a day out
Get some of the "troublemakers" at the larger fixtures, and a few of the big away days, but no point turning up week in and out with how much OB is about in and out the ground.
Overall always hear its a good day out as an away fan for a fun atmosphere and a piss up in the capital if that's what you're looking for. If you come looking for trouble can certainly find it, but them days are all but gone really!
