Don't be cheap! Have some standard for yourself. Let the little guys fight it out. A customer that wants to be cheap isn't the kind of customer you want anyway, these are the ones that ask "as long as your there...can you? / can you? / can you?"
Keith, man, I gotta say: I really appreciate all these videos you're posting. Not only do you crack me up but your channel is a wealth of information! If I can get my business started this late in the season with my lack of experience.... I'm going to owe you huge, dude.
You have helped me soooo much, I just started my window cleaning business this week and watching all your videos gives me all the answers. I can't thank you enough
"Jumping over dollars to get to nickels." - Well put man. This is only my second season, but I raised my prices and put minimum pricing in place this year. It's already weeding out the cheapskates. There are plenty of lowballers in my area for the cheapos to choose from. Those aren't the clients we're looking for anyway. Big fan of the channel!
I fully agree. And all saying yes to doing jobs cheaply will do is make you bitter in the long run and make you resent the customer. Every time you go to clean the glass you go pissed off. Great video! Great information!
Love it and I agree 100%!! Having a min has stopped me from getting burned a million times over. Before I had one, I DID get burned many times over!!! Live and learn- preach on brother Keith..... Preach on......
I completely agree on the minimum charge. I have completely walked away from storefront window cleaning because it eats up too much time to run around town, burning gas on $30 here, $45 there, when you can make more doing one "big" job than running around doing 6 small jobs.
This is all well and good until you lose said good job bc they can't afford it or someone outbids you. to each their own, but you have better job security keeping your prices affordable and reasonable. I agree route work can be a bit of a pain at times, but it'll be hard to ever go hungry unless we went into another Great Depression or something catastrophic happened.
You won’t have a overwhelming amount of residential jobs everyday .. and you steadily over price yourself to where no one will hire you no matter how smart you talk..all this is based upon exterior cleaning only..
What's up Keith, just gotta say bro you are inspiring. I've been in landscaping my whole life it's who I am. Been to the the mountain top.. took the fall all the way down. Lol ..you made me want to get back out there again and make it happen again. Thanks man keep the videos comin.
This type of business is chill, I have been working with my dad's window cleaning business for like two years like 5 days per year, but have always been in the working range of those who do it every week.
Very seldom do I see channels on yt that you can see their progress in their personal life, but since I started watching your vidz way back when, I have noticed a huge difference in your presence and demeanor. It really shows that you practice what u preach!! Big things are in your future, and I'm glad I'm able to witness it and tag along for the ride. Keep inspiring brother! Everyday I'm h-u-s-t-l-e-n!!!👊
This is great advice. Take the low price stuff until you get busier and increase your price as you get busy. Then increase the low cost stuff when you can afford to lose it.
Keith can you do a video of what tools you have for window cleaning, or maybe what tools you need if you're just starting up (like me) that would be top :) thanks man
There are a few factors in running a cleaning business. One resource I discovered that succeeds in merging these is the Gabs cleaner blueprint (google it if you're interested) definately the best blueprint that I've seen. Check out all the incredible info.
Keith you seriously know your stuff and now how to get a message across, I run a firewood and tree service company in Lexington Mi you make alot of awesome points. One thing I can say tho is seriously think about a diesel truck, I have a 2000 dodge cummins and its a monster pulls like a train and never gets under 20mpg, best ive got empty is 26. Just my 2c but I really think the lower overhead has kept me afloat in rough times and lower delivery fees help get firewood customers. I have 308k miles and no issues pulling logs everyday.
i charge £4.50 for windows for all my customers i always target shops / stores as they easier to do less work. i could charge alot more like 5x that but i keep cheap because i taken out my competition and i get the full streets as customers /clients. i do 50 customers a day i could do more but im happy with where i am just now
inspiring. I had a window cleaning biz in Australia, I moved back to new Zealand and its difficult to figure out pricing cos the money is shit here. ive been cleaning windows since 02 but the majority of my work was abseiling so the pricing is so much different
GOD bless you, Thank you so much for such helpful profitably information. The struggle is real for me in my family but your information was a great help in for that I cerntainly appreciated.
Keith Kalfas I appreciate your videos you goof! Your inspiring. I’ve been in business since February doing all exterior cleaning of commercial and residential property and it’s going great
hey Keith. Started out window cleaning Jan 2016. Your videos and book are inspiring I'm at the point where I'm looking to take on help to get shit done haha. massive respect from Blackpool UK.
Hi, I'm Glen Pontious Of Oklahoma I own First Glass Window Cleaning I hate to put down people's work But from the videos I have just seen, the level of these professionals is very Elementary in quality of use in the Squeegee Pulling a Squeegee straight down is not a good practice,... while it maybe come the only feasible way The best way is to work you're Squeegee on the glass bringing the soapy water down the glass to wash the glass. . You never, use a "TOWEL" on the Glass. Towels are for soaking up soapy dirty water and wiping off frames and Seals . .
This business is just like any business. Supply and demand. When your booming you can demand more. If the demand is down well you might need to lower prices until the demand picks back up.
hey so today. I got a call for a window cleaning job.. I went and did a quote on it.. SHE had 150 panes plus 50 small little French panes. so a total of 200 windows .. I told her 500$ minimum. she wanted to pay only 200$ so I passed!
here's several things to consider before you begin your own cleaning business are you likely to have support from you family? Are you someone who is self-motivated? Will you carry out your plan? Do you have the funds to begin? (I read these and why they work on Gabs Cleaner Blueprint website )
As a small business owner I do not entirely agree with his charge a high minimum and keep your standards High. When you are first starting out you did it to get it. That is key to keeping your business running strong in the beginning, especially if you don't have a lot of contacts to help you get started. You can say your minimum is $85 all day long but if you only get one call every 3 days that $85 does not go very far. So maybe a small minimum is good to start but like he said raise it up as your business improves.
Your a big help to us starting our exterior cleaning business! We are trying to figure out what we need to be pricing windows at for larger facilities. Do you have any information or videos on that?
Hi Keith. What would be the ultimate set up for residential ? I was thinking setting up a van with the water system and have the connects onside the van. Just one of those little vans. With the pole system do you need ladders at all ? Thanks for your time
fuck dude how do you just be so awesome and so helpful. im blown away that i can watch this shit for free right here. im signing up to your site too man. thank you!
I did 10 big and very wide windows in and out to the point I needed a ladder, plus 6 mirrors. I was out there for 7 hrs and was only paid 50$ I feel so mad at myself... what should I do dude?
I'm going crazy still trying to figure out my minimum without losing money. Literally been contemplating what I should charged compared to what local competitors are charging for some landscaping jobs.
Im was in the same boat. haha When you get to the point where the phone is ringing off the hook.. then start hiking up prices. .. let the chips fall where they may.
Sa'Mowin Lawn Care Know your competition, and target somewhere in between. Be high or low on the scale, depends how much of an ego can you summons to support your asking price.(in other words, if you think you're all that and can back it up then bid higher) I have made formulas for almost every kind of job we do. It's really as easy as pushing the X button on my calculator. You'll get there.
Hi Mr.Kalfas, just curious if you guys did window cleaning on plaza shops because where I live it doesn't rain much but when it does it seems that the overhang on the shops prevent the Windows from getting wet..so would you recommend talking the customers into getting their Windows cleaned during the winter months?
Hey Keith!!! Your videos are great man!! Can you do one on your back office work.... How you pay employee's? Comm or hr? Plus budgeting cash flow? Any great ideas on that? I have had my window cleaning business going on two years and I started out the same way you did!! Hungry!!! And broke!! Lol!
Thank you so much for an information, it’s so helpful 👍 May God bless you and business 🙏 I have house cleaning business and I’m doing after construction cleaning also and those windows are so gross, I charge hourly but I think I should charge per window, how do you think?
Hi Keith. Question, how much would you charge for 48 commercial windows? It could be weekly or biweekly (manager not sure yet) job must be done on Friday. Thank you. I tried to add the pic so you can have a idea but I couldn't! Same windows from Subway, tall with small ones on the top and the long ones on bottom.

Yeah i see your point there mate didn't think of it like that. Thanks for the motivation, you've convinced me too take the leap of faith & become self-employed thanks man!
Hi kalfas i want run yo windows cleaning company i live at royal oak..crew leader just me or two guys.i available to move around you area if is necessary..thanks
I've had a window cleaning biz for 15 years. Your prices are outrageous. If they pay it and you can sleep at night I guess thats your choice but there's no way you get these prices with any competition. No ones gonna pay you $85 for 6 windows. I make $50-60 an hour by myself charging fair prices.
I think you missed the point. He isn't saying no one should clean these 6 windows for less than $85. He's saying his company won't. There are plenty of people, like yourself, who will clean them for far less. This customer is not in his target market.

How much should a charge a school system for 5ft by 5ft windows? Its a 3 story building. How much should I charge?
So true
Good stuff I definitely had to establish a minimum service call
Do you find some customers never call you back to do windows again even though you did an excellent job? What do you do
No mean next. Go to the next person move on

Live and learn. Look at a job, judge how long it will take and price accordingly
You should when you realised you had made a error pricing up been honest with the householder and said you need to increase your price

With residential you can average $150 per "billable" hour.

I have house cleaning business and I’m doing after construction cleaning also and those windows are so gross, I charge hourly but I think I should charge per window, how do you think?
Listened to an audio book about visioneering on youtube recently pretty interesting, also took your advice on the craiglist video you created because im trying to create a second income fixing android and iphones, since this morning i have gotten 5 texts and 4 calls and its only 5pm over here, one guy asked me what seperates you from the rest of the repair people out there i told him i can guarantee a quality dcreen replacement with original parts, i guess some people would probably give up at this stage when they are asked a question like that and realise the market is so saturated with businesses like this, i would presume this goes with the landscaping business also?
right on.
exactly
Whats your take on percentage based pay. Say you do $1000 in a day and your cut is 12% thats $120 for the day what do you think the pros and cons of percentage based pay are anyone can chime in on this one. Thanks
how much do you do for houses cleaning
Why don't you find a smaller company or a start up guy to pass these jobs on to? And then take a percentage cut. Or is it more of a reputation thing, not wanting to risk it for somehow who could turn out to be unreliable?
+t0rnapart88 absolutely. I've tried stuff like that. Very easy to on the outside but....unless its thousands of dollars.. Its not worth my time to setup a sub contractor agreement on a cash window cleaning job with a residual percentage.
There's too many variables for too little money
If the jobs were multi thousand dollar jobs then yes. But not little $20 jobs.
do you have a minimum for residential as well?
Absolutely loved this vid!!
God blessyou, because you share the you know,we are brockout, and my my husband want to star that ,cleaning windows, really,God blessyou!!!
