Almost 40 years ago I taught photography at evening adult ed classes. I launched into explaining cameras and their controls. From the back of the room, a hand went up. An older lady asked me, “how do you put film in the camera?” I had my wake up call. I had shown people how to do that for years. The lesson that I learned is this; You can never back up far enough with your presuppositions about what people know, and what they need to know. This is a lesson that this blogger needs to understand………
I agree. It is a confusing video. However, if he had to explain every word that wasn’t a common knowledge word the video would have easily been over 2 hours. If you really want to understand how crypto mining works I recommend watching this video again, and every time you dont understand a word, pause, look up the word on google, and after you understand what it means continue the video. If you dont care about trading or mining any crypto currency, just know that it is created by people making their expensive computers solve very complex math puzzles. And it only has value because people says that it does. I hope this helps and that you understand what you were looking for.

The gpus are like your calculator that solve your maths equation, the only difference is you don't punch the numbers that do it themselves. The application that you use for them to work with are the ones that gives them the equation to solve it. It takes long time for them to solve it because unlike your college maths they are way more complex. After they get the final answer you will be rewarded with either bitcoin or etherium etc anyone of them you mine. The whole process is called mining. Literally it should be called calculating.

Partly, but a lot of it is Covid. Every Video card has semi conductors and there is a general shortage of that across the board because the manufacturers shut down at the start of the pandemic. Covid has driven the demand for PC's through the roof and so has the demand for more computer centric cars. Even with the manufacturers running at 100% and new factories being built, it will take until 2023 before the available supply meets demand.

I've been researching mining, but still find it hard to get a grip on how to approach it. I have limited resources... a hydro unit with about 2kw feed, a 16°c cooling loop, and a 20/3mb GSM connection (soon to be 100/10 when Starlink opens our area). I hear a lot of people say they're generating income... but most of the TRUE profitable operations are running in Iceland with atmospheric sub-zero cooling AND free geothermal power feed. So how is it still profitable in geo-4 to geo-7 regions when these guys are mass mining in the Arctic with virtually ZERO operating costs beyond hardware maintenance?

I'm learning here. First thing, I believe I understand that mining is the process in which the miner, through complex computation, solidifies BTC transactions and assists in weeding out the possible BTC copies of themselves. Basically overseeing the crypto world and distinguishing the real from the fake. In return, the miner is (sometimes) rewarding with BTC. HOWEVER, my main question is, when will mining become obsolete? There are currently 18.7MM BTC in circulation with 21MM to ever exist. So, within the next year or two (I assume), all 21MM BTC will have been mined. Then what? One of the more intriguing aspects of BTC is that there is a finite supply. If somehow more BTC is created, then that would theoretically reduce its value based on the principle of supply and demand. Creating more BTC is the exact same as printing more dollars, which is subject to inflation. Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I truly don't know, but it appears that if you aren't already mining substantially, then you've missed the boat on it altogether. Yay, nay, or am I in the gray area?
I’m pretty sure it’s designed to get more and more difficult to mine and the process will get slower. It’s projected to release the last of the 21M by the year 2140.

Yes, otherwise big mining farms wouldn't make sense - if single card mining was losing money, then several hundreds/thousands would lose even more in total. Highest electricity cost in the world is in Germany (source: Google) with 0.387$/kwh and according to whattomine.com calculator it would make mining profitable anywhere in the world with at least an amd 400-series or newer or nvidia 1000-series or newer gpu.

It's not just say 100 a month. That's only if you HAVE to sell it at that price. If you can afford to cover the power cost and simply hold the coin longer you could earn far more per month. Just need to hold it.

I've been researching mining, but still find it hard to get a grip on how to approach it. I have limited resources... a hydro unit with about 2kw feed, a 16°c cooling loop, and a 20/3mb GSM connection (soon to be 100/10 when Starlink opens our area). Is it possible to even be profitable with this setup? I hear a lot of people say they're generating income... but most of the TRUE profitable operations are running in Iceland with atmospheric sub-zero cooling AND free geothermal power feed. So how is it still profitable in geo-4 to geo-7 regions when these guys are mass mining in the Arctic with virtually ZERO operating costs beyond hardware maintenance?

I'm learning here. First thing, I believe I understand that mining is the process in which the miner, through complex computation, solidifies BTC transactions and assists in weeding out the possible BTC copies of themselves. Basically overseeing the crypto world and distinguishing the real from the fake. In return, the miner is (sometimes) rewarding with BTC. HOWEVER, my main question is, when will mining become obsolete? There are currently 18.7MM BTC in circulation with 21MM to ever exist. So, within the next year or two (I assume), all 21MM BTC will have been mined. Then what? One of the more intriguing aspects of BTC is that there is a finite supply. If somehow more BTC is created, then that would theoretically reduce its value based on the principle of supply and demand. Creating more BTC is the exact same as printing more dollars, which is subject to inflation. Please correct me if I'm wrong, because I truly don't know, but it appears that if you aren't already mining substantially, then you've missed the boat on it altogether. Yay, nay, or am I in the gray area?

We can speculate, and Nakamoto should know everything about it, but wherever they are, they seemed to have just left us a trail of breadcrumbs. It's up to the people to make this a thing or not.

Yes, otherwise big mining farms wouldn't make sense - if single card mining was losing money, then several hundreds/thousands would lose even more in total.
Highest electricity cost in the world is in Germany (source: Google) with 0.387$/kwh and according to whattomine.com calculator it would make mining profitable anywhere in the world with at least an amd 400-series or newer or nvidia 1000-series or newer gpu.

It's not just say 100 a month. That's only if you HAVE to sell it at that price. If you can afford to cover the power cost and simply hold the coin longer you could earn far more per month. Just need to hold it.

I.e., fixed (hardware...) and variable (power, fees, etc.) costs, and short and longterm revenue scenarios. I realize that there are many possible scenarios.
