    He only played 2 years in high school and 2 years in college and added a lot of size in that time. It might take a little longer than some, but I have some high hopes for this guy. He should get some snaps in the preseason games and I hope we see him dominate.

    LVNs rookie stats are pretty comparable to some of the best edge players rookie seasons. For a kid who’s really still learning the game of football he played well last season and only will improve. 6 sacks in a rookie campaign is damn good

    He was never going to come in and start from day one. We all understood he was very, very raw. His size and speed are about as good as it gets. If his skill set can match his God given talent, this is a long term cornerstone for our defense.
    With a full year of development, I expect him to produce for us. He will not hit his ceiling this year. He will still be a work in progress.

    Thanks Andy. Been waiting for something like this for a long time💪 Very bullish on LVN. If he hits, 2023 may be the best draft class I've ever seen.

    The biggest change in the world of Lucas Van Ness heading into 2024 is the same change facing most of the defense. That is learning a new scheme. With Jeff Hafley entering the fold as the new defensive coordinator, the Packers are expected to move back to a new 4-3 defense. Or a 4-2-5, either way, it’s a change. But believe it or not, this actually benefits Lucas Van Ness, he spent most of his collegiate career at Iowa with his hand in the dirt. Lucas Van Ness would line up on the edge, or 7 in the middle of the defensive line, and still have success getting penetration on the ball carrier at Iowa. Being only a year removed from this type of scheme or positional ask, Lucas Van Ness should be almost ready to go to contribute at a higher level in 2024. Originally I thought there was a chance given Lucas Van Ness’s speed, he end up more in the linebacker position alongside Quay Walker as an inside linebacker in that 4-2-5 scheme. After the drafting of Edgerrin Cooper, however, it seems like that idea has faded as Edgerrin Cooper is a strong favorite now to play as a great complement to Quay Walker. After a year though, Lucas Van Ness is back in his element. He’s used to putting his hand in the dirt whether it’ll be in the middle of the defensive line or the outside. He got to be the 13th overall draft pick for a reason by playing in that element. It’s time for Lucas Van Ness to show us exactly why that is. With Rashan Gary and Preston Smith being technically the only other 2 edge rushers given with Kingsley Enagbare still recovering from injury, Lucas Van Ness is ready to stop up in his absence. We fully expect Lucas Van Ness to see the field a lot more in his 2nd NFL season. Whether that’ll be as an edge rusher or interior lineman will remain to be seen. But no matter what, Lucas Van Ness can be an absolute game-changer on defense. Hopefully, the transition to the new defense will be smooth and we will see a big-2nd year breakout from the sophomore Green Bay Packer Lucas Van Ness. Go Pack Go 💚💚💛💛

    Last time we won a SB, Raji and Matthews were key playmakers. Gutes has whiffed, so far, on R1 playmakers on defense on his last four shots-the 3 Georgia guys and LVN. We need all four of these guys to step it up. TT’s picks, Raji and CM3, made plays from their rookie season.

    Sadly, theres lot of doomer takes about LVN in this thread. Guys, most rookies are bad. You would think Packer fans would understand the draft and develop strategy by now but were still doing this every single year.

    • @aaiirssjoy
      @aaiirssjoy 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      They expected him to be Will Anderson who was known to be a polished player coming out. This is a high ceiling guy that could become a 15-20 sacks a year type if he makes it happen overtime. That’s worth the wait over a guy who can only get you 7-10 sacks a year as just an above average rusher that’s not a game breaker. Packers have so much talent too on the roster to allow for a few project players. We just didn’t realize we would be this good so fast after how well Love played.

    Hey during the jordan love talk could you please explain why everyone thinks jordan love play was not good the first 8 games? If you go play by play as a coach player whom ever he played just as good or better but everyone was running bad routes and coach was figuring out plays. Thanks again

    But when do we get value? LVN already has the 10th highest salary of any player on the roster. The Packers' approach may be to take these developmental players, which sounds fine and good....until you remember this is a salary cap league. So frequently with that plan, you end up overpaying for the performance you get out of 1st rd picks the first few years. And if the upside situation happens and they develop into who you hope they can, you end up just signing them to 2nd contracts at roughly market rate. That's Gary in a nutshell, except we didn't even get that exactly, due to the knee injury. Don't get me wrong, love Gary big time. And I'm big on LVN. But you HAVE to acknowledge the salary issues in order to have an evaluation that means anything at all.

    • @aaiirssjoy
      @aaiirssjoy 11 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      We did get Van Ness as a project player in what we thought was a rebuild year which ended up being more of a ‘reload’ year instead with how fast guys stepped up with Love at QB.
      Van Ness has better run stopping traits and discipline in my eyes than Gary did coming by out with similar athletic upside to hopefully reach a high ceiling as a pass rusher. And yes, the run stopping has shown up on film already and he seems like a true motor guy that’s gonna keep getting better who can even play inside on run downs with his leverage ability. I believe he’s going to pay off as he’s already flashing. He’s just really gotta expand his pass rush repertoire and play loose but he was getting to the QB with conviction still.

      Project player. He’s not a Will Anderson type player that comes out polished. His run defending did show up consistently enough while adding in some sacks. He’s just gotta play with more abandon and looseness and that’s gonna take time cause he played so much interior DL at Iowa that plays a more hard nose brand of football at that.

      The only thing Perry lacked was good fortune in the injury department. When healthy, he produced. Was really good in the few playoff games he played in too.

    • @aaiirssjoy
      @aaiirssjoy 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I’d wait on him. He came from Iowa where he played a lot of IDL and played a more hard nose brand of football. That’s why he’s more polished in run defense and it showed in his rookie season. He held the edge and contain really well for a young player.
      The play he made against Atlanta was encouraging - he split two lineman with instant burst off the line while ripping with his arm to stop the run in the backfield. I don’t think Perry really had that kind of burst and twitch. Van Ness just gotta learn to cut it loose more.
