Every time I have to make a trip to the post office, I think of this skit. I always chuckle to myself; the painfully long lines, the hassles of buying the stupid bubble wrap, tape, or correct sized parcel, the one lady who always has an attitude and closes her counter right when it's your turn.....even the awkward shamble that some of the postal workers have.

    • @indiag89
      @indiag89 6 ปีที่แล้ว +21

FerrariCarr whenever I went to the post office in a large town or city it’s so true... I go to one in a small town and it’s so different, the post office lady was always so helpful and there was rarely anybody there. One of the few perks (there’s not many) of small town living.

if only the post office could work like fast food, when its fast of course ;)
people steal tape all the time, its particularly annoying when u see PRIORITY tape on packages that are not PRIORITY, Mailhandler, USPS speaking here, 19 years
      - i work MUCH harder and faster than the zombie window clerks at our post office, i would try to move the line faster than about 12 window clerks that i've seen... its almost this conceit, this entitled federal job that they have no way of losing unless they kill someone, or steal - seen more than a few fired that way!
the post office is polluted badly with corruption, from affirmative action for vets/blax, antiman genderism, to nepotism and simply lowering standards as to testing with no 70lb test anymore for mailhandlers...
i'm giving u thumbs up, as the problem is wide and systemic...

LOL I'll tell you something though being a long time mail carrier. It is really difficult to deal with people flagging us down to go find their packages. Everything is basically in order and we are on a tight schedule. We often then have to dig it out from under and mountain of other packages. It's best to wait until it is delivered to your house. If 5 people come up and ask for this during the day which can happen, it puts you behind by about 1/2 and hour or so which is a significant delay on the street. Just fyi.

I’ll take a government body, accountable to regulation bodies and the public over an anarchistic/corporate centric hellscape any day. Yes, some government institutions are mismanaged, but that’s why you reform them. The irony is that your ability to even make your comment is due to government research grants, infrastructure grants, oversight etc. that would not exist if corporations/individuals had their say. You think you don’t want government “meddling”, what you mean is you don’t want to pay your fair share of taxes/pay your employees a fair wage or provide health benefits and so want to lessen govt oversight.

      Wait, where is the contradiction?
My point is that his statement, which asserts that post-offices "everywhere" are the same, isn't accurate, because there are places where post-offices offer a very good experience (example: Japan). I've had many good experiences in U.S. post-offices as well, so "everywhere" isn't accurate there either.
There are certainly cases where post-offices offer bad service, nobody denies that. The problem arises when people try to generalize their individual experiences and assert that they reflect something _universal_.

19 years at the post office, do u REALLY want the details? affirmative action for vets/blax/women, lowering standards, no more 70lb test, nepotism, lowered morale due to a corporate style of cost cutting that sees contracts go down the hill everytime... its getting blacker, dumber, more women, vets who get extra points... i EARNED my job, 4 year degree and aced the megaexam with no jock points or dark skin or nepotism, etc...
the job is like a dead end, because in some areas u pretty much HAVE to keep it, nothing better as to pay - u r stuck with people u don't want to work with as well... its almost better moving up in life gradually and not watching yourself in stagnation... actually it now takes a full 18 years of work to max out as to your pay getting up to middle class, etc... when i started the max out was 13 years as to the contract...
benefits and pay have been gutted repeatedly, its turning into this scab labor outsourced kind of corporate bottomline mentality... we had a wage freeze for two years once... medical used to be paid at 88%, now dropping closer to 75%, etc...
overall i'ts GREAT because i live in a very poor deep south town with union protections and relative to my previous work record its a BLUE COLLAR GOLD MINE

I've never had much trouble in the southeast, and in small towns the post office staff can be quite nice.
      So perhaps it's regional.
I've seen some extremely bad post offices overseas though - like, stand in line for an hour and be told "oh, we can't ship packages overseas from here. You'll have to go to another city to send this."
