You are right uncle. Being active at an old age is much better than going around in malls able-bodied with mobility scooters 🤦🏻‍♂️

they may be old.but they are reliable lifts that do not breakdown frequently than the new chena crap lifts

According the HDB’s standards perhaps they think they are old since they are approaching the end of HDB’s suggested lifespan of 28 years. But honestly, I think they can last longer than that. Newspaper articles from the past itself said the the lifts they built were meant to last 15 years, but they defied the odds with some old HDB lifts lasting over 40 years, and the Dakota ones for over 58. These just goes to show the built quality of mostly Japanese made lifts. With this I would say 20-25 years old lifts aren’t very old, perhaps fairly old only. It’s hard to believe many lift companies suggest replacing lifts that are 20 years old of age only! I would think unless if the lift is problematic it shouldn’t be replaced until it’s at least 30 years old. Even if at 30 years old and they are still running well, the most they’ll ever need is a modernisation. Maybe they might also possibly think they are old since they are slightly harder to maintain

Even Hong Kong public housing can afford Schindler, KONE and even ThyssenKrupp elevators on some estates. And surprisingly, they don't even use any China brand elevators like iFE, BLT, etc.

There are some elevators which are 100 years old still in service today. They were engineered to last. Even elevators from the 1950's and later are still in use with proper maintenance. While mods have been done i.e. with DC traction machines updating to SCR Drive from the MG sets, and microprocessor controllers, many still retain the original DC machines. Two years ago I visited an historic mansion in the PNW which still has the original Otis winding drum elevator installed in 1914. Semi-automatic operation doors are manually closed, has floor buttons and call buttons each floor

Yes. Some of the older elevator systems have lasted a long time but at times the replacement parts are getting harder to get. In that case elevator systems are having to be "remodeled" possibly with a new drive system as well as upgrading the controller which now days is computerized logic circuitry.

Heard another challenge cited with newer lifts is that they're more likely to be machine room-less, with the motor & electronics moved to between the lift's guide rails at the top of the lift shaft. So to service them the technician has to balance him/herself on top of the lift car, where there's also less room to set down his/her various tools (due to other equipment on top of the lift car e.g. door motor) as compared to in a machine room

@@poteyatocheapp6978 Yeah well I can name plenty of examples, especially in the CBD, but also outside like at Junction 8 tower. Lifts age better than computers etc, 20 years isn't that old.
Heck, One Raffles Place still has their original 1980s lifts and they are only getting modernised this year, after 34 years. And they are still in good condition regardless.
