      @@ThatGuyGabeToo There are many instances where items and elements from the gay scene, or the kink scene or any other scene, lifestyle, culture or religion become commonly used within alternative fashion for their aesthetic value and mostly (if not completely) lose their original meaning when used in the context of alternative fashion. I know the story you refer to, I thought it was hilarious when I first heard it.

      Hi! I just wanted to ask what size you got the chunky chains in to make your necklaces, because I looked at the Michaels' website and can't tell how big they are by mm. I love big chunky collars and necklaces as well and have been wanting bigger chains and clasps for my clumsy hands.

This was such a great guide on how to put together a new wardrobe, how to make unique pieces, and also it’s just really cool to see someone bring new life into basic clothes! I love how your personal style shines through with all the pastels and cute details! As I have been dressing in dark/alternative clothes since forever, I have some tips for people wanting to try it out:
    - Don't be afraid to pair different shades of black. Many thrifted clothes are washed out, but pairing them can really look great - the grunge look never dies. Alternatively: Bleach or dye them
    - build your wardrobe slowly. I gradually have been building my wardrobe for 10 years now. Since black works with everything, just use what you have until you have enough pieces to achieve your desired darkness. Don't rush :)
    - many black shirts with a print on them should not be ironed, since the print will start to crackle!
    - Leggings are amazing. Wear them under ripped jeans when it's cold, wear them with oversized shirts (that now look like tshirt dresses!), Wear them just as a more comfortable and durable substitute to tights.
    - Try to find not only basics, but also weird looking pieces that are interesting to look at. Patched up pants with pops of color, Colorblocking pieces, asymmetrical shirts, dresses that can be layered upon. When thrifting, try weird shit on, i often bought things that I originally did not like, but ended up LOVING, because it just worked with other pieces.
    - Juxtaposition looks SO good. I love to pair business wear like white buttonups with dark punk style.
    - Layering is everything
    - honestly, learn how to repair holes in your shirts and trousers. On black clothes, the stitching won't be visible at all.
    - aaand: Thrift your clothes, Upcycle them, DIY as much as you can. Old clothes last longer, you can repair nice pieces by sewing or patching them up. It looks more interesting and personalized. New stuff from fast fashion brands is often that low quality that you can't even repair it because the fabric is so thin.

    I love your take on darker style, it's so unique and different from the typical whirl/goth we see these days (which is also cute)
    Btw, nail polish is a great paint to use on metal. I use that to cover up jean buttons and studs all the time and it works great! I find that sanding the metal down with a nail file first and finishing with a clear top coat makes it last very long without needing a touch up.

    • @TheStitchess
      @TheStitchess  3 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I always hear about people using nail polish with success but I think the climate here must get too hot or something because whenever I used it growing up eventually the nail polish would turn sticky?

    • @xDeydeyxtartelette
      @xDeydeyxtartelette 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@TheStitchess I know for nails it's better to let each coat dry very long like 30 mins between coats and do super thin layers or it'll for sure get sticky. You can also dip the polished item in ice cold water once it's set, it helps the varnish dry smoother. I think it would work just the same on metal, but I can't speak from experience as I live in Canada where heat is an issue for only 3 months ❄️

    • @dreamer6943
      @dreamer6943 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nail polish itself goes off and becomes sticky and gloopy, once that happens it never really dries properly when you use it and needs to be binned. Not sure if that's what you meant about it getting sticky. Also I heard you can keep your nail polish in the fridge to make it last longer but I haven't tried that.

    I LOVE these androgynous punky, gothy, cute looks you've crafted! I'm working on balancing masc and femme and spooky, preppy, and sweet elements in my outfits and wardrobe, too, so thank you for the inspiration and ideas! Love your wardrobe. :)

    In high school I had a punk blazer from a thrifted red tartan blazer. Last week I started a new one using an air force jacket I found for a few dollars and I am obsessed.

    The purple blazer outfit with the purple gingham pants works so well and I feel like the aesthetic is secretly just Anime Boy

    Thanks for pointing out that personal styles can change! As a former 2000s emo who misses spikes and checks but dresses in femme florals I feel strangely seen haha

    i've been waiting for this video!! I've been dressing in grunge/emoish/alt fashion since i was 10 (and i'm 24 now) lol, but this year i really decided to start building my dream goth wardrobe and I've been having so much fun slowly creating my own unique look. I loved this video so much! i love seeing people branch out into different looks! i also ADORE what you did with that blazer and it's now inspo for this plain black denim jacket I've had for 2 years

    I just did a massive wardrobe cleanout. This is the first time I have really thought about what I like to wear and need in my wadrobe since middle school. My body and taste have changed so much in 10 years. I like bold colors and prints in tops, dresses, and skirts. I prefer neutral bottoms and basic tops. I like to layer a lot. I have been terrible about planning basics in the past. I get not fitting into one style. Some days I want to be very femine, but others I want to look like a 2000s middle school skater boy.
    I'm trying to keep my closet on the small side, pick natural fibers, and resist impulse decisions. I am all into 2nd hand shopping too. I'm not an alternative style person, but your videos are so applicable to anyone building/revamping a wardrobe.

    Thank you! You published it at the perfect moment for me. I want to change my style to more cottagecore/bloomcore/goblincore with dark academia influence and it needs to be elegant, rather minimalist and appropriate for a a mother and corporate environment. Plus I love gothic style and horrors. How can you create a coherent style incorporating at least my favourite influences? Thanks to you now it seems more feasible.

    I have several categories in my wardrobe. My Staples of clothing is a collared shirt with dress pants or jeans and leather shoes. The leather shoes work well with my more Gothic/dark academia outfits as well.
