What a brilliant find, it is so hard to find cars of age in such great condition, you could t have found a better find in this car and lucky it’s away from the sea air , plinths and sills are a great find in such condition and not rusting away.

From looking at the model code on the VIN plate, 8WM35, the black instrument surround and steering wheel and the Belmont door trims, it looks like you have an HX Belmont wagon. This car is EXTREMELY rare! HX Belmonts were extremely rare even when they were new. I have only seen 2 in the 45 years since they were built (3 counting yours!). Because the price of a Belmont was only $200 less than a Kingswood, by 1976 even government fleets had switched to Kingswoods because the resale value was much higher. I would doubt that they sold more than 100 HX Belmont sedans and wagons before the Belmont was dropped in March 1977. When the HZ came out later that year, there was no Belmont, rather there was an A9K option on the Kingswood which deleted content that was standard in the volume selling Kingswood SL. A9K was only available to fleets and basically took over the market niche that the Belmont formerly occupied.
A couple of things that are worth knowing about your car. Firstly, the HJ style grille is correct for the car. Actually, if you look very carefully at the grille and headlamp bezels, and then compare them to an HJ, you will notice that the HJ grille is chrome plated whereas the HX8WM69/35/70/80 grille is finished in a duller silver finish, probably just silver paint. The headlamp bezels are finished in a noticeably darker grey on the HX than on the HJ. How do I know this? As far as I know GM-H never published any photos of or sales literature for the HX Belmont. They did, however, publish pictures and brochures for the 8WM70 and 8WM80 which were sold as Holden Ute and Van, having dropped the Belmont name on utes and vans when the HJ came out. These pictures clearly show the slightly changed HJ style grille and darker headlamp bezels that were fitted only to the base model utes and vans. The Kingswood variants used the new grille from the HX Kingswood sedan/wagon.
The other source of knowledge about the rare and elusive HX Belmont came from a display of Army equipment in a suburban shopping mall in 1976 or 1977. Along with all the military hardware on display was an Army staff car, which happened to be an HX Belmont sedan, the only one I have ever been able to examine up close. So i can confirm from that car that the spec of the HX Belmont closely mirrored the spec of the base model HX commercials (which of course sold in far greater numbers), including the grille, upholstery, instrument panel and steering wheel.
Another thing that sets the HX Belmont apart is the absence of a Belmont badge on the front guard. The more upmarket HX models received new badges with a different font which were shaped to fit the guard at the new position just above the blister in the panel. I would assume that the decision had already been made to drop the Belmont due to poor sales, so tooling up for a new badge made no sense. Instead the only Belmont badge on the car was the old style badge which was placed on the left side of the bootlid or tailgate in line with the badge placement in the more upscale models.
The seats are under seat covers in the video, but I would expect them to be Kingswood seats. Again the low sales did not warrant creating a bucket seat in the Belmont pattern so they just installed Kingswood items while retaining the Belmont door trims if bucket seats were optioned.
The aircon is not a factory unit, could be a dealer fitted accessory or aftermarket. The factory air used a different control panel with 4 fan speeds and more complex control. Video shows a standard heater/demister control panel on the dash to the right of the steering column
Finally, I would emphasize how rare this car is. Especially being a 3300/4 speed car. It could well be a one-off. I would hope that you decide to preserve it in as original a state as possible. For all I know it could be the last HX Belmont wagon in existence.

Thanks for the info Craig. I did guess that the air con was most likely dealer fitted. And I agree the combination of 3.3 and 4 speed is very rare, that's the reason that we went out west to find this one. Cheers.

Make no mistake that Honda is a great pick up. EBay is the place for any parts one may need, and the awesome after market parts one can get cheap for bikes all the way back to the 60s is unreal.

What pickups, I love a Longroof! But that CB100 does my heart in. I bought a new one in NZ for $569 back in 75, I rode it back to school the day I got my licence (at 15 in NZ back then), mine was greeny/blue.
I'd love to know whats happened to them 2 years on.

Great find. Wish I could find one that good. Comments that it's a HX and has HX Owners Manual but that's a HJ grill. What's on the Build Plate? I've got a HZ tonner that I plan to to get back on the road. 70s Holdens are a great shape, though the HQ is my favourite as well as the HT from 68 which I've had many of.

The HJ/HX/HZ grills were all interchangeable. Probably got broken and replaced with whichever grill they could find at the time. Years ago my mate crashed the front of his HJ 1tonner, so we pulled the front off one of the HQs that l had (only took 40 mins) and replaced the whole front in one piece. Basically just unbolt the guards from the body, and the radiator support panel etc from the front chassis, unplug all the wiring, take the bumper off, and lift the whole lot off, guards, inner guards, radiator, radiator support , nosecone with headlights/grill and bonnet in one piece. Had it all fixed in 1 day and repainted the following weekend.👍

Hi Guys, lucked out on your supermint HX kingy, keep the doors, I have a 77 hz supermint prem 308 t400 4 wheel disks original wagon looked similar and was stupid enough to trash dented doors ( pushed by wife to get rid of parts) , they are original and will fit better than any crap rusty other doors you can find now days
Fish oil it now in all the cavities before you let the rust starts once it is out of the shed don't wait.
It isn't original factory air it is dealer fitted underdash like the fact the 8 inch hotwires still have the centres, mine was hotwires with no centres but now 8 inch steelies with stato hub caps and dress rims . thumbs up guys
