    Thanks for the review. I've notice you and many other people often qualify boards for different ride level (e.g. newbie, intermediate, advance) but is there a consensus on how "intermediate" is defined as? To me in order to be qualified as an intermediate, you have some capacity to ride switch as this skill is required for complex jumps in the park. However, if you're a cruiser (and not aiming to do 1080 jump), what is intermediate?

    • @pumpkin1escobar
      @pumpkin1escobar 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      IMO it's just basic control of the board. You're not feeling unstable on it, you don't catch edges carving, you can ride switch okay, you can maneuver it quite well at speed or in tight spaces....

    Your riding style is amazing! Could you help me choose the right size?
    I decided to go for the custom because even if my riding style is more playful I want a board which I can use the next years and grow into it. I mainly drive piste with a lot of freestyle (180/360, side hits, butters). My hight is 172 cm and weight because of working out relatively high with around 80 kg. I consider everything from 150 to 156cm. I know that the shorter ones are easier for butters and spins but would lead to less stability while carving or less pop. Maybe a 154 is the best right in the middle?

    • @MichaelMarvin
      @MichaelMarvin 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've got a Custom 2018/2019 with the Channel System. I haven't had any issues with the EST bindings coming loose in just one day. However, like any other board, you should always go over all your screws each morning before you ride, and have a screwdriver in your car in case something comes loose. If you try to ride a channel system board multiple days without checking it, you might have some trouble with the screws working loose a little. Just the nature of putting more stress on fewer screws. They don't just pop wide open though. The worst I've had happen is my stance slid away from the reference point when I did multiple days and wasn't good about checking my gear. A quick pop down to the shop and they were able to fix things in a few minutes. You're trading a little more maintenance for better board feel.

    • @cratra
      @cratra 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mostly all bindings standard/ReFlex/EST etc have a loctite type of thread seal on the bolts from new. This eventually however wears off the more you remove and replace the bindings over and over again with time ie service/wax/quiver/storage. This is no real problem as you can replace this with a medium strength loctite and all is sweet. Always carry a Burton EST tool or equivalent for emergency service on the mountain. If you are the type of owner that puts their bindings on and leaves them on you will not have any issue at all with this.

    • @stoicthedog
      @stoicthedog 3 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      IMO you can't go wrong with a Custom. Not the "coolest" or most inspired choice these days but i've had one in my quiver since 2001 and they've never let me down. For a sturdy all round resort deck, it just works. Not ideal for technical park work (I'm too old and crap to worry about that anymore) or really deep pow (full old school camber) but for charging piste with the odd park lap and getting just beyond the ropes, it's as close to a one board quiver as I've ever found. (But nothing beats a dedicated pow deck for the days you know you're going knee deep.) Good stable deck that will take a beating. Pairs up well with Burton Cartels or Cartel Xs. The flying V version is more mellow but can feel a bit washy, especially on icy hard pack. Not a problem if you like a loose board but I learned in the 90s when full camber was all you could get. Familiarity keeps me enjoying the carvability of the og. There's also the Kilroy version which is apparently more park focussed but I can't really comment as I've never ridden one. Whatever you go with, good luck and enjoy the season ahead.

      @@JujuBerry No problem, man. That's a good setup...he says in a completely unbiased way knowing that it's exactly the setup he has. Ha ha. I suppose what I'm getting at is that in 25 years of snowboarding, I've had many boards from many brands but I've always had a Custom Camber in the mix and I've never been disappointed by them. Been let down by the quality of others though. Currently running a 3 year old Custom and last season's Lib Tech Orca. While I love the Orca for what it is, it doesn't feel half as well built as the Custom. It just gets on with the job, doesn't complain and never lets me down. About ten years ago, someone told me that you have a pow board for pow days, a soft hybrid camber board for park days and a Custom for the days that you're going to hill with no idea what you're going to get up to. To this day, I can't see a flaw in his logic.

      @@stoicthedog I’m quite the same...had several boards by different brands over the last 2 decades but almost always ride my customs. I coached a few seasons in Tahoe and my 08 custom served as my quiver of 1 for work and play, even in the fluff. I personally love the feel of the snow underfoot with EST bindings, it’s a very organic feel. I did however get to sample a buddy’s Burton Sherlock (very similar to the flight attendant) on a DEEP day and my rear leg thanked me for the break. As fun as the Sherlock was in the powder, the Custom is just better at everything else by a mile (even POW for me personally).
      I had a K2 Zeppelin 52 that delaminated in two seasons and that led to my first custom 56...Which is sitting in my closet with my second Custom 56 and my 58, which I’ll be retiring for a 20 or 21 depending. There’s a reason they’re all over the place. I never wanted to be a Burton guy in my early years for whatever reason but there was no going back once I strapped into a custom. Even with my other boards, I’ll always have a custom.
      Edit: I have a Lib Tech and an older Ride board and the lib doesn’t feel much better built than my old K2 but the ride feels solid...different from the Burton but solid. To Stoic’s point, Burton boards are built to last. You can feel the difference in flex between a full length wood core vs the shorter cored lib tech but that’s more of an issue with camber and less with a rocker.

    Hi, I weigh about 73kg and am about 5”10. I have been riding a ride society 160 which is now about 12 years old so time for a new
    Board. I’m thinking I might be better suited for a smaller board??.. I ride a bit of everything from powder to groomed trails and park and and not sure if I should go 159 or 157. Anyone got any thoughts or guidance they could give me?

    • @MichaelMarvin
      @MichaelMarvin 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@yamz342 It's a board that's really made for bombing down groomers and holding edge on ice, so yes, the edges are going to be catchy if you're trying to use this board for jibbing in the park or you're a more inexperienced rider just learning how to make sharper turns. Catchy is all relative, though. I personally love the good edge hold of the board. If you like groomers and pointing your board down the mountain, this is an excellent board. If you're trying to do trees, deep pow, or park, I'd look at another board.

    I don’t get how people buy directional boards... how does it not kill you to know your board is uneven, and why would you want your switch riding to be worse

    • @rolansereny7565
      @rolansereny7565 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think people buying these boards spend 80% of their time going one direction. Not everyone is riding switch 50/50.
