- Incredible as it may seem in 1948 George F Gorman a 25 year old veteran from WW2 was flying in his P-51 Mustang on a clear evening when he encountered a UFO. Using his skills as a fighter pilot he engaged in a chase. This is a classic UFO sighting that is still unexplained to this day. The UFO was visually sighted by air traffic control and another pilot in a piper cub. Radioing the tower, Gorman said he was going in pursuit of the object. Despite the Mustang being at full power the object was always faster. Instead, he tried cutting the object off with turns to intercept it.
The aerial joust went on for 27 minutes. In a sworn statement Gorman said, “I am convinced that there was definite thought behind its manoeuvres”.

Fantastic. There were several “Dogfights” here in England all monitored on radar in the 1950’s.

This reminds me of a story in the Soviet union during the 50s-60s, when a UFO was over a Russian base and MiG-15s were scrambled. Apparently they were dogfighting for ages until one of the pilots opened fire and hit the object but his plane started to malfunction for no known reason so he bailed out.
That sounds like a great story. Do you have a source for that?
@@YarnhubMystery most "sources" i tried to find are probably unreliable for use sadly. All I know that is concrete is that it was at Kasputin Yar in 1948ish with a MiG-15. Its lucky to find a Russian UFO story with named pilots or details as most if its still locked away after over a decade.
@@monolitwoods The MiG-15 was not put into service until 1949, so this was probably in the 1950s. I can't find anything on the incident.

There is also a story of a UFO encounter in former Yugoslavia in the 1970s, I'll try to find more about it.
The ET managing that drone probably had the coolest story ever to tell, right before getting suspended for breaking observation protocol.

That was hilarious
I heard of a similar thing happening in the UK just after the war. A teacher phoned an airfield to report a UFO nearby. The ATC didn't believe her but a squadron of vampires was landing and they told a pilot to check anyway. The pilot reported that he could see it. At this point, the legendary test pilot Eric Brown, who happend to be in the ATC tower at the time, raced into a waiting vampire and took off. He saw it and shadowed it until it climbed too high - he never got close to it because it was constantly climbing away from him. With little fuel left and no point continuing, he returned to the airfield. I believe he described the UFO in a similar way, too, and he was completely sure that it was not a weather balloon. The UFO was reported by multiple people and airfields all across the south of England that evening, but no pilot got close to it.
If you think about it, the aliens probably saw the radiation from our nuclear bombs and decided to check us out, as these ufo sightings mostly happened just after the war and died down the further you go, as if they came, they saw, then said you guys arent advanced enough to join our club, then left with the ocasional probe checking our progress, they probably saw us as barbaric savages

@@vangard9725 Could've been an F80 or F84 as well, but the F86 would have the best flight performance of the 3 and could easily outmaneuver a P51. At dusk it would be hard to see anything other than the exhaust flames.
I could imagine a test pilot in a 1st gen jet recognizing the P51, and flying with with it as an exercise of the new planes abilities.
And because they were probably top secret they didn't want to announce what they were doing.

My grandpa is a pilot and he said in all his years of flying he saw someting 2 times that couldn't be man made.

My dad had a small Mooney that he used for general aviation from the 70’s-90’s, and according to him, never had any strange incidents. Except for one time when his primary radio stopped working shortly after takeoff, then came back to life again just before landing.
He was flying from the Bahamas to Miami.

I read about this in the alien encounter museum, appropriately enough in Roswell, New Mexico. I went in a skeptic, but there are a lot of similar stories from around that time, which are still unexplained. It's easier to discount it when it's a lone drunkard stumbling home from a bar who sees something, but when there are multiple credible witnesses, it makes it a lot harder to ignore. I don't know what their intentions are, but I do believe that there is other life out there.
Also, not to be pedantic, but at 5:13 it's the wrong flag. It looks like the pattern for the 50 star flag, but in 1948 it would have been the 48 star flag. Unless of course, they were part of the alien conspiracy too. ;)

Why is this channel so criminally underrated?
Everyone talks about how great the animations are, but the script is equally amazing, and the narrator has a perfect voice for this type of story telling, and annunciates his words very well.
I don't know, man, I've followed a lot of channels with 100k or so followers that ended up with millions of followers after a couple of years, I'd say this channel/these channels are due to blow up any day now. I enjoy them JUST as much as I enjoy Simple History, but honestly, I'm starting to grow more fond of this 3d animation. It's much more immersive, I feel.

Ah yes, a balloon that can literally outspeed a p51, do crazy manouvers at extreme speeds, glow a bright light and is even able to makes things radioactive.

My dad is a retired LtCol- he used to fly F-15s for USAF back in the day. When I showed him this video and asked him what he would've done if he encountered such a thing back when he had his wings, he said- "The minute I get close enough for a lock on, I'm unloading all the Sparrows on my pylon and every last round my Vulcan can fire into that bastard and ask questions later.... Not because I'm scared or anything but because whatever it is has the audacity to disrespect me and Rebel (his jet's nickname) by trying to outmaneuver us. Further than that, I'd rather shoot down the bloody bastard so that there's physical evidence than become one of those looney pilots who keep on saying, 'I swear, I saw it with my own eyes.' "😂 But yeah, a lot of guys in the Air Force have had weird sightings like this apparently- many of them shut up about it in fear of being ridiculed and for the few of them who report and even give video evidence from their encounter in flight, they typically get frustrated when the brass who 'carry out investigations' make up some dumb excuse like "it was a weather balloon" when whatever it was CLEARLY wasn't anything short of an advanced craft.
I thought this was going to be about the Mantell incident, which was in 1948, when basically the exact same thing happened - a small round object spotted sitting stationary, then once they approached it it ascended 25,000 feet and the pilot was ordered to give chase, but while climbing, he ran out of oxygen and passed out, then plummeted to the ground on a Kentucky farm, where he died on impact.
Wait so then how do we know what happened if the guy died on impact?

This is not the only P-51 vs. U.F.O. case in history, believe it or not. I'm familiar w/ another such tale out of Kentucky - popularly known as the Mantell U.F.O. Incident. Unfortunately, in that case, one of the three P-51's involved never made it back.
It involved a Captain from the 165th Fighter Squadron, 123rd Fighter Wing, Stanford Field, Kentucky Air National Guard. The ' object' had been spotted by the Tower at Godman Army Airfield, Fort Knox Kentucky. The Mustang ended up crashing and killing the pilot after he attempted to intercept the target.

The Gorman dogfight was a widely publicized UFO incident which took place on October 1, 1948, in the skies over Fargo, North Dakota, United States. United States Air Force (USAF) Captain Edward J. Ruppelt wrote in his bestselling and influential The Report on Unidentified Flying Objects that the "dogfight" was one of three "classic" UFO incidents in 1948 that "proved to [Air Force] intelligence specialists that UFOs were real," along with the Chiles-Whitted UFO encounter and the Mantell UFO incident.[1] However, in 1949 the USAF concluded that the Gorman dogfight had been caused by a lighted weather balloon.
This is one of the wildest stories between pilots and UFOs I've ever heard of.
Speaking of which, did you know that during World War II, pilots of the Allied and Axis powers in Europe and the Pacific encountered strange objects like the one Gorman encountered?
In 1944, these strange objects were nicknamed, Foo Fighters, by allied pilots.
And... the nickname is where the band [Foo Fighters] got their name.

Suggestion:
Just a suggestion for your new channel, i would very much love to see some more interesting and perhaps 'solved' cases like this one. You know we've all heard of mystifying UFO cases, where no explanation was found.
But it would be really interesting to see some cases where an explanation was found, and the video is basically presented like a puzzle or mystery, where we the viewer are left wondering and theorizing potential solutions, and then in the end you give us the surprising or unexpected solution. Perhaps you could even leave in clues and subtle hints in the video as to the true solution, so its kind of like the videos is a puzzle to see who can solve the mystery first.
Either way you decide to do it, i just think that sort of interactive and puzzle like element with mystery, intrigue, and then reward and satisfaction elements would really make things interesting and engaging for your viewers!
Just a thought! Love your videos on all your channels!

This is such a new exciting thing for yarnhub. I love mysteries and documentaries around mysteries and history. You only continue to peak my interest, especially with a story I already had interest in, but not so much knowledge on

This reminds me of an UFO incident that happened in my homeland. 11th of april 1980, in a military base, a su-22 was scrambled and tried to shot down a UFO that was hovering above the base. The pilot chased the ufo but it recieved 0 damage from the 30mm guns, the pilot had to get back to the base because of low fuel

Again, brilliant graphics. Before the story began I thought this was going to be the Mantell incident, detailed by George Adamski in which a P51 chasing a UFO was destroyed. It's many decades since I read either Adamski or another book, "The Warminster Mystery" but didn't someone claim they'd met an ET, who'd given him part of the wrecked plane? Part of the gunsight, from memory.
