  • I was very happy with the Triumph OEM tail tidy, until I saw that Motone had released this.....Everything you'd want from a tail tidy, but with a little extra something!

    Bought the Motone Tail Tidy (from UK site) per your recommendation. Went as smooth as you described. Now I have a place to store my registration and insurance card... in a ziploc bag. Fits perfectly and extending the side markers' wiring was easy enough. This was my first mod to my new Triumph ST. Thanks for the videos. Looks GREAT!!!

    Installed it last week along with the Billet indicators. Super easy instalation, easy cable management due to the formencioned compartment. Overal a tidier and compact rear end for the ST. Loving it!
    Today my bonnie went to get an upgrade on the handlebar (putting the Biltwell Moto one - to hopefully rise the height a bit).
    At the moment on the look for new tyres. Looking for a dual tyre. The one´s Tony uses still don´t have the grooves I needed for a bit of an off road edge. Maybe. I will have to continue looking. That front 18" rim spoils the fun in this regard. :-)

    It's a beautiful tail tidy but the only think i didn't like is the Lucas light. I don't like the shaper of it. It would be perfect for me with the Bates light. I wonder if it's possible to put a Bates light instead of Lucas for this kit?

    Just watched your fitting instructions, great video and seems pretty straight forward. I’m about to order the tail tidy from Motone for my Bonneville T120 and like you I want to keep the OEM LED indicators that came with the bike. I am not very good with electrics so, can you please advise what actionable connectors I need to make my indicators work with the supplied wiring harness? Also, what type of cabling is it you use to extend the wires? And finally, where do I by this stuff from, Halfords? Sorry for the stupid questions, I don’t want to cock up the wiring.....

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks. The motone loom will come with bullet connectors (4mm from memory) so some crimp on ones of those would be what you need. I use standard 1mm thin wall cable (16.5 amp) and a good place to source it is www.autoelectricsupplies.co.uk
      If I had measurements i could always make you up a look with the connectors already on...

      If there was a clear lens in the bottom part I had bought it already. Its a law requirement here in DK that there has to be a white light on the number plate. Other manufactures does it for other bikes, but can't find a tail tidy for my ST that have a clear white light on the number plate.

      Hi Thomas, yes i understand. Motone said they are working on a ‘version 2.0’ of the luca’s style light with a clear section. Don’t know when that will be though. One alternative could be to use some LED number plate bolts like these?.... 2x White LED Motorcycle Car License Plate Light Bolts www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B008U0WBKY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_8bACAbJZYAGJA

Is there a such connecter yet I can purchase somewhere or do I need to begin start crafting my own extension for the indicators?

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi and thanks. Once you’ve cut the wires you will need to keep the connectors if you want to revert back, and they will need soldering or splicing back on. I put mine back to stick before I sold it, and it’s not that tricky. I made my own loom (I do sell extended looms) so that I didn’t need to cut anything from the oriiginal plug! Motone sell one also. However, I have experienced twice to get a fault (engine light comes up in display) indicating brake fault. Two faults on 50 miles.

    • @erikaarnes2649
      @erikaarnes2649 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I found the fault.
      I measured a fault that gives RED wire 10V at all time and 12-14V when brakes applied. The 10V is not enough for the brakelight to activate, but the ECU registrates this.
      ECU dont see 10V as normal state (Should be 0V) and "registrer" that the brakes are applied / pressed at all time and therefore give a motor warning after a while.
      If this is a internal fault like a broken diode or earth failure inside the LED Light I dont know. A new light is needed.

I sent another request 3 days ago for the Front Brackets for Front Turn Signals that are not listed here in America and have not heard back from anyone yet. When I signed on to Motone, USA they sent me an email thanking me for signing up and if I had any questions or needs to reply back useing that email whkch I did. I am going to buy a brass gas cap, black turn signals (4) , front turn signal wiring P/N: DDM011 , and I need P/N: ADT001 Front Turn Signal brackets for LC Bonnevilles. I think the Montone tail tidy for LC Bonnevilles that you installed on your Street Twin is the best out there. I did however purchase the TEC Bike Parts one whjch has a Lucas brake light like yours. Bill Barnes, what are your thoughts on the TEC tail tidy? I am struggling between the Motone, Moto Trio and TEC. The pro for TEC at the moment is that it does fit their luggage rack, I am not sure the other does.

    • @bill_4359
      @bill_4359 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thomas, I like the TEC tidy I bought. the LED light has a grommet that is tight around the wiring harness to keep the water out. The Motone does not. The Motone has the extra aluminum piece that protects the wiring from rocks etc . . . . . So that is a plus for Motone. The Motone is not available in the USA. So I bought the TEC. If it was available I would have considered it. I am buying the billet turn signals from Motone for it. Ride safe and best of luck to you and your family.

    • @mancavemoto
      @mancavemoto  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You could, of course use the standard loom, but it would still mean cutting it and if you ever wanted to return the bike to stock for some reason that then becomes a problem. So using a relatively cheap replacement loom solves that particular problem. If you are using the Motone indicators, then they will just plug & play. I was keeping the Triumph LED ones which have a different plug. The turn signal connectors will work with their loom and the OEM indiators. I make up my own rear harnesses, so can always make them to a custom length. I may well try and source som of the Triumph connectors

    I bought this tail tidy after you recommendation and I was disappointed with the fitting of the product. I found that the holes did not line up on the tail tidy its self . The extra piece to stop the water egress which you did not show the fitting of was a absolute nightmare to fit and had to be cut to fit . I also bought two extensions from motone (£15 )for the indicators as I have LEDs and once assembled one Indicator did not work at all and the other was intermittent. This then prompted me to make my own extensions which then worked .
    I hasn't to add I am not just a dry weather rider and found the water egress in the tail tidy a nightmare . To be fare I have raised this with motone and they have sent two new indicator extensions and apologised .

      Thanks for commenting, and that's both a shame and a surprise. I had no issues with the hole alignment, and I didnt show the 'splash plate' fitting as it literally sat in place and bolted up. (I would say that when you line it up it doesn't fit right back inside the frame, but that's not where it sits when its bolted up). I agree with the water ingress, the folding process in manufacture has to leave a gap. I ran some seam sealer in the corners to stop this. Sounds like Motone have been helpful.

    This is the definitive Motone Tail Tidy installation video. But just a note…the latest design is a bit different (I just purchased/installed it today). The L/R indicator mounts are now provided as a separate bracket, with a subtler grayed-out “Motone” logo. There are 4 provided spacers, which I believe means they should be used to “lower” the unit under the frame attachment points, and the 4 provided bolts are longer than the stock bolts to allow for this. And best of all, the wiring loom is maybe 10cm longer, so you don’t need to extend the wiring from the stock indicators. The only downsides of this kit for me: (1) I needed to precision-crimp the 4 indicator connectors on the loom to convert them from female to male in order to plug into the stock indicators on my Street Twin (which are female), and (2) still NO instructions of any kind.

      @@afiqsapuan7887 Hi Afiq, I converted them to male using needlenose pliers 😮. Just crimp the female connector (on the Motone loom) so it folds in on itself, and then carefully squeeze it and gradually to make it “roll” together. It will stay mostly rounded and will eventually be the thickness required to fit snugly into the Triumph indicator’s female connector. Tighter is better than looser 😜. Repeat 4 times. That’s all it took, no cutting, no soldering, no shrink tubing. Convert the Motone-side connectors because that lets you easily revert back to the original setup if necessary. Good luck 👍
      Edit: I don’t know why Motone makes you do this…it should be well-known by now. Mine is a 2019 Street Twin.

    Any regrets in selling the bike? I'm thinking of buying a 2019 Street Twin and trading my Street Triple R. I'm not fully convinced yet and would appreciate an owners feedback. Cheers.

      Of course I miss it from time to time, but selling it was a financial necessity rather than anything else. I miss the sound and the easy cruising around,!particularly on a nice sunny day.

    I had it but removed it.i did not like the way it is tilted in a slight upward angle. Also, found out that the connectors are different for my 2020 stock indicators . Not plug and play friendly. Waste of my money and time.

    Does your back get covered in road filth having such a tail tidy? I really want one for my street twin but I commute everyday in all weather.
