Awesome video bro. I'm having issues with a lot of moles after my renovation. I would really appreciate some advise to get these guys out of here and stop them from ruining a successful project. Thanks!
I picked up a second-hand manual reel mower to use after overseed and top dress. Doing the front yard this year which is around 6,000 square feet. I run it at the lowest HOC and it’s not a tough job at all as long as I keep up with it mowing every few days. My other mowers are a Timemaster (heavy!) and a Wheel Horse garden tractor from the 1970s (heavy!) so I’ll keep doing this until leaf cleanup time. Nice video, I was trying to decide if I shouldn’t do some touch-up seeding and I think I will.
Nice, sounds like you have a plan. Using the manual reel mower does allow you to get on the new grass earlier without fear of damaging things especially if your main mower is heavy like yours. I wish you the best with your grow-in. Thanks for watching!
Did my aeration yesterday and I'm seeding Tuesday followed by green start, tenacity, rgs then top dressing with a light layer of peatmoss with my landzie. I always let the lawn breath for a couple days after areation.
@@ElevatedLawnscapes I thought it was going to be an overseed but after sumer die off, fixing irrigation issues it turned into a renovation. After I dethatched and scalped I was down to Bare dirt in most of the lawn.
Up in New England, where average daily max temps are now in the high 50s/low 60s, and average lows are in the low 40s; seeded in late September. Did not use fert (but put down a lot of compost and good top soil). Recommendation for when to fertilizer for winter, and what fert to use? Thanks!!
Get your fert down ASAP. The cooler it gets the less fertilizer is taken up into the the plant. You should use a fert with mostly quick release fert based on the requirements from your soil test.
I've been using Fescue in Texas for 5 years, it's getting better and better. Temperatures are just now getting low enough for seeding. What brand do you use and what area are you?
Great video! What is your current watering schedule now and for bare spots that you add more seed to do you water that area frequently or do you leave it on the same schedule as the rest of the yard?
For the overall lawn I am watering once a day or once every other day depending on the weather conditions. For the bare areas, I am hand watering those more frequently to keep them moist. Same as for the initial seeding and germination.
I’m in Indianapolis and I just did my overseeding yesterday 9-25-22. I hope i didn’t wait to long to do it. Temps are between the 70’s for high and upper 40’s -50’s for the low.
Your lawn is on point 👌 looking Good 👍 Our low temperatures will be in the 60's perfect weather for over seeding in Texas! I'm learning a lot from your channel thanks!
Say brah, you should put a lawn stripper kit on your rotary mower 👍🏻 hook up some stripes action on your awesome tttf and another benefit to the stripe kit is you won’t get them rut lines in your grass that them skinny ass wheels put in your lawn that you work so hard on all season ! It will be nice and even ….. consider it fam .✌🏻
I have a stripe kit, 2 of them actually. I do not stripes my lawn when I have young seedlings in the lawn and a lot of ground moisture. Both are a possibility for bad things to happen to the new grass. I allow it to get established well and mature more before I get out there and start rolling over it with a heavy roller just for cosmetics. The time will come for stripes but its not right now.
What would you do with major washout? I put top soil and seed the first week of sept. 3 days later a big storm washed a lot of it away, soil included. Now there are a sorts of bare spots and washed out channels in the dirt. I didnt want to harm the grass that germinated so I've left it and just keep throwing down seed bit I cant seem to keep anything there. All inclines and water keeps flowing. I was going to let what did come up establish and than just fix it next year. It's barenbrug rtf so I was hoping it'll fill in a bit. Is that the right choice?
I would try my best to get the grass established this fall and not waiting until next year. I would recommend using some type of covering over that area to prevent washout like seeding blanke or the fake straw covering . I would also fix the soil wash out and reseed those areas. Make sure that you work the seed into the soil and don't just leave them laying on top of the soil. Those are my recommendations
I'll try to fix the larger wash outs. I just placed some seed in water and want to try the pre germination method. Maybe it'll give me a better chance of keeping seed on the ground. Its so frustrating and disheartening when days of money and labor get washed away. I'm all out of the barenbrug though and can't really swing another bag so I'm stuck using a local sod farms fescue mix. I just bought a garden weasel too so ill use that to get everything incorporated. I'll have to definitely fix some lumpiness though through out next year
What’s up Cam, what do you suggest for seed that hasn’t germinated from proper moisture? I put down seed 9/1 and I got a few areas in the yard that my irrigation either does not cover or provide enough water with each cycle. We’ve had 1 day of rain since I put the seed down and I see we have 3 days of rain in this weeks forecast. Do the seeds in those areas still have a chance to germinate or should I put a little more down before this rain?
What seed are you using, Fescue, Rye or KBG? If you are questioning if you have good coverage, I would address that concern first and wait to see what the rain does. Then reseed those areas at the 21ish day mark if you still don't have germination.
@@ElevatedLawnscapes it’s Pete’s GCI Cool Blue with the MVS TTF cultivars & 1 cultivar KBG, think he had a 85/15 mix. And it’s more my coverage is inconsistent, it’s gonna require replacing a head or two because the rotation adjustment doesn’t work. At this point in my overseed tho I don’t want to dig out a head and disrupt the seedlings that have germinated around that head. So I’m content to ride it out and hope the rain gets me the germination I need. But I want to know if the seeds that’s already out there still have a chance to germinate from some decent rainfall after having inconsistent/inadequate moisture.
came to this video because i ran into a problem. i started my fall overseed to early(august 15th) i believe because i didnt get nearly as much germination as i thought i would and the thin areas has been covered by spurge. what would you do in my situation? if i spray speedzone and tenacity to kill off the weeds that decided to pop up i have to wait two weeks before seeding which would land me on october 6th before i could put down seed and the temp in western maryland is gonna be in the sixtys by then or should i mow low and dethach then go ahead and seed now?
Yeah, August 15th was very early and dry for a overseeding. I would mow low get as much of the spurge out as possible and seed. You could spray tenacity at seeding for those areas.
Don't have them 🤷🏾♂️. Im not the person to ask about that, I don't have dogs for that reason. People say water down their pee spots immediately and that helps with the preventing dead spots.
I like the rotors sprinklers in the backyard- are they hooked up the same way as the front that you have the Rotary ones? My back is like 3500 Sq Ft and would have to run 4 in the mulch bed in the front part of my back yard and 4 in back part of my back yard if was to use all Rotary ones but see u do it in the middle of the yard with rotors-
They are all connected to the same controller so I can control the front and the back with the same app. The back is actually in-ground irrigation that i did 3-4 years ago so it is a little different than the front.
@@ElevatedLawnscapes Gotcha- I wasn't sure if u had it hooked up like the front you showed in a video of yours- I have tried over 20 diff sprinklers this fall- best one so far is the Gilmour Pattern master- but sick of moving it 5 diff times for each zone with 2 in each zone- was going to do what you did in your front yard all around my house- think ill need like 18-20 units- been overseeding in the Fall for the past 3 years and always hand watering it 3 times a day- need a better solution hahaha- next year just hit it hard with fert n irrigation- thanks for getting back 2 me- keep up the excellent job and much love for the hard work u do..

I’ve got a question. I just did a Reno last month on the front yard with gci tttf and it was a huge success. The only problem is that it looks too good and now I’m regretting not doing the backyard. Would I still have time to spray gly and wait two weeks and renovate the back or am I too late in the season? Central ky.
It depends on when your temps really drop and stay low consistently. You need a solid 30 days after germination at a minimum for the grass to establish. You don't want frost and freezes during that time if possible. Im not sure when your first frost date is but that can be a date to go off even though the grass will keep growing after that first frost.
