Interesting fact, Shōji Kawamori was a fan of Gundam, and did the mecha designs for Armored Core, along with Macross. He also designed the GP01 and GP02 from Stardust Memory. It's a shame that Mamoru Ito never worked on Gundam because Gaia Gear's designs are pretty sick. On that note, it's a shame that Bandai hasn't been able to collaborate on a gunpla line for Gaia Gear.

12:36 You probably already figured it out by now, but the designer for HF is Yasuhiro Moriki. The modern designs for Gustav and Messer were done by Fujita Kazumi though.
Victory Gundam is the last series of the Universal Century and it takes place in U.C. 0153 and Gaia Gear takes place in U.C. 0203 but the Zi Zeon Organization seems to be formed in U.C. 0155, which is 2 years after Victory Gundam, which means it can still be officially part of the Universal Century timeline if Sunrise/Bandai lets it. They can just say that after the Zanscare Empire failed their master plan in Victory Gundam, that the Earth decided to have anti-spacenoid policies like it did in Gaia Gear and the whole Gaia Gear can just take place. The Zi Zeon could be remnants/descendents of multiple spacenoids such as Neo Zeon (those who didn't join the Federation) after Unicorn, the remnants of the old Crossbone Vangard that didn't follow Cecily, and Zanscare Empire. I mean they already made a real Char Clone called Full Frontal and that failed Joker like clone Zoltan Akkanen, what would stop them from making a full fledged clone especially with advances in technology past U.C 155? And the shift from Mobile Suits to Man Machines could be because of time or maybe because some other major development company decides to bring out their own mecha that was popularized by their technological advancements and people just decided to adopt those over mobile suits or maybe there could be some other reason. Otherwise Sunrise/Bandai can take the easy way out and retcon the name man machines back to mobile suits to call the series Mobile Suit Gaia Gear which would be technically more marketable and probably gain better profits. The original and Refined Zorin Soul looks like a heavily modded Sazabi anyways so it might be better to be called a mobile suit and the original Zorin Soul probably existed during Char's Counterattack so mobile suit makes more sense. They can also refine the man machines a little bit so it would be slightly closer to what U.C. and Gundam fans are used to and be easier to animate and produce model kits for. Since Gaia Gear has five volumes, Sunrise/Bandai could make it into a 5 OVA series that are each an hour long like Unicorn.

I dunno I’ve always liked the Gaia Gear’s design and overall concept with the sheer amount of modular weapons and options it has. It’s like a midway meeting point between a Mobile Suit and a Macross Valkyrie. It’s a busy design but I don’t think it’s repugnantly so, it has kind of a cool sleek but “alien” look to it so it’s somewhat familiar but reflects the much further future point in the UC calendar it takes place in. Generally too from what I’ve seen of Gaia Gear over the years that’s what I’ve kind of dug about it. The pretty stunning design work around building GG’s world building wasn’t afraid to get a bit out there and do things differently especially in terms of its tech. Even the GG’s design kinda reflects this, because while technically it isn’t a Gundam per se, it has many of the design cues of one as if to reflect that design elements that make a Gundam have become more subtle as so much time has gone by. (Which, looking at it closely, actually reminds me vaguely a bit more of Delta Gundam than Zeta, which would be a neat callback if intentional considering the pilot) At least at a glance it seemed to be a story very much interested in expanding the hard sci fi elements of the UC world.
