    Interesting to see how many people are doing something similar to me. I have a 318iS E36, came with the twin cam M42B18, but it was also anemic. After the bolts snapped in my head (twice) during a thermostat replacement, I cut my losses and put in a 2JZ. Finishing up the wiring now

      I’ve got a 318 as well and currently looking to swap it, how difficult was the wiring and what transmission did you put in it to bolt up to that 2j?

    • @versa_media
      @versa_media 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Slammedrc Swap still isn't done yet, buuut. I used the stock Getrag 250G with the collins performance adapter plate. stock M3 E36 clutch and pressure plate. Wiring was difficult for me because I've never done it. The project is on hold for now since I'm not going to use the stock 2JZ harness anymore, I'm going to use the Haltech Nexus R3 with the Haltech Universal harness

    We just bought a rusty 330i for 2200e. Came with 2 sets of pretty nice wheels and tires, close to 1000e in value. So essentially we paid 1200 for 330i donor car. The interior and other stuff are getting sold as well, hope to make more of our money back.
    The body is terrible all around, but the engine has been well maintained. Service history shows vanos refurbishment, DISA replaced, etc. Clear oil and doesn't seem to lose oil, not by much from what I can tell. Power is definitely all there. It's a big advantage to be able to test drive your new engine for a while before installing it to the actual project car.
    We are now looking for an E36 to drop the engine into. Just need to find one without the brown salad bottom, which might be hard here in Finland.

    We have the iron block M52's (Canada) here and there are still good scrap 328's and 528's to be found for rebuilds. Nothing great for doing a direct swap with no work but most buying this engine are doing a M52B30 with the M54B30 Crank. Effectively a US S50 once its back from the machine shop. ECU tuning can be done with RomRaider for free.

    It must suck having no room for availability for the 6 cylinder models. I got my 328is for 2000 USD and swapped a ZF gearbox in it myself in a few days for around another 1200. At least you guys have the better M3!

      Wasted money on a zf u mean...been running the getrag on my 328 for 3 years now without a single issue, and if/when it goes ill dump another without the zf tax. Unless ur ACTUALLY planning to boost(I'm talking ACTUALLY doing it,not a 19yr olds car dream) the zf is a waste of money. ESP when u add in the driveshaft and the fact there a 99% chance the detents will need changed(which is not a job worth risking doing on ur own...not with the zf tax)

    If ur lookin for a US parts source hit me up. We have TONS of parts. Also the zf swap is totally unnecessary unless ur planning to boost it. My 328 LOVES it's getrag that doesn't need the detents done on

    Did you have to do anything with the vehicles speed signal from the abs sensor? I'm trying to do the same swap(obd1 chassis obd2 engine) and that's the only part where I'm stumped.

    Dude, i thought you would say 10000 or so €, but 2700€ pretty cheap for an engine swap. But youre right, you just should have bought an e36 with the engine you desired.
    I can understand you, because im also in an engine swap proces. Did it before, it worked, it was fairly cheap, but had to remove the whole swap, because the chassis was to rusty and put it into another car/ same chassis
    And what have i done, becuase im a mechanic? I rebuilt the engine. The plan was OEM rebuild, but i ended up stuffing forged pistons, rods, improved oilpump and a dozen other stuffs, bigger turbos, an intake plenum for 1500€ etc. At the end i could have bought another decent car for the money i spent on the engine improvement🙈

    • @GARAGEOSHI
      @GARAGEOSHI  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2700€ is double than what i was told it would cost. I just wanted to upload this video for other fools that are planning to do this for the first time, just like me. I guess others can compare their story to mine too.

    In america we swap e36 motors into e39s. I have a few videos of my turbo s52b32 e39 touring. I spent more than 10x the money. It does make over 600 to the tire.

    • @GARAGEOSHI
      @GARAGEOSHI  ปีที่แล้ว

      LOL, we literally do the opposite, because all the E36 engines are dead. But, yeah. Turbo S52 would cost me 10x more too.

    Thanks for the insights, I'm planning on swapping a m52b28 for my m50b20.
    What do you think about the power jump from a 1.8 to a 2.8?

    • @GARAGEOSHI
      @GARAGEOSHI  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You cannot compare the two, it's a completely different car. M52B28 pulls in fifth gear, on highway, harder than M40B18 in first 😂
      You might not notice as much of a difference between M50B20 and M52B28 at first though, because M50B20 pulls relatively well on first and second. The difference will be that M52B28 will keep pulling all the way to 5th.

    yes used cost the same but you buy a used 328 in this case you put a lot off new parts, so in that way was cheaper.

    Hey man I’m doing the same exact swap except into 320i .. you kept e39 exhaust manifold when swapping exhaust ? Also you only changed oil pan? Did the oil pump remain from e39?
    Thanks in advance

      Well . The point is in my country we have an inflation rate of 120 percent monthly. I just was thinking about it. I have an e 36 which is originally a m42 whit an automatic transmission. And I have to ask for any kind of options. M20 engine and transmissions are available here . I’m restoring also an old e12 1981 . A collector here said same as you said . M50 engine are the best. I give a tip search for engines in Malaga spain or in Madrid . Have a great day! Regards from Argentina.
