  • We wanted the modern look of an upholstered headboard in our owner's suite bedroom. We also wanted the easy installation of self-adhesive upholstered wall panels. But we live in Texas and have textured walls so the self-adhesive won't stick to the wall. Through trial and error, we learned a technique that worked for us. We will show you how to install a peel-and-stick headboard on a textured wall. We aren't professional DIYers, so if you have an even easier technique, please share it in the comments. We may try this again in the guest bedroom.
We used these upholstered headboard wall panels from Art3d in Black.

I never knew there's such a thing! Peel and stick headboard ❤ Wonderful. I think I know what I'm gonna do for a split king bed!

Hi there and thanks for commenting! FYI - After we did this video, a viewer asked if any of the panels came off the wall. The velcro is very strong so once you stick it together, that won't come apart, but I noticed that for some of the panels, the adhesive doesn't stick well to the silvery backing of the panel. I don't know if I got a bad box, but on some of mine, the panels loosened and fell off, but the velcro was still stuck together on the wall! LOL! We used double sided nano tape to stick the velcro back onto the back of the panel, and on a few I used gorilla glue just to see what happened. It may seem weird to use gorilla glue to stick something together that is already sticky, but the velcro never fell off the back of the panels again!

I didn't have much $ when I moved into my apartment so I didn't buy a headboard for my bed. I didn't know it would make the wall behind dirty. I just never thought about it. Now I need to have a headboard but when I leave I need to be able to remove it... can you remove this or does it ruin the wall? I can't afford to pay for them to fix a ruined wall lol. thanks

Hi there! Because we have textured walls, and we knew the adhesive wouldn’t stick well to our walls, we screwed the velcro to our walls so I know we would have to at least repair those holes. I’m not sure if the adhesive would not damage the wall if we were able to stick it directly on the wall. Sometimes products come off just fine, but after being stuck for some time, it may take your paint and drywall off. I have successfully used some peel and stick wallpaper in an apartment and it came off without damaging the wall. Maybe you can test out this product or some peel and stick wallpapers on a wall where you won’t see it, like the inside of a closet. I am sure you will find something that works with minimal damage! 😊

How is the headboard holding up? Did any of the panels fall? If so, did you just reattach and it was fine or did you have to find another solution to reattach them to the wall?

Hi there! I am so glad you asked. I was thinking about doing a follow up video about lessons learned. The majority of the panels have stayed up there and never came off. However, some did fall off, and in an unexpected way. The adhesive that sticks the velcro strip to the shiny material on the back of the individual panel loosened and then the panel would fall off, only the panel. The velcro strip was still stuck up to the wall. The velcro is very strong, so that velcro isn't coming apart unless you pull really hard. The first time one came off, we just stuck it right back up there because the adhesive still felt very sticky, and it seemed fine. However, a few weeks later, the same ones came back off. We used double sided nano tape that we had left over from other projects, and used that to stick the velcro strip to the back of the panel and so far that has not come off. We think that we might have received a bad batch when we ordered them, because we had to order a few boxes to do the project and only some of them have had this issue - and we think it is sensitive to temperature because they fell on days when the room was was warmer. If those same ones come off again, we might have to do something else. Thank you for watching and asking! Have a blessed week!
