It's probably the same old thing I read about 30 years ago, and I am still seeing it peddled today. If you think it will help then go for it, but, in my humble opinion, you don't really need writing advice. I am pretty sure Charles Dickens, Emily Bronte and George Orwell didn't take a writing course. Just write.
Getting on social media from the jump is soooo true! 👏🏾 Nearly all of the indie authors I follow tend to show screenshots of the rank or sales whenever a post or video goes viral online 👌🏽 Not only does it sell books, but just sharing snippets of your world, characters and writing style draws people in. That's one of the reasons I started my socials this year! 🥰 I'm still struggling to build my writing habit, but these tips are great as usual! ❤
It used to be that social media didn’t really sell books, but that’s massively shifted the last few years!! And well done on everything you’re doing ❤️
This is such helpful and practical advice. Also Reedsy's course sounds fantastic! I can't do this next one but I see there's another starting end of October that I might try to join. Question about social media...do you think that it matters the specific form of social media? I've seen people say Instagram is the only way to go and others say Instagram isn't all that great for authors. One of the reasons I started my BookTube was to start creating an online presence for myself and my writing, but I've been debating Instagram as well.
I think every kind of social CAN sell books, but you have to go ALL IN if you’re going to move the needle, so it’s important to choose one you like. I like TH-cam and TikTok, so that’s what I focus on!
Congrats on the sponsorship!!!! Love the recomendations!!!
Thank you!!
