Trump, Zelensky, Putin: The Deal-Making is On.

  • In this edition of Issues of Contemporary Politics with Dr. Brovkin, I discus the opening phase of the deal-making between Presidents Trump, Zelensky and Putin. Is there a contradiction between a call for NATO to increase defense spending and a call to Putin to make a deal? Is a method of threats of sanctions going to move Putin to deal? I also discuss Mr. Arestovich's criticism of Zelensky and some of his revelations of corruption in Ukraine.
    Dr. Brovkin is an American historian, former Harvard Professor of Soviet History, the author of several books on Russian History, all available on Amazon. His latest book: From Vladimir Lenin to Vladimir Putin: Russia in Search of Its Identity (London: Routledge 2023) is available from Barbes and Noble, Amazon, and Routledge.com

      Evidently, they are following the dictates of their master puppeteer (USA).
      While going around the world destroying nations and making money for a few within their military-industrial complex, the country deteriorates.
      We hear that American subways are infested with homeless drug addicts
      Tucker Carlson warned people when he took a tour of Russia last year. Since then, more people have said the same, comparing Russia cities and China cities with those of Germany and the US.
      Sad but the British empire went through the same.
      The British empire morped into the American empire and then died. Now, the American empire is on its way

    America still considers itself a colossus that rules the world and always negotiates from a position of strength. It is so blinded by its power and strength that it doesn’t notice the changes taking place in the world and the new powers with which it is much better to talk on friendly terms and look for positive solutions than to scare,threaten,demand,punish and fight,which can end tragically for the entire world. It doesn’t learn anything from making the same mistakes over and over again. We need to look for friends,not create enemies.This builds the world,makes it better and more beautiful. As an old-time Soviet Studies degree holder and Yale Grad political science student in former U.S. National Security Agency Director's, Lt. Gen. General Willian Odom, ret., 1990 Soviet Military Policy class, I couldn't agree more with your analysis of the present situation. The very confused incoming U.S. "Ukraine War" foreign policy makers, like the outgoing ones, are still nowhere near ready to come to terms with the reality on the ground. Additionally, idiotic unforced comments like: "60 million killed in USSR (instead of 27 million in the USSR and 60 million for the entire world) during WWII"; "referring to Spain as a BRICS nation"; and, Trump's obvious ignorance about the fact that 75-80 percent of the great German Wehrmacht was defeated, not by the West, but by the Soviets on the Eastern Front, all do little to instill confidence that the Russians are now finally going to be negotiating with well-informed, competent, realistic "balance of power-oriented" American dealmakers in matters of E. European geopolitics.

I read the art of the deal some time ago and I can say that Trump doesn't play a game without an ace up his sleave, or without carefully wirking out his plan. He is very good at managing risk. He always keeps people in doubt of what he is going to do and how he is going to do it. That's why it's so strange to me. People used to say that he would ebd the war in Ukraine in a day, and asszmed that he will cut off aid to Ukraine. which hasn't happened. As far as I can see, he also wants the US to be the main arbiter of peace and that Russia signs peace on US terms, not the ones that Russia fought for. So if I had to guess, I would say that Trump promised something to Zelensky in return for him agreeing to peace negotiations. Maybe Trump wants to give tze Dinbass to Russia as a token victory, but he is also going to tell Putin to lower his BRICS ambitions, or tell him to stop supplying Europe to India so that Europe only has one option to get oil and gas from, which is a lot more dangerous than the previous administration, because Trump is actually competent in escalating these things if necessary. For example, US has put sanctuons on the serbian oil company NIS for working with russian Gazprom. There are many avenues of approach to these negotiations between Russia and USA.
      All the best to you Dr. Brovkin

The total so far is well over several billion dollars worth and more than that these are imports that the USA relies upon for its nuclear power plants, and for running its freight across the country and without which the USA economy would suffer significantly as well as the people of the USA.

    I actually think Russia has the better desire/hope. It’s more fair and balanced to have every nation have a seat at the table rather than some banding together into an exclusive group which takes a position of authoritarian dominance by which they pit nations against each other and pressure other nations to bend to their global ideal (which is equally flawed but in different ways).
    If Russia is after what they say they’re after, which I have no reason to believe they aren’t, then I more apt to stand with Russia. In the past couple months, I’ve taken time to learn about Russian history and, wow. Now I’m seeing how the USA can actually learn a lot from her and her people.

    Trump wants the Saudis to help him keep prices low. There's a good chance at least some of it will happen. It will hit global producers, including Saudis, but might put real pressure on Russia. Even one year of such price depression could be significant. This is just one possibility, and if Saudis go along, it is a matter of 3-4 months to make effective, not year or two.

    • @vladimirbrovkin4052
      @vladimirbrovkin4052  14 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      No, the fact is that the US oil companies CANNOT produce fracking oil with profit if the price falls below 60$ a barrel. Russia can make profit if it is more than 20$ a barrel.

    • @EliHaNavi
      @EliHaNavi 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@vladimirbrovkin4052 The figure of business profitability for US fracking that I have is roughly $40 to $50/barrel. Meaning: the US oil extracting businesses will be at least breaking even at this price. This is a figure lower than yours. On the other hand, your figure of $20/barrel of Russian oil is just a say-so, unless you can support it. Here I'm quoting BNE Intellinews:
      "The Institute of International Finance (IIF) has forecast a decrease in Russia’s fiscal breakeven oil price (the amount to balance the external current account) to $77 per barrel by 2025, supported by a recovery in oil and gas revenues. At the same time, the external breakeven oil price (the amount to balance budget spending for extraction), currently at $41 per barrel, is the second lowest among major hydrocarbon exporters."
      In other words, Russia needs oil to be above $75/barrel, in order to balance its fiscal budget. Furthermore, you and I know that inflation in Russia is quite bad right now and labor force shortages have begun to affect people living outside Moscow. This situation is not good for long term, albeit tolerable in the short-term.
      Most importantly, you did not address my actual argument: Trump is trying to pressure Muhammad bin Salman to lower Saudi oil price. If the Saudis comply, neither American fracking nor opening up of Alaska is urgently needed for Trump to be able to effectively pressure Putin economically.
