  • This is a practice session and not a performance so skip this if you expect a perfect cover version. I am learning this on my Bellcordion from a tutorial by Accordion Tutor here on TH-cam, and the tutorial is a good one.
I work on (and am still working on) getting the bass side right while playing the tune correctly and without error and on the phrasing - and make plenty of mistakes as I do. I am just beginning to feel slightly more familiar with the accordion, and still fumble at the notes from time to time despite knowing what they are - but I can see some progress when I practice on songs I really know well. So it was fun to practice even if I had to repeat the tune more times than I thought.
As it is a fairly simple song and one I realize I knew from memory (or at least the tune itself if not the chords for it) I found it easy to learn, but the practice to play it properly has to be done. Practice is often quite monotonous but is absolutely necessary as you learn, even more so when the instrument you're learning on is one you don't yet have but a beginner level of skill playing.
The song was adapted and given new lyrics for the 1968 version which was from Apple Records...Mary Hopkins did a lovely job on the song... and this was one of the records I bought at the store back in the day. With its origin a Russian song and it's somewhat wistful minor chords it's a good one for accordion.

Again, improving! I think your channel will surpass mine and Sue's. Damn you!

Thanks Wes, and...maybe. But then again, some may use mine as sleeping aid as practice is monotonous enough to put one to sleep

@@kathharper I think its cool that you are learning in real time and recording it. Seems inspirational to people wanting to learn!

Thanks Wes... I would hope folks at least go "well, *I* could play better than that" which I think is a form of inspiration 😄

@@kathharper That's the guitar player view of everything..."that was ok, but I can do better".

LOL - it's true of visual artists too.
