  • Though overshadowed by the huge Roosevelt Field Mall a few miles away, and having lost its Macy's, this mall seems to be holding its own without too many vacancies. It has Ikea and Target as anchors, multiplex movie theaters on the second floor, and many eateries on the exterior and out parcels.
Filmed Tuesday, February 7, at about 10:30 in the morning before most stores were open.

I grew up in this mall. I no longer live in New York but same it breaks my heart to see how much it's fallen. I remember when this place was better then the Roosevelt field mall. It sucks that they have just let it get to this point. So many empty stores. It's just a shell of its former self but I still miss it and will watch videos on it every year as a tradition. Thanks for posting this. It made me really nostalgic and really enjoy all my memories at this mall. I still remember it like yesterday when it was bustlin with amazing stores....

Thanks you for watching. The mall has declined, but because it has Target, Round 1 and - especially - Ikea it should be here to stay.

I've always loved Broadway. I really hope it powers through unlike Sunrise Mall where I worked for years. That was rough to see my old mall die.

It has new ownership and now it’s being converted into a strip mall. They’re planning to tear most of it down

The steel girders that support the mall structure are visible once again. They were visible in the early 1980's, painted white and some had cigarette disposal metal cans on them. These steel girders were covered over in tilework and sheetrock overlay in the major late 1980's renovation. Am I right?

Wow, the skylights make this the brightest mall I’ve ever seen. With so many people online shopping it’s hard for the mall’s to compete.

Being less than five miles from a thriving megamall doesn't help, but at least this mall has the Ikea.

@@R32R38it has all my essentials packed in one convenient location. Target, IKEA, Panera, Blink fitness, Showcase, Round1, and food court. It’s a shame it won’t be here for much longer

It's really not bad at all, considering it's five miles from a gigantic mall, and it has Ikea.

That mall doesn't look like it's former self. Changed so much since i was young

Yes it has changed a lot, but at least it's holding its own.

The only reason Broadway is not a dead mall just yet is because of the presence of Ikea as its main anchor. The mall's primary tenant when it first opened back in 1956 as an open air center was Gertz, which had its flagship store there. The Gertz store was converted to Stern's in 1982 and then to Macy's in 2001. The closure of the Gertz flagship store was planned for the late 2010s, but asbestos abatement inside the property caused the closure to be delayed. The store permanently closed in early March 2020 just a few days before the COVID-19 pandemic was declared.

I live here in Hicksville that means you might live close to me. I’m not really a fan because I never watched the videos. This is the only first video that I watched from your TH-cam channel but yeah, this is my mall there’s a round one of food court movie theater. It’s a fun place.

So many malls today are dead, or nearly so, but this one is holding on pretty well. Losing Macy's was a setback but not a fatal one.

Thanks! I wish I had been able to go a couple hours later, to get a better idea of what business it does, but this will have to do for now.

The only places that are keeping this mall going are IKEA, Round 1, Target, and Kong Dog.

Ikea may be of somewhat limited help, as most people who go to Ikea probably don't visit the rest of the mall. They go just to Ikea.
