Brilliant discussion and exploration of issues. My wife and I are currently reading -- and greatly enjoying -- Yoram Hazony's book on the Hebrew Scriptures and today I've purchased Dr Hazony's book on Israel.
25:00 Hope, Freedom and Dignity: Essential Philosophy of the Hebrew Bible. (Lord Rabbi Sacks) 29:50 Yoram Hazonys on the idea of partnership between God and man 53:50 The open character of the bible. Male and Female. Great idea of equality in first chapters of the Bible
1:03:26 is some powerful interpretation regarding the relationship to women as "individual" being a prerequisite for the relationship to G-d as "individual."
What lots of people (even pastors) don't (yet) understand. God created us according to His own image and likeness. Godly. Mankind/the first Adam fell. The image of God in man got lost. That's why there is all this predicament on earth (selfishness, greed, lust, wars, sicknesses, death, etc). We are all born into that mess. For the fall of man a perfect atoning sacrifice had to be made.... that is what God did in Christ. With His own once and for all perefect sacrifice, He paid the debt for the fall of man for us, so we can be indwelled by His Spirit again and finally receive the divine life of the ages back, the first Adam let got of in the fall of man. An amazing act of grace and love by our creator. That is what you see happening in Christ's first disciples. They too healed all and walked in unselfish love. And yes.... that is still avaible today. The holy blood is in place, the Holy Spirit is here to give us understanding, power and transform us back to origin. Not to be debated about, but to be embraced and be-come. So: The Kingdom of God already came. Through Christ, in Spiritform, in those that understand. Hence the divine healing miracles we experience. God manifested in Christ to give us back the divine life mankind lost in the fall of Adam. Christ, the exact image of the invisible God. The image we were created after in Gen 1. The image we lost in the fall of man. The image that can be freely restored by Christ's blood and Holy Spirit working IN us. What a plan. What a solution. What a love. What a God. Jesus is amazing. It is the ultimate conclusion of the word and plan of God. God came full circle. He Himself stooped down from glory to restore us back to original created value: Christlikeness. Walking in divine healing power and unselfish love. Jesus, born of the Spirit of God, filled with the spirit of God. The "Son" of God, the incarnated word, God in the flesh. For three years He healed all, raised the dead, casted out demons, controlled nature, spoke pure divine truth. He said: "Follow Me. If you see Me, you see the Father. The Father and I are one. The glory I have IN My Father, I give to you. It pleases the Father to give you His Kingdom/Holy Spirit/divine nature. I will send Holy Spirit, the same as Me, He will be IN you, guide you into truth and give you explosive power. The same miracles i do, you will do too, because you will understand that the Father is IN Me and I am IN you. Freely I give you My Kingdom/Holy Spirit/divine nature, heal the sick, raise the dead, cast out demons, freely I give, freely share" Etc, etc, etc. I have experienced thousands of beautifull healing miracles through the power of Holy Spirit IN me already. Broken bones, cancers, covid, all kinds of infirmities healed in seconds. Demons manifesting and casted out by a simple "get out, in Jesus name". Jesus. De name above all names. In Him all power and wisdom is sourced and.... He calls us one with Him. God in man and man in God again. C'mon Jesus!! So.... again: God stooped down IN Christ to restore us back to Gen 1:27 were He said: "Let us make man according to our image and likeness and let them have authority.....": walk as Christ. Christ, the exact image of the invisible God. The image we were created after and being restored to by His atoning blood for the fall of man and indwelling Holy Spirit. You are free to receive this original divine life of the ages by Holy Spirit of Christ/God. Ask Him to guide you into truth. Read the Gospel of John and fall in love with your creator. You are not made for the fall of man and its effects, but for the image/glory of God and to walk like Christ. Holy Spirit is the guide and transforming power that will get you there. Amazing grace. A big leap in faith can be made when we start realizing we are already IN Christ, IN the last Adam. Free from the fall! Loved! Growing into awareness of our new (yet old) godly identity. Changing by Holy Spirit. The most fullfilled life ever. Paul healed all on Malta. He understood and wrote: "As in the first Adam ALL died (lost the divine nature), so also ALL were made alive IN Christ to walk in Zoë (= divine life) again". "IN Christ (the last Adam) we are co-cruisified (dead to the fall and its effects), co-raised (justified/made righteousness, holy, blameless, above reproach), co-seated (one with Him)" "The fullness of deity dwells in Christ and YOU HAVE BEEN MADE COMPLETE IN HIM, who is the head of every principality and power". So.... thank you Jesus! Thank you for redeeming me from the fall of man. Thank you for your Holy Spirit that makes this new (yet old) divine life come alive in me. You are amazing! In the shadow of Peter the sick healed... He understood too and wrote: "By Gods power (Holy Spirit) and knowing Christ, we have become partakers of the divine nature and have escaped the fall of man". The divine life of the ages has been returned to us by Jesus once and for all perfect atoning sacrifice for the debt of the fall of man and His indwelling Holy Spirit in us. Jesus/God is amazing!!! Ask Him to give you revelation and change you to the way it was before the fall of man: Christlikeness. He will do so. For it is written: "the Spirit brings forth after His own kind". "I have come to give you Zoë (divine life) in abundance...."
I'm ready for a new stream of orthodoxy that holds science, humanism and philosophy in as high regard as it is by the likes of Y. Hazony & R. Sacks. I think it's going to take a new stream to make these ideas "stick." (And boy do they need to.)
What are you talking about? Orthodox Jews are heavily involved in science and engineering. Rabbi Sacks, OBM, and Yoram were engaging in a philosophical dialogue of a high level. "Orthodox Judaism", ie, traditional Judaism is focused on an examination of Man and his place and duties in the universe. Modern results of that can be seen in the writings of Rabbi J. Soloveitchik, OBM. As for "humanism", that's a vague term. The definition of the American Humanist Association, is, "Humanism is a progressive philosophy of life that, without theism or other supernatural beliefs, affirms our ability and responsibility to lead ethical lives of personal fulfillment that aspire to the greater good". Since the basic definition rejects belief in God. The belief in God as Creator, Giver of Revelation and Actor in History is the cornerstone of Judaism. So, you seem to be asking for Jews to give up Judaism. Maybe they should, but you should be clear in about you are asking.
thank's you! In fact I did react about the attitude of Daniel Johnson!!! ( see the first seconds of the video) and not at all about the Chief rabbi!! ( about Pessach, try also his wonderful "the chief Rabbi's Haggadah"
Any philosophy that can be extracted from the Old Testament will fall short or be misleading insofar as it is not being interpreted through a Christological lens. "Then I fell down at his feet to worship him, but he said to me, “You must not do that! I am a fellow servant with you and your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God.” For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy" (Revelation 19:10)
No worries! I never doubted your sincerity! Have a wonderful Pessach and be sure to check out some of the Chief Rabbi's youtube's on Passover...there are some real goodies awaiting you.
This is often quoted as evidence of Tertullian's irrationalism; but the idea is not under discussion. The context is actually an argument with Marcion, who believed in the resurrection, but didn't believe Christ had a real body. Tertullian points out that Christ himself said that worldly wisdom was not to be trusted on such things, so if Marcion was following it, he must be in the wrong. The idea of irrationalism as such, as opposed to 'the wisdom of the world is foolishness' does not arise.
You know it because man, I don't know because don't know much than you. One question please! Why our head have hair and why sometimes other have bone only and don't like flesh and body connect to it, please?
Tertullian also wrote: "Quippe res dei ratio quia deus omnium conditor nihil non ratione providit disposuit ordinavit, nihil [enim] non ratione tractari intellegique voluit". "For reason is a property of God's, since there is nothing which God, the creator of all things, has not foreseen, arranged and determined by reason; moreover, there is nothing He does not wish to be investigated and understood by reason". Tertullian uses paradox in his writings, which makes it difficult to exegete.
Acts 28:20 reason the whole book of Revelation. Patmos was called Malta after the works of 5.19 Galatians, first @ Corinth. of 1/10th. Therefore 3 Philipians beware of evil ' works...
Rabbi Sack's erudition is often punctuated by his great wit but alas the audience is somewhat lacking in mirth on this occasion. I think they should all have been made to sit on whoopie cushions. There you go....
Its a misrepresentation of Tertullian. This has been known for a long time. If we look at Tertullian's writings as a whole its quite obvious that he believed reason was extremely important in belief.
I believe that Rabbi Sacks has the ability to transcend the academic way of thinking/saying things by refining it into something that so many people would be able to understand.
Brilliant discussion and exploration of issues.

Yoram Hazony, you are a brilliant thinker, an inspiration, I have learned so much from this video thanks to you.
Baruch Dayan Ha’Emet, Rabbi Sacks passing away is a monumental loss for the world
Brilliance! " History is an Arena of Change", an exploration of depth from Old text into Modern times. Thank you.
I liked Daniel Johnson's speech at the end !

Simply extraordinary.
Breathtaking!
Can make one dance with joy!

Many thanks! Great stuff.

The Chief Rabbi's question@ 27:30 elucidates the problem very clearly.
But is religion the best resource available to us as we try to resolve it?
The Cheif Rabbi is an Amazing Intellect
Yes he is but this young fella Horam is also an intellect to be reckoned with.

Therefore Hebrew's 11:12 is 2 Thessalonica 3:17 and Titus void 3.9

it is not a very academic way , ,not a philosophical way and not biblical also to put books ON THE FLOOR !!!!
