- DAY 3 : Noida-Zirakpur-Kandaghat-Kufri- Narkand (451kms)
Today we were going to touch the foothills of the Himalayas. Started at 6:15am and was able to cross Delhi within half an hour. Except for some diversions near Panipat, entire stretch was in good condition. From Zirakpur took the diversion towards Shimla and onto the Himalayan expressway which was a complete delight to drive. The road was four laned but there some diversions in between due to recent landslides. From Kandaghat I took the diversion from NH-5 towards Chail. Could have taken the Shimla route but opted for the Chail option because roads around Shimla are prone to Traffic jams. The Chail - Kufri road had minimal traffic but was very narrow and required careful driving. Rejoined NH-5 at Kufri and reached Narkand by 9:30pm.

Kandaghat - Kufri | Narrow single road | Average
Kufri - Narkand | Single road | Good

DAY 4 : Narkand - Rampur - Karcham - Chitkul (189 kms)
The curvy road throughout the entire day was very adventurous and fun to drive. I had planned to reach Chitkul by 2:00pm but the zigzag roads slowed down my speed. The final hike leading up to Chitkul from Rakchham village was in very bad condition and took almost an hour to negotiate. But the view was just getting better and better. September being off season the entire stretch had very sparse traffic. Finally reached Citkul at 5:30pm.

During our entire trip we covered almost all settlements in and around Spiti valley namely Chitkul, Nako, Gipu, Tabo, Mud, Dhankar, Langza, Komic, Hikkim, Kaza, Key, Kibber, Chicham, Chandrataal lake, Batal, Chhatru, Gramphu, Rohtang pass & Manali.

I was posted in narkanda.i spent 2 years there...narkanda is known for heavy snowfall..it has highest peak known as hatu peak....very fomous amongst tourist.
Posted in Narkanda...That would have been really exciting. Which firm do u work for? And yes I knew about Hatu peak but during this tour Spiti was my main target. In my next tour to Himachal will cover all the places that I missed specially the Jalori pass belt.

We use toilets in fuel pumps and dhabas... But sometimes you don't get these options at remote places.
