No. Without the hub the phone and the bot communicate through Bluetooth. They must be connected to set a schedule, then you can walk away. They also make smart door locks, you may want to know about it, it can be what you need.
What's the obsession with turning the tv on with your phone? It's so much easier to do with a remote control, only a single button press. What I use the switch bot for is to turn on my espresso machine in the morning so it warms up by the time I get up and get to the kitchen. Light switch application is kind of cool when you're away from home you're able to turn on the lights and simulate being there.

I've been wondering if I could use one of these to open and close our front window blinds. They're manually lifted up and down to open and close the luvers. Of course there's a draw-string to raise and lower the entire blinds but we hardly ever do that. I'd probably have to get two switch bots and have one at the top and bottom. But there's only a horizontal arm at the top to open and close the luvers. So I'd have to attach some kind of string or wire to the Switchbot arm. But who knows if that set-up would even work. The Switchbot arm would have to have a decent pull strength to it. And I'm kinda doubtful of it's strength after seeing that it couldn't press your garage-door opener button.
these things are useless on standard switches let alone curtain controls. I have not found one switch where it functions as it should. It is way too weak and cant push\pull on anything.
Can you have more than one preset for the same switch? For example, one setting to press for 3 seconds and then another setting to press for one second? Keeping in mind I don’t want these settings combined.

So I want a remote button-pusher like Switchbot to push the dashboard button that activates my windshield defrost. What's the range of this thing? Would it work in a car covered in snow and ice? Would it work when the car temperature is -10 degrees C or colder? I guess batteries don't work well in extreme cold, but when the cabin warms up will the Switchbot work? Also, do the batteries that it uses get damaged in extreme cold? It's rare but it can get to -30 C where I live.
