I watched this a week ago. But the ending was different. When they went out on another outing, Jay confessed his feelings towards her , got down on one knee and proposed to her. Of course, I shedded a tear or two.
As a Filipina, my take on this was that both Jay and Paul are Ann’s suitors or “manliligaw”. It’s in the Filipino culture for the guy to court or do whatever it takes to get the sweet, sweet “yes” from the girl (which means you’re now officially her boyfriend). You can have more than one suitor, hence these two, and Ann’s having a tough time of choosing who she wants to be in a relationship with.
