Great reaction guys. I saw this in the theater and loved it. Glad you guys checking out foreign language movies. You might want to check out Guilermo del Toro's early work in Spanish language (The Devil's Backbone).
I feel like the girl took so long to turn because of innocence. Knowing it's a demon makes Bible lore possible, so an innocent soul would be harder to corrupt. Also the demon is not above playing the part until the jig is up it seems.
My sister worked at a video store (remember when that was a thing? lol) and one of the customers told her to watch it completely blind--that it was worth it--so she brought it back from work and we watched it at 11 pm and I'll never forget how freaked out we were. SO good!
I would like to compliment the technical side of this reaction and say that I truly appreciate your subtitle work. A tricky predicament for a reaction video and handled so flawlessly, most of us probably won’t even notice. 👍
[REC]2 is worth checking out as it dives more into the story started here. But the 3rd and 4th installments take a pretty sad turn as it goes into very Army Of Darkness type of comedy/horror, which I feel ruined what was so great about the first 2 films. You can watch the 2nd and stop and you will get all you need from the series.
The first time I watched it, I didn't know what it was since I stumbled on it. The ending scared the crap out of me, I couldn't watch... one of the most intense horror movie, even descent hasn't that level of freaky...
I highly recommend REC director Jaume Balagueró's other movie "Sleep Tight" (Mientras duermes). It's a thriller and takes place in a Spanish apartment building as well.
You 100% have to watch REC 2, it explains a lot of the lore in this universe, won't spoil anything but is a must watch if you wan't to understand the lore
As a spanish fella myself I can tell you that the difference between european spanish and latin-american spanish is just like the difference between britain english and american english..... Both are the same language, but either the accent and some expressions changes (especially on swearing, no other country in the world has the curses Spain has XDXD).... It's ok if you can't tell the difference, it takes some time listening to both languages to actually notice the subtle changes.....
I think the little girl turned slower because she wasn't bitten and the others bled out, hence died. Ah she is a basketball fan, and he is a Fallout fan!
you find out how the feds knew in the second film ! Most law enforcement officers in Spain are issued a sidearm to carry while they are on duty. In some cases of heightened alert officers have access to sub-machine guns and occasionally a rifle if needed.
I'm honestly a bit surprised, Mr. Movies is around my age, a fan of many of the same genre and films, but he hadn't seen [•REC] is unexpected. At the time there was a ton of buzz and I remember some friends calling it "Blair Witch done right". I didn't watch it until a few years later, I want to say when it was on Amazon Prime.
This is way better then the American remake. So creepy and claustrophobic just insane. Also you should check out Ringu the Japanese version of the ring. Very atmospheric. 24:04 the sequel's go deeper into this
There is a comic that is a prequel and explains the origin. The patience 0 was the possessed girl from the penthouse. The possession works like an infection. The infection passed from the girl to the rats of the penthouse and then to the dog.
I can only speak for Britain but it might be all of Europe. What you call the ground floor is the first floor for us. So your first is our second and so on.
Great reaction! Please more horror movies, especially "found footage" movies 👍 I highly recommend "Grave Encounters" and "As Above So Below" - absolutely the best from found footage genre 👍
@TheLegendOfOblivion lake Mungo is just horrifying, one of the few movies I actually found myself forgetting it was a film and not a true documentary...it's literally like a feature length buildup to that last moment... Very sad film, and odd that the director has done like, nothing else which is nuts
The long takes and the practical effects on top of being filmed in an an actual apartment complex gives this such a gritty real feel. The American version, "Quarantine," comes close to being a shot for shot english language remake.
Spanish in Spain is a different dialect than most Latin American Spanish. Cursing is also part of their vocabulary. Growing up I was told Spanish shows and movies rarely show in Puerto Rico tv if ever cause of all the cursing. The subtitles in this movie are so censored! These people curse in almost every sentence and the subtitles don't show it! 😂
Most people are possessed within seconds of being infected, but not Jennifer the young girl who was said to be ill for hours before succumbing. The religious background of the infection explains the discrepancy: Children Are Innocent thus take longer to possess than any of the adults who certainly have a fair share of sins to speak of.
Paco Plaza is a great director from here in Spain, his last moivie is: La abuela/the grandmother (2021) and you can see too: Verónica (2017) great director! xd
There’s also an American remake called Quarantine. It’s practically a shot for shot remake of [rec] and it stars Dexter’s own sister Jennifer Carpenter as the reporter. There’s also a Quarantine 2. But it’s its own thing and not a remake of [rec] 2.
At the back of their uniform it says Ajuntament de Barcelona Bombers, it's in Catalan, meaning fire fighters/firemen of Barcelona City Council. Bombers in Catalan is bombero in Spanish. The subtitles just lack the expressiveness of Spanish, including the swear words which makes it more expressive hahaha
I forgot how good this movie was. If you decide to keep watching the REC saga, REC2 is more of the same with a few twists but REC3 is VERY fun to watch.

Okay. One second in. Havent even watched the reaction vid yet but I am so excited. Rec is one of the greatest films ever. I love this film so much. First reaction channel I have seen reacting to it as well.
I think a lot (not all) Nord Americans need to LEARN the diference between speaking Spanish, and the country Spain in Europe... when a movie is from Spain, its for Spain EUROPE, if its from Argentina its From Argentina SOUTH AMERICA, not so dificult, rest of the world knows it, think about it 🤣
I’m pretty sure it’s just traveling. When you’re playing ball outside or at the Y you might hear an up & down call. That being said, I was not expecting that from either 1 of you so I laughed when y’all were figuring it out. Awesome little wrinkle to y’all’s reactions that I always enjoy!!!
I thought traveling was taking 3 steps without dribbling. But I'm not a basketball fan by any means so what do I know. I thought it was up and down penalty as well.
So there was an American adaptation of this film made the year after Rec released, called Quarantine (2008). Except it was zombies and had no mention of rituals. I liked Quarantine a lot. It’s cool to see where they got the idea from.
The theory on the girl of why her infection took so long cuz the saliva got into her eyes/mouth. Theory on Manu's infection if you pay attention to his face when he mallet down the door to the entrance door there was blood on his mouth from smashing the infected Chinese woman's head. So some of the blood got into his mouth or chances in the eyes if it got to the eyes but definitely got into the mouth.
OHHH BOY THIS MOVIE IS SOOO GOOOD, You really need to watch " EL HOYO " btw thats EU SPANISH :D , theres EU SPANISH, South american SA , and Latinamerican spanish :p
Please consider reacting to”Annabelle: creation” (the 2nd Annabelle in the conjuring universe) is the only 100% rotten tomatoe rated horror film and it’s AMAZING! Honestly!
This is for the Mrs., when Mr. said "up & down" for the violation the reporter made while playing basketball, he was right as well. Technically in the NBA, it is a form of traveling. Everyone I know who played basketball growing up called it "up & down", not a travel. I even looked it up on Google and Quora just to see if it was just my specific region, or if it was universal knowledge. Based on my findings, it is pretty much universal. P.S. The NBA also changed the traveling rule in 2009 (to benefit Lebron James) from 2 steps to 3 steps allowed after picking up the dribble. It is technically called a gather, and then 2 additional steps, but the reality is it is 3 steps.

They totally missed (and didn't show) the scene where the Government guy in the yellow hazmat suit explained how people's blood types affect how fast they "turn" after being infected.
OMG YESSSSSSSSSSSS!!! One of my favorite movies ever!!! I'm Portuguese and I love spanish films so much! They usually do such an amazing job of portraying real emotions! I love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I always shocked at how realistic the blood looks. It has the right color.
NOOOPPEEE!
I've seen this before. This and The Descent are the only two horror movies that scared the s*** out of me.
EDIT: HAH! You even mentioned The Descent during your reaction. 😅
this is definitely one of my favorite horror movies EVER. i remember watching this when i was 10 lol and i was so scared bc i thought it was real. the second one is also just as scary as this one
Markus is the MVP, always requesting the greatest of movies
incredibly happy to see you react to Spanish cinema, greetings from La Coruña, Spain, I never thought I would see REC with you, I hope you see the rest of the parts, I assure you that you will love the wedding
Oh, god, I watched in the theater at my 15 years old and I ended exhausted and confused
It's really a frantic trip through the guts of Hell. One of the few spanish modern movies that deserves to be watched
I'm so glad you guys reacted to the original Spanish version of it and not the Quarantine movies. This is definetly one to remember forever, very original, very well made and very scary LOL.
You should definetly check out Ari Aster's Midsommar !
Great reaction guys. I saw this in the theater and loved it. Glad you guys checking out foreign language movies. You might want to check out Guilermo del Toro's early work in Spanish language (The Devil's Backbone).
The Devil's Backbone is so goooood, definitely a masterpiece of a movie.
Barcelona was one of the first words said by David Tennant as the 10th Doctor.
I feel like the girl took so long to turn because of innocence. Knowing it's a demon makes Bible lore possible, so an innocent soul would be harder to corrupt.
Also the demon is not above playing the part until the jig is up it seems.
I so love the "not a virus" twist.
Call me silly but I love that “yay~!” little sound byte you folks include
That movie was a hell of a ride
REC 2 reaction anyone?
Haha! I saw the name of the movie and my first thought was Markus. Keep 'em coming, brother.
I am getting a real Joan Cusack vibe from you. You've got the look, the voice and the expressions. REC was much scarier than Dawn 2004.
This movie scared the living sh*y out of me when I first saw it! Your reaction was almost identical to all our own!
- *THE TOWN (2010)*
- *PRIMAL FEAR (1996)*
- *WIND RIVER (2017)*
- *CATCH ME IF YOU CAN (2002)*
🔥🔥🍿🤘
Wind river yeah good one
You gotta pay dude. This is just spam
Thanks Alan! 👍 @ClasssicAdden You need to learn to mind your own biz. Trying to sound like a leg breaker SMH!! 🤦🏻♂️🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
If you like this genre, I would recommend going Cloverfield. It´s much more hollywoodised of course but also pretty suspenseful.....
24:04 the sequel's go deeper into this
REC is so so good. It's so good that the american remake is not terrible just based on the strength of this filmmaking and story.
There is a comic that is a prequel and explains the origin. The patience 0 was the possessed girl from the penthouse. The possession works like an infection. The infection passed from the girl to the rats of the penthouse and then to the dog.
Spanish police are definitely armed. Every officer carries a 9mm semiautomatic pistol. They also use shotguns and semiautomatic rifles.
REC is an excellent movie! Great choice
Radioactive zombies? The hills have eyes might be the closest I have seen on that 👀
I can only speak for Britain but it might be all of Europe.
What you call the ground floor is the first floor for us.
So your first is our second and so on.
Great reaction! Please more horror movies, especially "found footage" movies 👍 I highly recommend "Grave Encounters" and "As Above So Below" - absolutely the best from found footage genre 👍
Grave encounters 🤮
Grace encounters is one of my all time favorite horror movies completely unexpected
I"d add "Lake Mungo" and "The Tunnel"
@@TheLegendOfOblivion Oooh! Lake Mungo is a great one too. More people should be aware of that movie. So creepy and so f*****g sad.
@TheLegendOfOblivion lake Mungo is just horrifying, one of the few movies I actually found myself forgetting it was a film and not a true documentary...it's literally like a feature length buildup to that last moment...
Very sad film, and odd that the director has done like, nothing else which is nuts
I really wanted to see you reacting to “Ready or not”, it’s not scary, but I bet you’d have a lot o fun watching it
The long takes and the practical effects on top of being filmed in an an actual apartment complex gives this such a gritty real feel.
God I can’t FUCKING wait for you guys to see part 2!!!
0:04... just look at the difference in their faces!! 😄😄😄😄 Opposites really do attract...
My respect for Mr. Movies just went up with the Fallout reference!
Please look into "The Men Who Stare At Goats"
Most people are possessed within seconds of being infected, but not Jennifer the young girl who was said to be ill for hours before succumbing. The religious background of the infection explains the discrepancy: Children Are Innocent thus take longer to possess than any of the adults who certainly have a fair share of sins to speak of.
Paco Plaza is a great director from here in Spain, his last moivie is: La abuela/the grandmother (2021) and you can see too: Verónica (2017) great director! xd
I love this movie! He's just genius and simple. I always watch when I want a more ghastly night lol
The subtitles just lack the expressiveness of Spanish, including the swear words which makes it more expressive hahaha
the girl lives in the darkness thats why they couldn't see it with light, once the darkness comes she lives.
Not mexican, but it's spanish and it's filmed in Bareclona Spain!
I forgot how good this movie was. If you decide to keep watching the REC saga, REC2 is more of the same with a few twists but REC3 is VERY fun to watch.
Iirc Part 2 is basically the same movie just in Pov of the firebrigade.
Love her reaction on this one because it was what i and everyone else feel watching it for the first time.
I've always been reluctant to watch these Rec movies (I'm not a fan of found footage) but you just got me watching them all now ❤️ Tonight I'm watching the 4th in the series. So, thank you, Mr and Mrs Movies!
I know the 4th was different in how it was shot but it still was good (despite getting flack).
REC is seriouly one of the best horror films of the last few decades..its very very scary
Okay. One second in. Havent even watched the reaction vid yet but I am so excited. Rec is one of the greatest films ever. I love this film so much. First reaction channel I have seen reacting to it as well.
It’s in Spanish from Spain, not from Mexico. There’s a difference very noticeable for us just like you guys with uk/us accent
This is the one "found footage" type movie that actually messed me up. Good stuff.
@@alexs1640 you’re probably right. I may just never see it called.
It’s both up and down is a type of traveling
So there was an American adaptation of this film made the year after Rec released, called Quarantine (2008). Except it was zombies and had no mention of rituals. I liked Quarantine a lot. It’s cool to see where they got the idea from.
It's called up and down when going for a shot lmao
The theory on the girl of why her infection took so long cuz the saliva got into her eyes/mouth.
Theory on Manu's infection if you pay attention to his face when he mallet down the door to the entrance door there was blood on his mouth from smashing the infected Chinese woman's head. So some of the blood got into his mouth or chances in the eyes if it got to the eyes but definitely got into the mouth.
OHHH BOY THIS MOVIE IS SOOO GOOOD, You really need to watch " EL HOYO "
btw thats EU SPANISH :D , theres EU SPANISH, South american SA , and Latinamerican spanish :p
Please consider reacting to”Annabelle: creation” (the 2nd Annabelle in the conjuring universe) is the only 100% rotten tomatoe rated horror film and it’s AMAZING! Honestly!
Even though I'm not a big zombie movie fan, I always wanted to see this, so thank you for reacting to it. It was really intense and surprisingly good.
It’s from Spain. Great film and reaction! Keep it up y’all!
Thanks Grandaddy Markus - good choice homie, love this movie
