- More than 150 people have now been charged in court over the recent riots, according to the Ministry of Justice, which said 118 had been remanded behind bars.

At least a dozen were jailed - some for stirring up racial hatred on social media, while police warned there would be more arrests to come.
Sir Keir Starmer said the speed of the legal process - including sentencing - would deter others from getting involved in any future disorder.

The punishment is much too excessive. Someone impulsively writing a comment is barely above the threshold of thinking out loud. He should have gotten a fine or not allowed to post to the internet for a month. Or worse he could get sued by the hotel. But 2 years in jail is a dangerous precedent I hope there is an appeal.

A protestor who is acting they believe to highlight and get government/s to act rather than talk only was put away . If I understand correctly he did not act in a violent manner. I dont know what mitigating circumstances there were but seems excessively rough justice in comparison to a bunch of racist violent people terrorising entire communities up and down the country meaning that some people especially women to fearful to leave their homes in daylight let alone in evening.

One of the most powerful demos I have ever seen, and did change things, was when a couple of hundred people went to a particular government property and stood there in silence, tape across their mouths for added emphasis. It freaked out the security guard and some of the staff went home early. No violence, no vandalism, but peaceful protest.
I was on a two-week work mission in London last month. The truth is that I was surprised by the large number of immigrants, Africans and homeless people in London. In Saudi Arabia, we have a system in which you either reside with a regular residence permit or you are deported to your country. We have tens of thousands who are deported weekly because they violate the residency system.
Saudi only has 38% of the entire population have citizenship. The rest are virtually slaves.

I find it concerning that the whole judicial process can be carried out so quickly. Do individuals have time to formulate a defence? Could miscarriages of justice happen as a result of the speed of the process? This is very worrying indeed.
