An excellent video. The second scene, Rattery, was one of the best sweeping shots I’ve seen. Mayflower has performed very well this summer on all the trains to the south west. The ascent of Hermerdon was far better than many made by more powerful locos. The Class 47 was pushing hard!
Great video with mayflower and the 47 sounding fantastic climbing the steep West Country gradients. I especially liked the first clip at victory crossing. Is it near Tiverton Parkway by any chance?
Nice video and yes, nice sounds of a steam loco doing its thing...but, with over 400 tonnes on the drawbar the Class 5, B1, would not have managed without a lot of shoving from the 47 on the rear, as witnessed by the diesel exhaust. So let's just say it's an excellent performance by the 47, with a cameo from the B1!!!
Exactly. And they often get a shove away from station stops as there is no way a loco moves off with the regulator only open part of the way on a 13 coach train! The diesel needs to be there ONLY to help on the likes of Hemerdon otherwise it is a diesel tour with steam only for show! She does work hard though at places!
The Class 47 does much less than you think. It is there for assistance (unsurprising given the load) but its main purpose is insurance in case something went wrong and power for the kitchen car. On this particular day, the 47 is only taking the weight of itself and 2/3 coaches, the mayflower is doing the rest. For LSL services, the driver of the loco radios the 47 for help when required. I have filmed many LSL steam tours with no assistance from the rear, albeit on less significant climbs, such as Whiteball.
Super! Thank you.
Very nice indeed...Mayflower certainly delivered!

Couldn't agree more!
Greta video like always Well done

Thank you. Victory Crossing is closer to Taunton than Tiverton, have a look on a map
