it may be an unpopular opinion but I take no issue with what Spotify pays us. It blows my my that a free streaming service pays anything! Bandcamp on the other hand takes a HUGE cut, I predict it will meet the same fate as Myspace now that Epic Games has purchased it...@@R3TR0R4V3
@@R3TR0R4V3 Yeah that new pay cut was really greedy from spotify! Never used them personally. In business there's the term "flipping the coin" that's what has happened in music industry, there's lot more artists who want be on these platforms and make it than audience wanting to support and buy stuff so if you wanna make money you flip it and try to make the artists pay for you as you promise them the chance to maybe, maybe make it. If i would have my albums in Spotify ect i would need distrokid ect that costs 20 euros a year to keep them at float. I can make a CD of my album for about 1,50 euros a piece and sell it for a fan at 20 euros. I make more money, the sound qualty is a lot better, cover art is bigger, no middle man makes nothing
@@fuzzcityrecords432 Has bandcamp increased it's cut %? Do you know the number how much it is? I have to look that up... That's been the main streaming / internet option for me. I maybe have to start looking for something else. 🎵 Looking for another way...
I knew there must have been a reason I didn’t get rid of my tascam 4 track cassette recorder. As a side note if you have old electronics that die , save them and solder in some new electrolytic capacitors. I just saved an old Zoom 9002 from the trash can by doing that.
Love your commitment to the 388. I owned a M320b and a Tascam 38 for a while and loved the MSeries boards so much that I bought a M308 just to keep around for the Preamps and EQ. Just found your band while looking up Yamaha YC30s and I love the music. Hope your LP's get a repress cause they are all sold out. Cheers!
Great video. This 4 minute video will serve as a quick bible for future generations who want to learn how to create an authentic analog sounding smooth punk song. Good work, you did your duty now for the future punkers!
@@fuzzcityrecords432I know you guys are overseas now, but we've actually got some pretty cool places to play in memphis if you ever make it back this way. 🤞 Also, kinda random cool thing you might like - there's a poster for living the dream on a lamp post at the corner of cooper and young. It caught me by surprise a while back.
Such a fun making of video! I'll have to remember or figure out why you even bother to mix on the computer in between the two tape machines. I think it was explained elsewhere on the channel. I have your psychedelic vinyl by the way. Many of the songs (all?) are about dreams, which is good enough for me and then some.
Hey, check out the Fuse Audio Labs TCS-68 plugin! Compared it to my 424 and it comes pretty close! Of course it's not the real deal, but it might be of good use at times. :)
I always use most Lanier 250 mics on the drums a cheap vintage cardoid mic, just going straight into the tape machine, and then ran the vocals thru a boss sd1 with the drive very low . Nothing too fancy on this jam , wanted to keep it kinda punk

Spotify is horrible to their artists and doesn't pay them shit.. Bandcamps gotta be a step in the right direction, surely! ;-)

“¯\_(ツ)_/¯“
This is like the Bob Ross of making music. ASMR for the rock soul
Yes yes and yes, video was perfect and song was too!!!
Thanks for sharing your process. I really like your sound.
Glad your posting again!
Great sound and love the deconstruction of the track.
Very inspirational and I’ve been playing over 50 years. Time to dust off the Tascam
Nothing better then drums to 1/4in
That sounded fantastic.

Always love your videos in the studio, Matthew!

Bitchin! I always look forward to what you and Doris are getting up to :)
Super solid demo, love it❤
Cool track. 👍 Growing up in Memphis is a deep well to draw upon.
you from Memphis too?
Yeah, in 70s, 80’s, some of the 90’s. Haven’t been back in ages.

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS (And the shirt Rocks too)
That was fun😃
Tape is life!
I never knew that smooth punk was just rock&roll.
What is "just Rock and roll” rock has many genres💀
Did I say yes? HELL YESSSSS!!!
Good one.
Nice!
What's crackin ?
et voilà ! les doigts dans le nez :) !
Melton - I dig your drum and vocal production.
What vocal chain did you use? What mic did you use? I have a Roland Tape Echo 201.

I know the feeling 66 and still struggling

very nice, what saturation do you use on vocals and how did you mic the drums? would be awesome if you would be open to share, thanks!

Are you going thru any of those rackmount preamps and compressors on the in to the 388?
Can you use different kind of preamps into the console? I mean, avoid the console preamp and use the rest of the channel strip
Sure, you can run your signal through any chain you dream up! I don't think the preamps can be completely bypassed but they are fairly transparent
My shortest full song is 1:15! Haha beat that lol
your stuffs are always super interesting! I wonder if "smooth Punk" are the new name of Post Punk. Similar soundings. :)
How do you bounce from the Tascam to a daw?
You need an audio interface with at least 8 channels and an 8 channel snake, set the levels right and then just hit record!
Did you play drums on this one?
He pushed the mouse?
@@eduardoalmeida61 I think this was later made break down of the song, not made during the actual recording
yep! I'm not much of a drummer, but it is me playing real drums!
Never used non-real drums thank you very much! @@eduardoalmeida61
Why you dont go outside and find friends to play with you?
No. Because they'll probably act like you.
Prince never needed anyone to help him make his music.
In my case = couse there are non where i live!
yeah says the guy hanging out in the TH-cam comments HA 😂
