  • Due to having 13pin socket on my car and the 7n & 7s plugs on my caravan falling apart I decided to remove both and replace them for the 13pin Euro plug.
This is a short video on how I changed them over. The whole job took around 2 hours and was fairly straight forward.

Very good video. Clear shots and spreadsheet too make it excellent!

Very helpful. I pondered doing ours but bottled it in the end and got in done with a service! Thanks for sharing, Rich.

I pondered it for a while, then took the plunge. Was ok but a little confusing due to some wire colours not matching up! Glad I did it though. Cheers Martin 👍

My two 7-Pin leads (in a 1990's ABI) went up a hole in the floor to a connection/ fuse panel easily reached under the front of one of the beds. I removed them completely and my new 13-Pin lead goes directly to that panel. I had no need for an intermediate connection box. By making the new lead "too long" you can simply adjust its hanging length by pulling some back into a bit of a loop under the floor before clipping it to the A frame.

I looked at bringing the cable from inside the van but it went directly into the consumer unit so didn’t want to touch that. I have since changed the van and have 13pin on there. Thanks for comments and watching 😊

This is a job I must do, because I'm fed up of the crappy adaptor I've got. The 12N and 12S wires enter the caravan under one of the front beds, and go into a Junction box. It'll just be a case of unscrewing all these wires and replacing them with the new wire for the 13 pin plug. Cheers Martin. 👍

It’s a fiddly job but worth it in the end. Cheers

Don't know why it should have taken you so long. I just tried Googling "Caravan connector colour codes" and the first hit was www.britishcaravannersclub.co.uk/Help%20Advice/information/wiring.php and further down the page was the even more authoritative www.caravanclub.co.uk/media/1022790/towbar-wiring-mo.pdf

@@TheCaravanNut when did mine i went through all the connections a few days before I started and made a diagram of the fuse box the cable went in to under the seat. Got spade lugs on the cable ready then just disconnected and reconnected on core at a time. Had the 13 pin socket fitted to car with towbar simply to make back of car look less cluttered
