So many hours spent in Soulcalibur 3 solo, that you could make your "own" character, what weapon to use, spent so much time unlocking costumes, those were the day.
@@Ahkziel 6 still has a great one. So much lore for all the characters, and the CAS has extensive options. The problem is just the lack of variety in stages and weapons.
SC3 is my personal favorite. I’ve always played fighting games as a single player experience and the sheer volume and quality of content of SC3 is unmatched
@MerlautZone broken Destiny was just a direct port of the psp. Before sc6, sc2 was their best selling. 1 was a digital only version for xbox since it was only available in dreamcast physically. I see your point, and again, sc3 is my favorite. But, unless you emulate it, I have a feeling it'll be stuck on ps2 forever.
I played a lot of SC2 during my teens and watching this video I am amazed at how good it looks. The models and stages got the fun style and the animations look as good today!
After purchasing Soul Calibur 4, I was absolutely shocked at how little the game offered compared to Soul Calibur 3. At that point, the series died for me, and subsequent installments only confirmed this.
I didn't grow up with a PS2 so didn't get to play SC3 until like a decade later. But I had fun with 4. Never played 5 (for obvious reasons) and 6 is fun....but so vastly different of a game.
Always felts SC4 was a tech demo for the PS3 rather than a fully fledged game. Character creation looked fantastic and was unlike anything other fighting games were offering, to the point the creation mode even today is mostly very similar to SC4, but the rest of the game felt gutted. Few to none alternate game modes. And in SC3 ypu had your own mode with progression for your created character. In SC4 it was just for showing off online and see what whacky characters you could find. But if SC4 was a step back SC5 was a landslide downwards in almost every aspect 😂. I'm glad we got SC6. At least if it's the last game of the franchise it goes out in a high note and a return to form in many aspects 😢
The SC6 community projects an announcement for SC7 sometime in the next... 1-3 years or something like that. Which isn't great, but a new game is considered all but confirmed considering SC6 did much better than projected and new SC's are made using the profits from Tekken's success, and T8 is doing very well sales-wise right now.
I hope the makers can look back at the first few games and really get back to their roots regarding what made these games so amazing...and I hope the story has actual animated scenes, not just moving pics. For example more like the new Mortal kombat 1 story
Soul Calibur 6 is one of the best modern fighting games gameplay wise. Season 2 was a well balanced blast with fantastic dlc additions. I am hopeful that the series can reach a new audience with rollback in the future
The gameplay was interesting but honestly it used to have so much more personality and the online barely worked in sc6 you’d be lucky to actually connect to your opponents as well as most features being from 4 or 5
Soul Calibur 2 on Game Cube with Link was the peak of the series for me. Also, I remember playing the Japanese version of Soul Blade and Voldo’s meat would be flinging around while he performed extremely suspect attacks on his opponents. Crazy stuff man.
I was literally talking to my friend about missing this series a few days ago and here this video shows up in my feed and I watch the entire thing. One day we'll get another Soul Calibur.
@Mister I think TH-cam was listening to you. I've had too many moments where I have conversations with people about something and, that something appears on my TH-cam account for me to check out.
All of the Soul Edge / Soul Caliburs intros are bangers, especially SC 2 and SC 3 but nothing nothing can top the earnest awesomness of the first one of Soul Edge.
This video is so well made. I'm a musician but also a gamer and i love how much time you've put into this. Video games are art. And thank you so much for showing the original games before Soul calibur 2 because i never got to see those games until today! Thank you so much for reminding me how much I loved this game. I miss Soul Calibur 2 so much. I loved playing as Link on Gamecube ! What a crazy time in gaming history
Really glad you enjoyed it! I had a lot of fun putting this together, so it's nice to see the passion I have for this series and video editing translate well to others.
I’ll never forget the day Soulblade came out. I bought it, we were all gathered at a friend’s house and that intro and song blew us all away. I feel like they have never replicated that experience ever since.
... not me. That intro, the selectable weapons, the hidden characters..... all running on PS1! Could've done without the needless censorship and name change on the U.S. version tho 🤷♂️
Soul Calibur 3 was the last one I actually enjoyed fully. Had the best campaign and an amazing side campaign that felt like a great combination of strategy and fighting genre, also helped it was before the internet infected gaming so the game was complete not sold half complete selling its content as dlc. Granted I can never declare I was good at these games tho but I had fun.
Games became trash in the internet dlc era. The fact that few cames come fully complete so the developers can extort the gamer is a travesty. It's one of the reasons why Baldur's Gate 3 sold so well and was well-received. Larian developers hate the dlc model and released the game complete by their standards aside from a few add-ons that they update freely.
Dang, man... this was a beautifully done video. As someone who was given a Dreamcast and a copy of Soulcalibur at the age of 6, it's one of my favorite fighting games of all time. I would love to see it return one day, but I resonated with everything you had to say about 4 and 5's damage to the series longevity. It is painful to admit that it's in a terrible spot at the moment, but, surely, 6 can't be the end.
My first experience with this series was playing Soul Edge at my local mall's arcade - I played this more than any other arcade game. My first home console version was Soul Calibur for Dreamcast, and to this day it's still my favorite of the series.
Great video, I really enjoyed it. I was 17 the first time I played Soul Edge in the arcade in 1996. I worked in the stockroom of a department store (Montgomery Ward for those old enough to remember it lol) in my local mall and I would walk down to "Aladdin's Castle" which was the arcade in the mall and play Soul Edge. I loved it. I had grown up playing arcade fighters, Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat being the biggest, but this was the first with weapons that I really liked. I remember when Soul Blade came out for PS1 I used to walk over to the electronics dept and look at it through the glass just waiting on my next paycheck so I could get it lol. When I finally did I was blown away by all the new modes, Weapon Master Mode being the coolest. Everyone wanted to play it when they'd come in and see me playing it, even people that weren't gamers. I played SoulCalibur a few times at the arcade when it hit but not that much. The Dreamcast was the first console I bought with my own money and I picked up my pre-order from K B Toys and SoulCalibur was of course a day 1 buy. I remember being so blown away by the graphics when I got it home. Everyone was. And again, those non-gamers were playing SoulCalibur just like they'd done with Soul Blade. SoulCalibur is still my favorite in the series. You can definitely make the argument that SCII has the best fighting engine, but the original SC was the most approachable. I've never seen another fighting game that would immediately catch the eye of anyone that saw it and when given a controller they were INSTANTLY having a blast with it. Fun fact, when SoulCalibur released on iOS many years ago I downloaded it on my iPad and was able to claim the top spot in the world with Mitsurugi in Survival Mode for a time, something me and my cousins used to spend hours and hours playing on Dreamcast trying to best each others records. By the time SCII came out I was a big Xbox fan ( I was a Sega kid growing up and a lot of Sega fans - myself included at the time - blamed Sony and the monumental hype of the PS2 for killing the Dreamcast) and absolutely LOVED SCII. The fighting engine was the deepest and most competitive yet. They brought back Weapon Master Mode. I really loved it. But when Namco announced SCIII and that it would all-of-a-sudden be a PS2 exclusive I was not happy. Not because I wouldn't be able to play it, I owned a PS2, but because the Xbox version of SCII had been the superior version of the game technically while the PS2 version was the worst as it was the oldest hardware. I still really enjoyed SCIII though. It suffered from some major frame-rate issues at times and was a graphical downgrade from the Xbox version of SCII, but it made up for it in modes. As you pointed out it had a ton of modes and the were all fun. I spent a lot of time playing Chronicle sof the Sword and in the character creator. What I liked about SCIII's character creator mode over the games that came after was that they had made specific new fighting styles for custom characters that you could use. As for SCIV, I actually really enjoyed it. I loved the guest characters and I got REALLY into the character creator. I made TONS of characters. I really enjoyed the gameplay too even with it being slower than previous games. But that online was pretty laggy lol. SCV was fun but easily my least favorite. I hated that they just pallet swapped all our favorite characters with new ones lol. But I still played a ton of it so it wasn't a bad game. I really like SCVI, still play it with my friends pretty regular. I'm with you though on wanting a new graphical and art style if they ever make a new game. Sorry for the long ramblings but the SoulCalibur series is easily one of my all-time favorite game series. I've played every iteration from when they launched from the very first game in the arcades and have loved them all. Watching your video and seeing you come at it from a genuine love for the series gets me hyped and wanting to reminisce and talk SC lol. But again, great video, I really enjoyed it.
1:35 I didn't feel so nostalgic for a game in a very long time. I remember my father coming from his work and I would play this game with him. He wasn't good at it, but he always used to spend time with me on it. It's been 6 years since he left for his heavenly abode. It hurts a lot now.
That's such a textbook example of love. I just got home from working all day and I'm not good at this game, but I get to spend time with my kid. Thanks for sharing good memories!
Absolutely phenomenal job doing this historical retrospective on the series. I absolutely love Soul Caliber myself and the video truly showed me the nostalgia of it as it grew and fell. Keep it up man!
Such a great video for a great series. I loved the announcer voice adding such epic tone to the whole game. The mechanics of this game made it so fun to play. I felt like a real swordsman learning to use Mitsurugi hahaha I really loved Soul Caliber 2 the best of all.
I first played Soul Calibur at an arcade on a visit to Mexico when I was a kid. I got instantly hooked. The only other fighting game I liked playing was Mortal Kombat. I used to spam Nightmare’s running sword swing attack lol.
Soul calibur 1 and 2 bring back so many memories. I loved soul calibur on the dreamcast. It really took you to a wondrous land, it felt so big and refreshing with the unique characters and epic soundtracks and very satisfying gameplay. This series will always hold a special place in my heart.
Every once in a while, you stumble on a channel that fucking blows you away with its production and the quality of the writing. Today's one of those days. Thanks for the incredible video. You're incredibly talented and I'm certain you'll reach the levels of success you deserve. Hats off.
Thank you so much, I really appreciate that. I'll try my best to continue to deliver the best quality content I can. I love making videos like this, and it's nice to see others who enjoy them too.
There was NOTHING like the era of gaming when 3D was still in early stages, and arcade centers were still a little common in society. Back when going to the movies was still amazing, but renting from Blockbuster was still an experience itself. Nostalgia man.
I still remember the day I played this game for the first time in back in 96, I was 11 at the time. It was just as big of an eye opener as MK1 was back in 92.
I'm in my 30s and arcade machines are something i have barely ever seen in real life. Japan was one of the only countries where they still mattered by the time the year 2000 hit. Consoles and PC provided all the gaming anybody would ever need, and more... as most "arcade" games literally are very shallow experiences.
@@EximiusDuxyour arcade experience was shallow. The competition in arcade stores can get hectic, especially here in South Africa you could get chased at knife point as a 6 year old..ask me how I know😅🙇🏿♂️
With videos like this that are so well written and produced, this channel deserves substantially more than 16k subs. I'm hopping in on the ground floor to watch you get to 300k easy
@uncarvedwood2322 I really appreciate that, thank you! I'm working on getting to the point where I can focus on this 100%, as right now I work all week and don't get much time to put into these videos. But I'll get there!
It's not, I think it had the best pacing out of all the games. It's critical system is far superior to the garbage meter moves in 5 and 6, it was to force you to participate in the fight and take risks instead of block all day.
Same! I remember having fun with 2 at my friend's house, but 4 was the one I REALLY got into. I played it like every day after school with the homies. In my opinion it was the best one, and then it started to suck with 5. I also had no idea it wasn't well-regarded lol
yeah that killed it for me at the time, every match was RE into ulti, Im sure you can counter it somehow but if I cant manage to find out 90% of casuals wont either. only thing that really worked was spamming lightning moves from afar.
@@Slender_Man_186 sure but casuals just spam buttons and when you do this all you get is RE which builds meter for super, your average game will just be a string of the same mediocre cutscenes. and since no one reads up on how RE rps works it also feels random.
I wish that were so, but the series very much is dead. Both in terms of competitive tournaments no longer being held anywhere major, and with few people playing it online at all anymore.
@@traveleroft "Series very much is dead". What? Not sure if you realize, but you do understand that those are two very different things? Soul Calibur is not an MMO. I still play Dreamcast version from time to time.
Thank you man. This was an absolutely incredible breakdown, and the work you put into it has been apparent throughout. Fantastic job on it all, thank you for the memories
Super awesome video, SwiftD. Soulcalibur II and IV are my favorites and I casually enjoy playing them. Only time will tell, but Soulcalibur will be back. Keep up the awesome content 🤠👍🏼
I feel like an oddball in that my top three are probably SC, DOA & SF.. And I also really like VF.. Seems no one else I’ve encountered shares that view.. And I’ve been playing this genre since Karate Champ dropped
That's true, I've come to the realization that SC is the only Japanese series that actually has a proper premise for a fighting game, and the only one aside from Mortal Kombat and Injustice to have such a thing. SF and Tekken sadly don't have these premises, even with their rich lore, the premises at the end are very empty, unlike SC.
@@lukejones7164 Darkstalkers and SamSho sadly do not seem to have a sequel anytime soon, SC at least has some chance of continuing. GG's story is too complicated while also having very bad directions, as both the stories in Xrd and Strive have no gameplay matches at all and the Strive one didn't even include all the base roster chars in it, making the story having a terrible character presentation. SC5 did that mistake also as a ton of chars didn't appear at all in SC5's story, but they fixed it in SC6, which is one of the reasons why MK and IJ stories are fantastic.
I was visiting my dad during winter break, and got to play this at the local arcade way back in 96 when i was 11, I remember this game stood out just as much as Mortal Kombat did back in 92.
I am someone who missed on out SC1 on the Dreamcast and also on SC3 for the PS2, knowing only the magic of SC2 on the Gamecube, which I must have begged my parents for solely because of Link (but grew to admire most of the eclectic cast, especially Taki). My heart fills with nostalgia for those early 2000s days. It is eye-opening to finally know what I missed out on back then! Thank you so much for your excellent analysis of each entry in this classic franchise. I, too, hope it is not the end.
Unpopular Opinion: I love all of the Soulcalibur games in the series, good and bad even if I do respect and see people’s criticisms about Soulcalibur III, IV, V and Legends at the end of the day due to their issues, flaws, nitpicks and problems that they all had! I love Soulcalibur III so freaking much on the PlayStation 2 that it’s on the level of Soul Blade, Soulcalibur and Soulcalibur II in four corners showdown for best installment of the series but I wish it was also on Xbox and GameCube, it would sold a lot more copies IMO, I love the critical finishes and bonus characters in Soulcalibur IV as well even if they were a ripoff of the same character in that game, as for Soulcalibur V, I love the gameplay and the new characters for the game but I wish gameplay was tweaked some more and and wish the Story Mode was written a lot more better than what we originally got and as for Soulcalibur Legends, I love the gameplay but I wish they put in more content in the game and tweaked the controls to make it a bit more responsive but I’m looking forward to playing it for the first time ever! I will forever love this fighting game series until the day I die and I hope and pray that we get a new game in the series very soon in the future but that isn’t saying much right now as of 2024! But come on, a fighting game newbie/casual like me can dream, am I right?
This brings a tear in my eyes. The last two Soul Caliburs didn’t sell well enough and we won’t be getting another Soul Calibur for a long time if not ever again. Harada who is part of Project Soul even said don’t ask about Soul Calibur.
Thankyou for this video! I got chills hearing the theme music. Seung Mina was my main and SC2 definitely my top pick. I did create a flamboyant "dancer" custom character in SC3 who I enjoyed using to beat people up with a tambourine! 😅
We had about 12 regular players in my friends group. And we played combined over 4,000hrs of Soul Calibur 2. We went thru two Xbox's :D I miss that game so much.
Such a well thought out and put together video man. Knowing bassicaly nothing about Soul Calibur I was really blown away. Keep going bro, this video was insane!
Thank you so much man, I really appreciate it. I'm glad I could introduce you to the series! I'll definitely be making more videos on al kinds of games/series, both new and old!
I had always wanted to play Soul Calibur ever since I saw those Star Wars characters on that cover in my local Blockbuster as a kid, and especially when I got older and learned about Link being in the series. This last year, I bought SoulCal 6 because finally had the time, money, and resources to jump in, only to find that most everyone had already gone. Thanks for this video, and I look forward to returning to a new and improved iteration of our favorite stage of history.
Weapon Master Mode in SC2 is my peak experience from this franchise. The storytelling and lore were top-notch. Following the story from mission to mission, picturing in your mind, was like reading a book with a soundtrack. So good.
I finally watched your video and i gotta say i am happy i wasn't the only one that enjoys this title i know there more people but seen someone like you talk about like this makes me tear a little cause this game is my favorite fighthing game of all time and i would love to watch Soulcalibur 7 in some future that would be awesome. A little context i remember this is the only game where i went out of my way to actually competive and actually had a awesome time, i will always remember that tournament where the creator toll us our Souls still burn, and yes is still is. If there is a SC7 one day i would love to see everything you say in this video come to life. Thank You Bro ❤
@Arturike0001 Thanks for watching bro. I'm always happy to see more and more people share the same love for the series I have, and hope we all get to experience a new Soulcalibur together. I'm glad you had a great time competing too, I would love to get involved more too
@@turbotrup96 yeah it’s just that the writers were trying so hard to be as good as the games. But hey, that Blood Vengeance movie that’s set between Tekken 5 and Tekken 6 is good, even though it’s not canon in the games. More like a filler arc.
I always wished I could play more of this series. I got to play Soul Calibur 2 some as a kid and had so much fun! In high school I even got bangs with Sophitia as my inspo lol. Playing Soul Calibur 6, I am so impressed with graphics, I love that Geralt is in it, and just makes me crave more. I hope they add other Soul Calibur games to the playstation subscription
Wow! You really did this series justice. I felt honoured to watch your entire historiography of this beloved franchise. Thank you for your in-depth insights. My classic arcade tournament fighter friends appreciate it too. The gaming world needs a SoulCalibur VII. We can only hope for a return of this series to its former glory.
Couldn't say anything better myself friend ❤ im 100% agreeing with everything you just expressed. May the soul be ignited again!! (Im currently sculpting a concept for how Lizardman will look in SC7)
96 baby here with 3 older brothers, I remember one of my early memories of gaming was playing Soul Blade on PS1. Later on in my youth I used to tell other kids in elementary school who were fans the original name was Soul Blade before Soul Caliber, they thought I was lying until I brought the game case myself 😂🤦🏾♂️
Great video, Soul Calibur is one of my Top 3 fighting game franchises. I’m no FGC guy but always love the characters and fast fluid action. Hope the franchise doesn’t die and can climb itself out the ashes.
I haven't played this game in over ten years. Back in 2000, I was at an video arcade in Shanghai and completed Soul Calibur 1(Dreamcast Version) with a record time of 42 seconds with Taki😄
There can’t be a fall if a franchise never fell, there’s still a small yet strong player base for Soul Calibur 6, it’s only on a temporary hiatus, because one day, our souls will burn once more…
Funny to hear you talk about SC4 like that. I came into the series in SC3, and took the leap to SC4 pretty smoothly. I mained Cervantes - back then, I was top tier in the online space with him. He didn't feel slow to play at all, especially once you learned how to use his Geo-De-Ray's Just Frame, when to dive forward, or dart to the walls for a rebound, or slide in for a rapid low-mid-bullet-to-the-face. I never really got into the competitive scene, but the story was okay - not lackluster but not stellar. I could even land critical finishes pretty consistently by the end of the game's lifespan. Honestly, the decline for me came after: SC5 was when I really started to feel it's decline. Five was... serviceable, but the story went straight to the gutter, and replacing fan favorite characters was a terrible idea. Viola was a lovely addition, and the reveal (though it wasn't very subtle) that Viola was Amy was an interesting one. The inclusion of Devil Jin was neat, and Ezio was an amazing inclusion, but in a series where there were traditionally more guest characters, it really felt like less attention was being given to SC. Then there was them crippling Guard Edge, and all that brought in... Six was the revival SC needed, and it hurts to see it get no love.
I was a big fan of SCV, I played so much as a teen I maxed out the online play time that was stuck at 999.99. Hell, its still my favorite fighting game. Thanks for making this video, means alot to us players who enjoyed the series!
SC4 was the only one I ever played. I think it did have kind of a slow and stiff approach, which is why Talim was my favorite, with her fast nimble fighting style. After watching this video, I'm gonna pick up SC6 and see how it compares
@@SwiftD I do some light amateur editing and I was like ohh shoot, this guy has SFX in there, the j-cuts, l-cuts, transitions, b-roll, music going in and out of dialogue, leveled audio. It's a great video. I'm happy you are proud of your work.
@@ramavalos I'm glad you noticed it all, these are things I don't expect most people to notice, and just appreciate without knowing, but it's always nice to have a fellow editor point these things out. Thanks again!
Soulcalibur 2 was incredible. Me and a friend who owned a game cube played it constantly at his place, trying out all of the characters, playing through tons of their individual campaigns etc., playing against each other a ton, of course - it was so awesome !
Want to know what's really messed up about SC5? According to an anonymous developer, the game was more or less rushed out, with 2/3s of the story mode having been cut. They planned on addressing this though by having free updates released that would add more to the game, but by the time they approached the heads of the company for approval, they denied it, saying the game was already a failure.
I'll sacrifice anything for Soul Calibur to make a comeback. Tekken is a series I never want to go back to. Soul Calibur has been a series that is more near and dear to me. And adding an RPG element to the story mode? Shut up and take my money!
Well, considering that SC6 has it's story taking plenty of cues from the Mortal Kombat Reboot Arc, I can see that there is a lot of promise on how the story of SC7 can progress from here.
If I recall correctly, the SC3 memory card glitch was caused by having certain games saved on the same card, one of them being DMC3. And it would corrupt more than just your SC3 save. I'm a little fuzzy on it right now, but I think it would create a ghost slot that prevented you from using that card to save SC3, or it would delete saves from other games as well. It's a real shame, cause we never saw original fighting styles again in the series.
I don't have the whole story, but I do know for a fact that what corrupted your SC3 save file was deleting saves from other games. I don't know for certain if any specific games caused problems, but did in fact have DMC3 saves at the time, and at some point my save data was actually corrupted without me deleting anything. However, the only issue was that it wouldn't save the game anymore, but by that point, I'd already unlocked everything. But if you deleted any other save data, that would automatically ruin your save file completely. Thankfully it never happened to me.
Guess I was fortunate to have both SC3 and DMC3 (SC3 on two memory cards, in fact, for a larger custom roster) and never had issues. It would annoy the crap out of me if I lost all my designs and had to unlock everything all over again.
i was introduced to the series by pure chance on the gamecube, my parents ONLY got it for me cause it had link in it and im glad they did, because soul calibur is easily my favorite fighting game series and i hope we get 7 someday
Despite its many flaws, SC5 did have a pretty decent competitive scene with EVO 2012 being one of the most hype top 8s that year where we saw Tira, thought to be a low tier character at the time, take the entire tournament (year of Top Tira). A really underappreciated EVO moment these days. So I do still look upon SC5 more fondly than I imagine most do but it is definitely still a VERY flawed game.
2 million units over 3 years across 3 platforms is a massive failure. That's why they cancelled season 3 for the game. The series is dead, get over it.
@@speedfreakfrank 2 million is good for fighting games The SC series is the fourth best-selling fighting game series behind the big three; it still outsells Guilty Gear, other anime fighters, and Dead or Alive for example.
It wasn't a fall it was a long agonizing death crawling on the floor, bleeding out. 2millions is so bad for such a massive title. Some indie games made more in just a month.
What an enjoyable video! This is one of my absolute favorite franchises and this video did a great job at capturing the essence of it. For me, SC6 was a great revival to the series and I put a ton of hours into it so it was quite sad for me to watch as it kind of faded into obscurity. Personally I played on PC and while I don’t think it’s the main reason the game died out, I do think that the lack of cross-platform multiplayer had a noticeable effect on the game’s community, essentially splitting it into 3 separate mini-communities (PC, Xbox, and PS). Even now I can still remember some of the big name players on PC, but I couldn’t tell you a single Xbox or PS player.
Soul Calibur 5 is the only one I LOVE because that iteration in the series finally introduced my main and the only female fighting game character I ever loved. When Bamco took her away from me, so too did my loyalty to this series. Soul Calibur 6 is the bitter end of my childhood and highschool days favorite.
@@MALICEM12 I played since 2 on GameCube with link as a guest. Granted I'm not an OG with SC1 or blade but I've played enough before 5 to know no one sticks out as unique. Since Viola exists thanks to SCV i only play her in my D&D campaigns and BG3 passionately modded. I win in the end.
Soul Calibur 2 was one of my first ever fighting games and really hooked me on the series. I have SC 2, 4, 5, and 6. I'd really love to see a 7th with the recommendations you had in the video, I'd love to see more sides of each character and see them all together interacting in a story mode!

SC6 is way better than 4 and 5, imo XD
Only loses to SC3 due to Chronicles of the Swords and unique Job styles
@@raphathekiddon't remember 4, I'll never forget paying for 5 and receiving what felt like an expensive demo. 6 was a blast though😂
4 and 5 blew. 6 is fun.
I keep praying for a SC7. This video has been a blast to watch, filled me with nostalgia
let the series die in peace they have massacre it to much already
The SC6 community projects an announcement for SC7 sometime in the next... 1-3 years or something like that. Which isn't great, but a new game is considered all but confirmed considering SC6 did much better than projected and new SC's are made using the profits from Tekken's success, and T8 is doing very well sales-wise right now.
I hope the makers can look back at the first few games and really get back to their roots regarding what made these games so amazing...and I hope the story has actual animated scenes, not just moving pics. For example more like the new Mortal kombat 1 story
@symbiotex1751 yeah I disagree with that

Soul Calibur 6 is one of the best modern fighting games gameplay wise. Season 2 was a well balanced blast with fantastic dlc additions. I am hopeful that the series can reach a new audience with rollback in the future
Nah Tekken 8 is the best
Geralt and 2B were fantastic guest characters.
The gameplay was interesting but honestly it used to have so much more personality and the online barely worked in sc6 you’d be lucky to actually connect to your opponents as well as most features being from 4 or 5
One move ruined the whole game though?

Soul Calibur 2 on Game Cube with Link was the peak of the series for me. Also, I remember playing the Japanese version of Soul Blade and Voldo’s meat would be flinging around while he performed extremely suspect attacks on his opponents. Crazy stuff man.

Soul Calibur is one of the best games of all time. That game single handedly made me a fan, and I've played every game since.

And thank you so much for showing the original games before Soul calibur 2 because i never got to see those games until today! Thank you so much for reminding me how much I loved this game. I miss Soul Calibur 2 so much. I loved playing as Link on Gamecube ! What a crazy time in gaming history
Ps I have subscribed:)
😢 I feel you.
Im glad you mentioned soul edge, everyone always forgets that one
That 1st sentence - same. 4 would've been perfect if our clothing/armor didn't determine our created characters' health in gameplay.
That soul caliber 2 intro hit different. This was my first soul caliber game and I remember being a 12 year old kid losing my mind 🥰
This video is the definition of quality. Please do more of any other video gane titles you wish. I will watch it.
Thank you! I have a lot more ideas for videos like this, and I've been working hard on my next big project that should be coming out soon.
I have a similar memory, me and my father would play together on weekends.

Such a great video for a great series. I loved the announcer voice adding such epic tone to the whole game. The mechanics of this game made it so fun to play. I felt like a real swordsman learning to use Mitsurugi hahaha I really loved Soul Caliber 2 the best of all.

The internet ruined many good things...
Yeah it was definitely an amazing era
@@EximiusDuxyour arcade experience was shallow. The competition in arcade stores can get hectic, especially here in South Africa you could get chased at knife point as a 6 year old..ask me how I know😅🙇🏿♂️

It's not, I think it had the best pacing out of all the games. It's critical system is far superior to the garbage meter moves in 5 and 6, it was to force you to participate in the fight and take risks instead of block all day.

Reversal Edge's rock-paper-scissors nonsense was such a drag on SoulCalibur VI, I'm surprised it wasn't mentioned until 44:08
yeah that killed it for me at the time, every match was RE into ulti, Im sure you can counter it somehow but if I cant manage to find out 90% of casuals wont either. only thing that really worked was spamming lightning moves from afar.
@@MaoMavofr
@@MaoMavoit was pretty easy to counter, Reverse Edges are very telegraphed and are vertical attacks so you can just side step and punish.
@@Slender_Man_186 sure but casuals just spam buttons and when you do this all you get is RE which builds meter for super, your average game will just be a string of the same mediocre cutscenes.

Soul Calibur has some of the best lore and storytelling of any fighting game
Damn right
I feel like an oddball in that my top three are probably SC, DOA & SF..
@@RoyArkon What about Samurai Shodown, Darkstalkers and Guilty Gear?

S2 was peak SC. The fall is casuals wanting come back mechanics, rage art and collisions, but I don't think it's dead. There will be another.
Tell that to Soulcalibur V having those mechanics and still being a failure
@@yunjin909 That was because the new director wanted it to be more like Street Fighter...
Bingo this when i knew it was going downhill i bought sc4 and took it back the next day
This, I hope SC7 is more bare bones and doesn't have all the stupid mechanics 6 had
Soulcalibur 2 was incredible. Me and a friend who owned a game cube played it constantly at his place, trying out all of the characters, playing through tons of their individual campaigns etc., playing against each other a ton, of course - it was so awesome !
this was a great video. What a trip down memory lane... also very informative! damn good job
Soul Calibur is criminally underrated, man.
Much as I hate the entire franchise except for 5. Yeah. It should've been at least on par with Tekken by this point.
@@StyleshStormeven if u dont like the series u liked 5? Why lol
My respects to you a TRUE FAN of this game serie; the love you have for this game is felt in every word in every frame ;)
This is a great video! I saw it posted on a steam forum and it caught my interest
Soul edge was a perfect game in my opinion. Especially for the time. I can still sit down and play this game for hours with my brother.
Sc4 needs a remastered
If I recall correctly, the SC3 memory card glitch was caused by having certain games saved on the same card, one of them being DMC3. And it would corrupt more than just your SC3 save. I'm a little fuzzy on it right now, but I think it would create a ghost slot that prevented you from using that card to save SC3, or it would delete saves from other games as well.
It's a real shame, cause we never saw original fighting styles again in the series.
I seem to remember something along those lines too, this save would mess up other unrelated saves.
Pretty much, you needed to have a separate memory card dedicated solely to SC3 to play it without risking your data getting wiped.
What's DMC3? I'm out of the loop and don't know that acronym lol
Team battle and the fluid movement and reaction time made Soul Calibur 2 favorite. So much fun.
i was introduced to the series by pure chance on the gamecube, my parents ONLY got it for me cause it had link in it and im glad they did, because soul calibur is easily my favorite fighting game series and i hope we get 7 someday
Soulcalibur deserved better
Despite its many flaws, SC5 did have a pretty decent competitive scene with EVO 2012 being one of the most hype top 8s that year where we saw Tira, thought to be a low tier character at the time, take the entire tournament (year of Top Tira). A really underappreciated EVO moment these days. So I do still look upon SC5 more fondly than I imagine most do but it is definitely still a VERY flawed game.
Sould Calibur 6 sold 2 million units by July 2021. There's not such a thing as "the fall of Soul Calibur".
2 million units over 3 years across 3 platforms is a massive failure. That's why they cancelled season 3 for the game. The series is dead, get over it.
@@speedfreakfrank damn, who pissed in your cheerios?
@@speedfreakfrank not according to Bandai Namco
@@speedfreakfrank 2 million is good for fighting games The SC series is the fourth best-selling fighting game series behind the big three; it still outsells Guilty Gear, other anime fighters, and Dead or Alive for example.
It wasn't a fall it was a long agonizing death crawling on the floor, bleeding out.
2millions is so bad for such a massive title.
Some indie games made more in just a month.
That Soul Calibur 2 intro still to this day is one of the greatest fighting game intros ever made.
Oh boohoo the game with an entirely different cast didn't last. US real fans actually want the main cast
@@MALICEM12 I played since 2 on GameCube with link as a guest. Granted I'm not an OG with SC1 or blade but I've played enough before 5 to know no one sticks out as unique.
I actually didn't like the roster of 5 except for one new woman with magic.
It doesn't matter anymore though.
Since Viola exists thanks to SCV i only play her in my D&D campaigns and BG3 passionately modded.
I win in the end.
5 was so mf live
Soul Calibur 2 was one of my first ever fighting games and really hooked me on the series. I have SC 2, 4, 5, and 6. I'd really love to see a 7th with the recommendations you had in the video, I'd love to see more sides of each character and see them all together interacting in a story mode!
love the editing, plus this video brought back good memories! the only Soulcalibur games i got to play was 2 and 6 but i had a great time with them and was able to play 6 with my loved ones. Tira is my favorite character to play, absolutely love her playstyle and character.
i really hope we get 7 in the future, i would hate for this title to die off when it has great potential.
I still get chills watching that SC2 intro. Absolutely loved that game. Even kept the disc after I sold my GameCube!
Soulcalibur is my favorite fighting game series of all time, I really hope they make a new one. SC6 was really smooth and while V is hated I love it, IV is kinda dead but still fun especially with the Star Wars characters and I hope it isn’t forgotten
