@@JakeSloan yeah i had a couple of good flights then i was waking inside and dropped ok controller on accident and it has a message about the remote controller control error and when it connects it is stuck where the gimbal camera just goes up automatically
hahahaha this thread made my night! cheers gents, Ive been through Calgary quite a few times and in fact I spend my first 2 years of school just north of there!
I did! both times it was just long enough to film what was needed for a TV show up in the area and then onto the next spot. Fantastic place I'd love to come spend a few days exploring
Thanks Jake! Another great, informative video. Any thoughts or advice regarding flying while it's snowing and any effect or harm to the drone? Your stuff always looks fantastic, thanks for sharing!
Thanks David, so long as snow isnt melting onto the drone its fine, if some does then I always dry the drone and controller off with a soft cloth immediately after
Hello Jake and greetings from Colombia. I living at Berlín Paramo (higth mountain 10.000 ft or 3200 m). This place is cooler, but the principal problem is the air density and the low pression. Your videos are very fantastics and useful. Thanks.
Acclimating the drone temperature is a top tip. QUESTION: The arms on Mavic 3/Cine/Classic are aluminum or an alloy. Has that effected it's cold temp & precipitation handling in any observable way? I had to figure out what that insane enclosed ATV was. At first I thought: Sherp? Nope. I found it. FatTruck is a beast!
Quick question - the problem with my dji mini 3 pro is that, a layer of super thin yet heavy ice starts forming around each of the propellers making it a bit heavier and difficult to fly and I get a warning of motor overload. Please help.
hi Jake, hello from Budapest, Hungary :) I am so glad and happy that I found your video, now I feel much more confident to fly my drone... I do not plan to fly during snow fall but one thing remained in my mind... what about the possible freeze/ice generated on the props? Sometimes I heard that based on the fact that props are circulating the air around it will be colder and there might be possible tiny ice on the edge of the props which may influence the flying attitude (not altitude :D ) Many thanks for your kind answer in advance and it was a pleasure to see those beautiful please in Alaska so so far away from me, here in the heart of Europe :) Cheers, Edward
I usually just tilt the camera down 45 degrees or a tad more when flying in snowfall. Flying backwards everywhere just gets awkward. If i get any snow on the filter... Usually flying in sport tends to just blow it off. Never had an issue.. Anyways, Loved the video,Jake. Cheers.
Thanks for the tips Jake. So, I flew my Mavic 3 Pro today in a heavy snow and all went well ? Is it waterproof ? Have you had drones go down shooting in snowfall ? I was really surprised and went through almost 2 batteries..pushed the limit, but all ok. 24 degrees..
I have a question about my air question my air 3 when downloading footage I powered up I accidentally forgot about the gimble guard and it was still on at power up. When I realized it Immediately i took it off. I checked stabilization and it still worked. My question is did I ruin the the gimble by forgetting that one time?
@JakeSloan I have a another question, I flew it at nite didn't know obstacle avoidness sensors don't work then. My battery was 30%. :all of sudden without no low battery warning it tried to come home and in doing so so it crashed. Why didn't low battery warning sound? Any ideas? Thanks?
I mean how to load the camera to the phone. I just bought this drone is the first one. I can't figure out how the instructions I wish I could email it to you.
This is crucial information!! Mahalo NUI(Thank you BIG) for sharing this, sir. I’ll definitely remember these tips for next time. I was not able to fly the last time I was in Anchorage. I mean it was -21° would that have been too cold? I did not want to risk it. By the way, there are times where I do reference some of your older videos to help me.🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
Fantastic Tips! Just got my drone this summer, DJI 3. Im to new to even think of hand launch and release, I’m definitely going practice that today 👍 got land pads for summer but i need diverse techniques and pointers such as this video for winter especially
North Face do a fluffy glove ‘Osito’ with E-tip fingertips that work on smartphones. They’re women’s, so check for sizing. They fit my big man hands, tho!
@@JakeSloansaying that…..you reminded me of a good hack of using those ‘hand warmer’ sachets. The trick is to not put them on our hands, but rather have it inside our clothes, close to our heart or kidney area. (Not directly on our skin). This warms our core. The ones you showed stay hot for up to twelve hours!!
To a point yes. However if they get too cold the drone will not take off at all due to low voltage and I have flown in cold enough temps to see battery temperatures drop as I was flying so I had to stop and let them warm back up every so often
I’ve been flying drones now for several years and the “acclimating” tip is one that i never really thought of! Very cool tips!
Glad it was helpful!
I especially like the tip on flying backwards, totally makes sense! Great tips, Jake, thanks!
Thank you so much Mark!
Good snow storm coming in tonight. Going out in the morning to catch first light over the bay. Good tips, thanks
same i’m in missouri and it’s coming down hard here
waiting for the wind to die down and i’m
gonna send it
Just watch out for icing on the propellers. If the snow and the air temp are around freezing and or there is fog then watch out!

good video and tips... being in Calgary, AB Canada... winter weather goes from November to April here... winter flying procedures are a must... 👍

So cinematic while snowing! 🙂
right? not planned but worked out well lol

Oh Jake can you please show a video how to program a camera drone? Thanks I love you videos.
Program it to do what exactly? I have a few videos about setup and settings on specific drones if that's what you mean

Just to set up the camera
The procedure you got to do

FatTrucks are beasts! I haven't seen any difference on handling at all so far in the cold
Jake nice B roll of Marquette! What were you doing up there or was that some b roll you found?
Thanks!! I was up there filming some pick up shots for a TV show episode I filmed in the area and over in WI
@@JakeSloan nice! Well i used to live up there and was SHOCKED to see the lower harbor in this video i stumbled upon. Keep crushing it
Hey, you didn't tell us where to get that truck! 🤣Good tips, thanks!
hahahahaha thanks
Solid tip and reminders! I haven't tried this, but heard that wiping WD-40 on the props will keep ice from forming - anyone here tried that yet?
that will help some but I only really see it necessary if you are flying in temps that are right at freezing and it's raining or snowing
will the snow get into the propeller motors since they are uncovered?
yes but it will not affect them unless it is freezing rain type of snow/rain mix
Great tips Jake
Thanks!

I do run into that as well from time to time and unfortunately you just cannot fly then

it is possible and always something to watch for. keep your flights short and close and frequently check for ice build up.

If you have your batteries charging in your bag. Would this be sufficient in keeping them warm enough?
I keep warmers in my bag to keep the batteries warm
Hi Jake....What steered you to Artlist for music ? I am trying Audiio at the moment.
I started using artlist because they were the only ones who allowed both TH-cam/social Media licensing and commercial use on the same plan early on.
No mention of ice on the propellers?
I talk about how to avoid that
Yeah I just bricked mine at over 300 feet. Fell like a stone outta the sky.
What kind of vehicle is that? It looks a bit like a modern version of the Volvo Puppy. 🤔
That’s a Fat truck and they are made for arctic and very off-road work

i always say if its to cold for me its to cold for my drone.
LOL thats not a bad way to go about it
One time I flew my drone in the cold and the arms froze during flight.
I made an emergency landing 1.2 miles away
oh wow
These batteries get so hot it doesn't matter how cold it is as long as you're using it
To a point yes. However if they get too cold the drone will not take off at all due to low voltage and I have flown in cold enough temps to see battery temperatures drop as I was flying so I had to stop and let them warm back up every so often
I definitely don't recommend keep the batteries in your pocket
you have to keep them somewhere warm
@JakeSloan I understand, but isn't a bad idea to carry a lithium battery in your pocket?
You definitely don't want snow inside your usb c ports, it melts and can short the circuitry inside your devices, just cost me 1100 dollars.
agreed!
