"My best friend Margaret was in the hospital at Vanderbilt Hospital. She was being tested to see if she was strong enough to get a liver transplant due to cancer in her liver. She was having a test ran and I couldn’t be there because my 5-year-old daughter was having surgery at Vanderbilt children’s. Margaret had a reaction to her rest, so Olivia, her nurse, stayed with her while I was taking care of my daughter. When I returned to Vanderbilt to be with Margaret, she told me about an angel that was taking care of her. That angel was Ms. Olivia and she sang the song to Margaret over and over. She learned it just for Ms. Margaret. I videoed Ms. Olivia singing it to Margaret. I was crying the whole time she was singing it. Ms. Margaret found out she was too sick to get the transplant. The doctors then gave Ms. Margaret just days to live. She passed 9 days later. It was a beautiful moment when I videoed Ms. Olivia singing that to Ms.Margaret. It was just so touching and a beautiful thing to witness a nurse taking care of her patients in that manner. I was friends with Ms. Margaret for 17 years."

When I was a hospice nurse I sang to my patients. I loved every minute of my calling (it's more than a job). Bless all the terminally ill and those who love and care for them.

I pray all nurses have this type of compassion they see death more than a normal person and their hearts might get cold or immune to their patient's. Thats why God said he would remove our hearts of stone and give us one of flesh. Thank you to all the nurse's.
They don't see more death than anyone. Yes we see death often but it's the morticians that see more death than anyone.

@@dylanbatchelor9434 Morticians are never there at the moment a person passes. They deal with the results of death but they don't see the death itself. Prepping a body for a funeral is nothing like being there when someone you have been caring for dies, like nurses.

My nanna looked just like that old lady, she passed last year and thankfully had lovely young nurses like these two who really started caring for her like she was family. They'd visit on days off with their kids and cakes made for my nan and more. Nurses like this are so important at this stage in life. Nothing is ever certain or promised. You get one life, live it as my nanna would say.

Times like this, I wish I could work in the medical field. I'm 33 years old and I'm going to try and go back to school. I would love to sit by someone's side and brighten up their mood, even if it's only for a few minutes
littleangels85 you don't have to go to school, get the title, or achieve any task to be the type of person that nurse chooses to be. You can make a difference for many people in the grocery store, office, or spend a little time volunteering in a situation similar to this. If it's in your heart you can make a difference anywhere.

My advice is to do it, when I did my training over 15 years ago, there were women in their 50's training. You've got life experience which is an added benefit and you seem to really want to do it. Training isn't easy but just keep remembering your goal

This is so sweet. I remember when I heard this song at my moms funeral home. My mom got shot in her own house while me and my siblings were at school. She passed away September 11th 2017. When I watch this I think of my mom. We there are people out there that really need people like y'all to help them. We love you. Thank you for this video.
Gabrielle I'm so very sorry for the tragic loss of your mom I read this thinking kind of crazy my mom will have been gone a year now September 15th and I played this at her funeral it brings me comfort and I too love it so much just know in heaven they don't feel sadness hurt pain anything but extreme happiness happiness for the day that you get called home and you join your mom again because our lifetime here on Earth is so short but are forever in heaven is never having to say goodbye please hold on to that God bless
I do this same type of work and its very hard but very rewarding too. At the end of the day if you can make one of them smile then you have done your job. Bless them all.

When I was a nursing assistant and it was so hard not to get attached to our residents. You care for someone day in and day out and it creates a bond. Losing patients and residents is the hardest part
The ones who did this is wonderful people I was a nurse and best part of it was being able to show love and care to others and making there last few days peaceful and not sad and lonely great job keep up that compassion and respect for others......

Unfortunately nurses don't have this kind of time to care for their patients. This must have been a special unit, ( low nurse to patient ratio). I was a hospital nurse for 15 years. I had this kind of time in the beginning but as the hospitals started running like businesses it became profit over patient care. On any given night I would be given 10 or more patients to care for in an 8 hour period! Needless to say I didn't even have time to use the restroom much less sing to a patient. 1997 I burned out. Started having anxiety and panic attacks. I was afraid that I would harm someone because I was too busy to even think straight. Had to quit for my own sanity.

When she said don't cry sweetie i cried aww its so sad to sit there and want to make the best for her knowing she wont make it it just made me cry has to be hard and takes alot of emotional strength id cry at every patient i saw

Amen. I was 16 when I had my first patient pass. I would ride the bus from school to work, so I always had a few minutes free before I had to clock in. I always stopped in to one room and chatted with the tiny little lady there. One afternoon I stopped in, and unfortunately she had passed peacefully sitting in her chair. Nothing prepares you for how heartbreaking it is. You really do get attached to them.

When my grandma was in hospice, the nurses were so wonderful to both my grandma and to our family. It was very hard losing her as she was my last remaining grandparent but the hospice workers made things a little easier due to their compassion. I’ll always be grateful to them.
