Andy you need to to get the shaft welded and turned mate back to original spec thats far easier and more professional and you will be ok for a good 20-30 k miles, yours is leaking because of wear on the shaft which has damaged the seal, i have been a engineer for over 30 years and you don't use a drill to bore out a casing for a bearing bush or oil seals we use a reamer, because a drill doesn't drill a round hole, i have built a few LCs over the years just make sure the gearbox breather pipe is clear too, as this will give extra pressure on seals, hope this helps

As I was watching, I thought "I wonder if you could ream it ?"
I suppose you would need at least 2 or more bits : to take it up in 0.5mm increments.

@@vinm300 remmer will give you a round hole and to a perfect diameter, as you know a drill will give you a oval hole

Very informative vid. Japanese seals always seem to wear the shafts rather than the seals themselves

Hi Andy, I hope you dont mind me asking. I have a 73 Yamaha RD350, there is a long Story to it and I'm sure you are not interested but I have 2 question first I'll say the bike sat for 5 years, it died on me and I put it away, it sat for 5 years. So it is leaking injector oil (I do not pre mix) out of the left side crank seal, 2 questions, how does injector oil (i'm sure is injector oil) leak down in to the crank? Can the left side crank seal be replaced with out splitting the cases. Thank you for your time. Cheers Karl Squire.

Hi Andy, i have the older non LC version which is also seeping transmission oil while stood over winter is this likely to be the same culprit/cause?

Do you do engine rebuilds for customers ?
