I like to believe that Guilmon using the White Wings was foreshadowing for when he was given HIS OWN white wings when Grani gave Gallantmon the power to go Crimson Mode
Terriermon with Thor's Hammer will always be my favorite. It's cute to see something small try to use a big weapon, but it is also funny to see how little effect it actually had.
@@minicle426 agreed. Aside from sleipmon and valkyriemon, the norse pantheon is mostly untouched. Would love to see a new group like the royal knights or olympus twelve with norse themed members. I could see thormon being a jogress between vikemon and hercules kabuterimon. Like vikemon but more humanoid and clad in gold bug armor and wielding both vikemons ice powers and herculeskabuterimons electrical abilities with its huge hammer thats been upgraded to gold chrome digizoid to match the color of his armor.
I'll never forget the episode when Leomon was in a battle and Jerri said "Lady-Devimon Activate" and then Leomon does a big roar as he gets somewhat briefly possessed by Lady-Devimon.
I always LOVED Digimodify and the card slash sequence was something I think we all tried to replicate. I hard agree on wishing they could have changed the appearance of Digimon a bit like Snimon or even more than that!
The digi modify mechanic was another thing that made season 3 stand out more than the previous and even future seasons. It incorporated a card game mechanic that existed in that world, it felt like you can add stuff to your partner and it expanded upon the world. It does suck that it was only used very very sparingly in later episodes and was ignored but it was still a really cool gimmick and it helps that everyone could do it and it isn't just relegated to just the main character. In any case nice list Karn!
Digimodify was so good because it really makes the Tamers part of what's going on. The Digimon are fighting, but I allows the kids to be strategists, and to actually impact what's going on. Really wish Kazu had gotten really into using cards with Guardromon since he was so into the game, would have really let him be relevant without digivolutions instead of just an afterthought.
If the next digimon anime uses the physical card game, I hope we get another system like digi-modify, and they go all in on it. I know that it wasn't really possible for the bio-merges to have the digi-modifies, but imagine if WarGrowlmon had those drills, or Rika used a digi-modify to give Taomon ZeedGarurumon's cannon!
White Wings Guilmon is my absolute favorite Digi Modify. To the point where my Gallantmon deck uses 4 copies of the alt art Guilmon with his white wings
If they ever remake the series I would love to see them expand more on digimodify. I think adding the part of a digimon would be some cool aesthetic additions to the partners. Even in mega forms. You can't tell me that an Omnimon card slash on Gallantmon or a Omnimon merciful mode card on Saint Galgomon would not be amazing

Instead, I'm really fond of it because of how it foreshadows the arrival of Crimson Mode. Throughout the series, Guilmon makes a lot of comments about flying and the wings are very much a precursor to the arrival of Grani, which is itself a precursor to Crimson Mode.
I’ve always loved digimodify, the idea that you can give your Digimon abilities they don’t naturally have to get an edge in combat will never not fascinate me. The fact that the Tamers could give their partners the abilities and attacks of OTHER Digimon was an amazing idea. A Digimon partner that has no inherent flying capability can be given that ability, the ability to restrain their opponent, they could have even make it so that whatever you could do in the card game the Tamer could do in their actual battles. They could’ve flat make it so a Tamers knowledge of the card game gave them a HUGE leg up in fights, Rika was a Digimon Card Game Champion right? They easily could’ve made it so her knowledge of the game allowed her and Renamon fight Champion level Digimon even though Renamon is a Rookie level. Hell, digimodify could let them fight Digimon at least one whole level above their Digimon if they used the right cards and/or work together as a team. THE POSSIBILITIES!!! I need to find a site where I can watch Digimon Tamers again, I have that need again. My memories of Digimon get foggier and foggier the more time passes. Tamers also had my favorite method of obtaining Mega level for partner Digimon, ACTUALLY FUSING WITH THEIR PARTNER!!!

Gosh, I love the idea of this gimmick so much, even if it doesn't lead to any flashy or over the top forms, but it gives a whole new layer in every situation they face, and gives the humans a lot more to do in the action instead of just sit there rooting from the sidelines.

I loved digimodify, it really gave a strategy to a fight where digivolving wasn't always the way to win. Besides them using the one dedigivolve card on rapidmon and taomon, I don't think the ultimates really got to use digimodify sadly
Thinking about this makes me think they could have done a cross wars type thing, where you can use multiple digimodifies to create a stronger "form". Like Use the aero wing digimodify with the steel drill digimodify, and other things to create forms that let a rookie fight and match a champion. They could have explored the costs of the evolutions more, like if i remember right wasn't there a point cost or something for each card? like have it where evolutions costed alot of points but you could get forms nearly as powerful that costed less, but would last a shorter duration, or some other draw back by stacking digimodifies.
I’m honestly shocked Jeri’s Digi-modify didn’t make the list, no one else did jack against Orochimon (did they Rika???) but thanks to *her* Leomon was able to put him down. They could have been great, they DESERVED to be great together! But because a certain fox couldn’t accept the purple runt turned emo biker had gone evil and WANTED THEM ALL dead Leomon had to save her (why? Cyberdramon and Terriermon are my favorites in Tamers, the Knight card that gave Cyberdramon two lances could inspire a mode change for Cyberdramon, if Cyberdramon had his own mode change would he have wings and tail from Cyberdramon X and possibly energy lances like what Gallantmon X has.
Honestly, white wings gets a minor plus-point for me because it references/gets referenced later on by Dukemon Crimson Mode, or at least its wings feel like a callback to that. The DigiModify that stayed the most in my mind though, even though I'm not sure I'd say it's my favorite, is Leomon using the LadyDevimon-card against Orochimon. I don't think it was really that iconic of a moment but for some reason it just stayed in my head, maybe it's because I also really liked the episode, I don't even know if I already knew about the myth it so clearly is based on at that point.

Takato uses his more to enhance Guilmon's already monstrous combat capabilities, Henry prefers to try and pacify his enemies so prefers to use less combat oriented the cards, and Rika leans heavily into attack power enhancing cards.
Since you brought up cosmoman, i think a cool video idea would be to give the Battle Network Operators digimon partners that also work alongside their NetNavis

I really wished this feature was brought back to stuff like the VB or Vpets. Wouldn't hurt if they made an arcade card game where you could collect modify cards as well as Digimon cards that can be used in the arcade game, similar to stuff like Mushiking.
That actually made me feel in love with digimon + tamers was my first season so seeing it as a kid it was like love at first sight (especially the white wing for guilmon)
I always thought the Aero Wing card was from Airdramon, not AeroVeedramon! I’m glad to make this mistake because AeroVeedramon is amazing, not that Airdramon isn’t, but… champion vs Ultimate Digimon and AeroVeedramon linking back to a branched Digivolution of Veemon, so there’s that. It's nice that there seems to be some consistency on who owns which card when you see them reused. I know this is probably never going to happen, but given the success of the newest Digimon Card Game (North America showed up on Bandai's fiscal review!) it just seems like there is no better time to reboot Tamers a la Adventure 2020. Adventure is the most popular among casual fans, but Tamers is definitely the most well received amongst Digimon fans. The obvious problems being that if they haven't already started production, they may miss the momentum that the TGC currently holds, and for... some reason or another, Chiaki Konaka may not be involved in such a project. Hey, future video idea?
I allowed Digi Modify in a Digimon tabletop and it led to some awesome moments. My favorite was my buddy using a Volcamon card so his Agumon would scream death metal into a microphone
"War Greymon's Brave Shield" was definitely my favorite. I'd have loved to see a lot more of Digi-Modify. Even if the main 4 had Biomerge, Kenta, Kazu and the rest could've kept using Digi-Modify.
One of the missable aspects of Digi-Modify in Tamers was that each Character was using Cards they would've Owned already: Rika uses mostly Digimon to have Renamon perform their Attacks; Takato plays Enhancement Cards to give additional benefits; and Henry mostly uses Equipment Cards to offset Terriermon's relatively low Attack Power. Ryo and Suzie don't bring many Digi-Modify Cards into battle, so the few they use are more General Use in nature - the Device Cards do just that, and Suzie likely had hers given from Ryo. I don't remember Jeri getting to use Digi-Modify before the 'Incident', so I wouldn't know what she'd have used if she began playing...
Digi-Modify was one of the coolest parts of Tamers, augmenting the Digimon's abilities in a way no other series really did after that. It's a shame it got less utilized once Ultimate and Mega levels came around.
Very nice vid! Here's a thought: What if, in the midst of a Digimon digivolving, their tamer use 1 (or more) Digimodify cards which, in turn, corrupts the evolution and make a new Digivolution? Kinda like when Palmon digivolves into Panchomon in Digimon 2020.
I'm surprised the White Wings didn't get used later in the series since I feel like it was intentional foreshadowing for Gallantmon/Dukemon Crimson Mode. It would've been fun to see them slap em on Growlmon at least

Digi-Modify was such a cool gimmick. I do get that once the digimon achieved their ultimates that this gimmick started to go as they no longer needed it for battles and by that point they were too preoccupied with fighting mostly the Devas. Even though the ones where they used an attack of a digimon weren't all featured here, I'd still give honorable to mention to Jeri using the LadyDevimon card on Leomon. It was such a cool moment seeing Leomon literally decimate Orochimon with an ultimate-level attack. On top of that it was one of Jeri's big defining moments from the whole show and seeing her become a very capable Tamer (albeit briefly).
Hi, I think it would be an intersting idea to make a list of Digimon that could be Asura counterparts to the Devas (in mythology the Asuras are enemies to the Yaksas known as Devas), I know Asuramon is the only actual Asura Digimon but I think other Demon Digimon could work, Vritramon to Indaramon (their inspirations are enemies in Hindu mythology), Taomon to Vajramon (due to their battle in Tamers) and Baalmon to Makuramon (you know why 🤯☠️).
Concept for a Tamers Reboot, the Digimodify cards act as a sort of Digiegg/Digimental, like how the coloured cards unlocked their potential, the digimodify cards could turn a guilmon into a greymon; a renamon into a garurumon; and a terriermon into a prariemon or dogmon. Just like there were alternate evolution lines in Adventure: you could have alternate lines for the tamers, possibly even giving the group chances to become the devas, maybe giving Jeri the chance to have a bond with her elecmon, before using a digimodify to save the others, ultimately resulting in the ceremonial Leomon death.
Even though it wasn't physically expressive seeing Leomon engulfed in that evil aura and then uses Ladydevimon's attack was awesome. It was also kind off a foreshadowing of sorts, Leomon using a devil digimon's power, only for later in the series to have his own power be absorbed and then later used by an actual demon lord.
I think white wings actually get a surprising call back in gallantmon crimson mode. Pretty sure its the same amount and evrrything. Hell wouldnt surprise me if crimson mode was conceived after initially simply having gallantmon use the classic guilmon white wings and liking the look.
Dang, my number 1 didn't even make the list. LadyDevimon! I know it's not much of a visual change - just glowing red eyes - but first off Jeri using it is great, how chill Leomon is after commiting murder, the absolute contrast between Leomon, LadyDevimon, and Jeri, and the absolute devastation of Leomon spitting out Darkness Wave. I'm all about it.
a series that combined the digimodify concept say with the gladiator concept for the original Frontier series would be a fun season to explore...like beating a Digimon gets you more data or digimodify pieces
What I would of liked to see is if one of the tamers combo two modify cards together. Such as, Rika using White Wings + Thor's Hammer modify cards as a combo for Renamon. Imagine Renamon flying with White Wings while armed with Thor's Hammer.
I can’t believe it took all these years to realize that the White Wings Card being so tied to Guilmon might be why Gallantmon Crimson mode gets those same White Wings.
A potential custom art video idea, what if digimon fusions occurred naturally? Like, Greymon + Mailbirdramon = Metalgreymon, which already exists. So what if other fusions had preexisting naturally occurring variants? (Zekegreymon comes to mind.)
I don't know why, but I was expecting you to put digivolution somewhere on this list. Digivolution is a Digi modify card, so I'm surprised you didn't mention it. Also, since you mentioned Megaman Battle Network, you have to do a list of your top 10 favorite Netnavis. I need to know who your favorites are!
It wasn't until relatively recently that I realized the white wings card was meant to evoke, or at least leads into, Crimson Mode at the end of the series. So i don't really mind that it's not based on another digimon, or that it's not used by any one other than Takato and Guilmon.
My problem with the card slashing thing was mostly that there didn't seem to be any rules associated with it. On Number 4, is the Queen Device actually a separate card from the King Device? IIRC Ryo said that only a very powerful Tamer can use the King Device safely, and when he later gifts Suzie a card, I somehow remember it being the King Device card (which she just calls Queen Device to better suit herself). Which I saw as a subtle indicator that Ryo sees a lot of potential in Suzie.

i forgot how versatile the gimmicks in tamers was, makes me want to rewatch them
It's nice that there seems to be some consistency on who owns which card when you see them reused.
I know this is probably never going to happen, but given the success of the newest Digimon Card Game (North America showed up on Bandai's fiscal review!) it just seems like there is no better time to reboot Tamers a la Adventure 2020.
Adventure is the most popular among casual fans, but Tamers is definitely the most well received amongst Digimon fans.
The obvious problems being that if they haven't already started production, they may miss the momentum that the TGC currently holds, and for... some reason or another, Chiaki Konaka may not be involved in such a project.

I allowed Digi Modify in a Digimon tabletop and it led to some awesome moments. My favorite was my buddy using a Volcamon card so his Agumon would scream death metal into a microphone
"War Greymon's Brave Shield" was definitely my favorite. I'd have loved to see a lot more of Digi-Modify. Even if the main 4 had Biomerge, Kenta, Kazu and the rest could've kept using Digi-Modify.
One of the missable aspects of Digi-Modify in Tamers was that each Character was using Cards they would've Owned already: Rika uses mostly Digimon to have Renamon perform their Attacks; Takato plays Enhancement Cards to give additional benefits; and Henry mostly uses Equipment Cards to offset Terriermon's relatively low Attack Power.
Ryo and Suzie don't bring many Digi-Modify Cards into battle, so the few they use are more General Use in nature - the Device Cards do just that, and Suzie likely had hers given from Ryo. I don't remember Jeri getting to use Digi-Modify before the 'Incident', so I wouldn't know what she'd have used if she began playing...
There was one episode that I remember where Jeri card slashed LadyDevimon and ended up giving Leomon the "Darkness Wave" attack...
Digi-Modify was one of the coolest parts of Tamers, augmenting the Digimon's abilities in a way no other series really did after that. It's a shame it got less utilized once Ultimate and Mega levels came around.

Very nice vid! Here's a thought: What if, in the midst of a Digimon digivolving, their tamer use 1 (or more) Digimodify cards which, in turn, corrupts the evolution and make a new Digivolution? Kinda like when Palmon digivolves into Panchomon in Digimon 2020.
My personal favorite was when Jeri used the LadyDevimon card to digimodify Leomon and how shook everyone was.
I'm surprised the White Wings didn't get used later in the series since I feel like it was intentional foreshadowing for Gallantmon/Dukemon Crimson Mode. It would've been fun to see them slap em on Growlmon at least
Honestly this is how I would love to see the card game be pulled into an anime , your different colored digimon either digivoling or taking on essences of other mons of the same color
Digi-Modify was such a cool gimmick. I do get that once the digimon achieved their ultimates that this gimmick started to go as they no longer needed it for battles and by that point they were too preoccupied with fighting mostly the Devas. Even though the ones where they used an attack of a digimon weren't all featured here, I'd still give honorable to mention to Jeri using the LadyDevimon card on Leomon. It was such a cool moment seeing Leomon literally decimate Orochimon with an ultimate-level attack. On top of that it was one of Jeri's big defining moments from the whole show and seeing her become a very capable Tamer (albeit briefly).

Hi, I think it would be an intersting idea to make a list of Digimon that could be Asura counterparts to the Devas (in mythology the Asuras are enemies to the Yaksas known as Devas), I know Asuramon is the only actual Asura Digimon but I think other Demon Digimon could work, Vritramon to Indaramon (their inspirations are enemies in Hindu mythology), Taomon to Vajramon (due to their battle in Tamers) and Baalmon to Makuramon (you know why 🤯☠️).

Concept for a Tamers Reboot, the Digimodify cards act as a sort of Digiegg/Digimental, like how the coloured cards unlocked their potential, the digimodify cards could turn a guilmon into a greymon; a renamon into a garurumon; and a terriermon into a prariemon or dogmon.
Just like there were alternate evolution lines in Adventure: you could have alternate lines for the tamers, possibly even giving the group chances to become the devas, maybe giving Jeri the chance to have a bond with her elecmon, before using a digimodify to save the others, ultimately resulting in the ceremonial Leomon death.
Even though it wasn't physically expressive seeing Leomon engulfed in that evil aura and then uses Ladydevimon's attack was awesome. It was also kind off a foreshadowing of sorts, Leomon using a devil digimon's power, only for later in the series to have his own power be absorbed and then later used by an actual demon lord.
I think white wings actually get a surprising call back in gallantmon crimson mode. Pretty sure its the same amount and evrrything. Hell wouldnt surprise me if crimson mode was conceived after initially simply having gallantmon use the classic guilmon white wings and liking the look.

I also love the cards that let the Digimon use another Digimon's body parts, so it can use that Digimon's attack.
Dang, my number 1 didn't even make the list. LadyDevimon! I know it's not much of a visual change - just glowing red eyes - but first off Jeri using it is great, how chill Leomon is after commiting murder, the absolute contrast between Leomon, LadyDevimon, and Jeri, and the absolute devastation of Leomon spitting out Darkness Wave. I'm all about it.
My favourite use of the "White Wings" Digi-Modify was against IceDevimon.

For me Digimon Tamers is still the best anime Digimon has made and all thanks to their special power like the Digi modify
a series that combined the digimodify concept say with the gladiator concept for the original Frontier series would be a fun season to explore...like beating a Digimon gets you more data or digimodify pieces

What I would of liked to see is if one of the tamers combo two modify cards together. Such as,
Rika using White Wings + Thor's Hammer modify cards as a combo for Renamon.
Imagine Renamon flying with White Wings while armed with Thor's Hammer.
I wish they experimented with digi-modify more throughout Tamers. It really gave the group its specific flavor

I can’t believe it took all these years to realize that the White Wings Card being so tied to Guilmon might be why Gallantmon Crimson mode gets those same White Wings.

A potential custom art video idea, what if digimon fusions occurred naturally? Like, Greymon + Mailbirdramon = Metalgreymon, which already exists. So what if other fusions had preexisting naturally occurring variants? (Zekegreymon comes to mind.)
I don't know why, but I was expecting you to put digivolution somewhere on this list. Digivolution is a Digi modify card, so I'm surprised you didn't mention it.

i always was a fan of renamons Snimon: Twin Sickles. i thought they looked absolutely stunning on renamons overall agile physique
It wasn't until relatively recently that I realized the white wings card was meant to evoke, or at least leads into, Crimson Mode at the end of the series. So i don't really mind that it's not based on another digimon, or that it's not used by any one other than Takato and Guilmon.
I love all Digimon and Pokemon contents. What if Power Rangers were Pokemon Trainers (like full team, not just pure mono teams)?

My problem with the card slashing thing was mostly that there didn't seem to be any rules associated with it.
On Number 4, is the Queen Device actually a separate card from the King Device? IIRC Ryo said that only a very powerful Tamer can use the King Device safely, and when he later gifts Suzie a card, I somehow remember it being the King Device card (which she just calls Queen Device to better suit herself). Which I saw as a subtle indicator that Ryo sees a lot of potential in Suzie.
