Claiming the Rent Tax Credit “Top Up” of €250 or €500 in Respect of 2024

Finance Act 2024 increased the credit for 2024 from €750 to €1,000 for a single assessed taxpayer and from €1,500 to €2,000 for jointly assessed married couples/civil partners. This increase applies retrospectively, and so taxpayers may need to make or amend their current claim in order to avail of the “top up”.
As the increase in the value of the credit for the 2024 was applied retrospectively, Revenue has updated its process, and additions have been added to provide guidance on how to claim the increase for the 2024 tax year.
