I had the same impulse. Now I have them in a70 gallon white tigarbarbs for 2 weeks so far so good but I have coridoras owso there I'm waried a bit for them owdo haven't noticed issues so far.
In my opinion these are the easiest cichlids to breed. They are not picky about water parameters, temperatures or feed. They will reproduce in tanks way too small for their size. I have bred thousands of these and ended up using them as feeders when lfs refused to take any more from me at any price. I have also raised Convicts and while they are probably just as easy to breed they are no where near as prolific . This species has adapted well to and taken up residence in the Florida canals and streams and with their high breeding rate are becoming an invasive non-native nuisance fish. Part of the reason that the hobby is now under attack from congress.
I have a jewel cichlid on his own in a 4ft tank but worried about which South Americans will be fine as he’s aggressive but he’s fine with two loach I recently put in
I have 3 jewels that are all dull colored since I brought them home. I’ve had them for a few months now. I feed them omega pellets and they’re in a 20 Gal. Any suggestions to brighten them up?
Are they in a tank by themselves? How old are they? If they are in a tank with fish that are harassing them they will color down. Also, they take awhile sometimes to color up. I had a fry that I gave to a friend and he is 8 months old before he started coloring up.
I brought a pair of red jewel cichlid last week, since then they're keep hiding as much as possible and always laying at the bottom of the tank. Don't know what to do😔
@@jerrysfishroom3579 One of them drives the other ... And only they live in the aquarium. There is no damage. I took it from a girlfriend who also has a couple.
First fish I ever got were a pair of red jewels and they bred non stop. They sure are great looking fish! Thanks for sharing!👍
Thanks for watching
Such a beautiful red color
Great video!
I found if you can keep them alone and not with other jewels. They're quite peaceful actually 👍

I agree with that. Check out my video on the Lacey act. I talk about that in it. Thanks for the comment

They are territorial and mine do not swim all over. They often stay in one place and love caves. You are not doing anything wrong.
@@jerrysfishroom3579 thank god, i was so scared

Hi... I have a pair red jewel, but they are not so friendly...?
They can be aggressive. What is in there with them?
@@jerrysfishroom3579 they are only... And bristle nose pair
@@jerrysfishroom3579 they are aggressive to each other
Are they chasing or are they lip locking? How long have they been together? Any damage to their sides? Are they the only Jewels in there?
