Working from home is the best thing ever. Historiclly, people generally worked in or nearby their homes, until the Industrial Revolution changed all that. In my opinion, being able to live and work closely along one's family members is a blessing.

I’ve made a firewood shelter in the garage to keep wood dry. Only cost $60 of screws as I had the wood. Repurposed some wood from an old aviary. It’s not decor but but it’s function reduces slipping in the mud and wood is closer to the front door. It’s given me a real sense of calm and making me happy. I painted a blanket box for a coffee table or extra seating last year. Also repurposed wood from around the house to make other furniture.

I finally finished my dark and delightful, jewel toned back bedroom! The one I painted in Behr’s Black Sapphire and Tanzanite! It’s gorgeous! Being the north east corner, it’s got a calm, meditative feel, with gold , aqua, pink and purple pops.
I’m almost done with my bathroom in Le Luxe! I did the ceiling, door and cabinets in high gloss, and the door is getting a clear coat too. The walls are in satin. Color drenching the whole space except for the fixtures. It’s so luxurious feeling. I’m doing pops of black, because it’s the north side of the house. Le Luxe is a charcoal gray with stone green, so it’s a nice contrast!
I have 3 more rooms after this! Thanks for the constant inspiration! You Rock!
Oh. I’m renting, too. I don’t care! I’m doing the whole room! If we move, I have a spray gun . I can undo it all in a weekend or less. I’m hand painting each room. It takes about a week or so for each room. Enveloping the whole space feels like nothing else I’ve ever done before!
LOVE! LOVE!! LOVE!!! I had to scream it out for the renters in the back! Seriously! It’s never too early (or late) to prioritize yourself and your well-being, whether you rent or own. It all starts fr surrounding ourselves with a space we’re truly obsessed with! Thanks for watching and sharing 🫶🏻

The entire kitchen cabinetry in this builder grade home. Pulled it out and started the remodelling using a lot of original timbers, re-cut to suit, plus new stuff. Still at it, but as of yesterday after removing a ton of clutter, the new look is becoming evident in a big way.

Plants and morning rituals are part of what makes our home so fantastic! I am a cancer as well, and home is my favorite place. We are currently doing a new build and a bold wallpaper in the 1/2 bath or powder room is on the to do list, as is a green moody master bedroom!!! Love your advice and look forward to new videos!

I like this video ! The jacket you are wearing is very beautiful! I remember when you used to wear big necklaces to create a frame. But that caftan looks best without competition. Except for your pretty face of course! I love Annie Sloan chalk paint. I have used several different chalk paint brands and Annie Sloan makes the one that goes on best. She also has great tools to work it with. Chalk paint can and should be diluted for best application and Annie recommends mixing colors to get the one you want. Waxes finish the look! I remember the pink dresser and when you painted it grey. It looks terrific! What a beautiful design you did for your friends luxurious home. I remember your intro used to show the two red enclaves in the living room. Such a dramatic look for that room and they still have it. That’s a credit to you! As you know wallpaper is a favorite of mine. I don’t know why it ever went out of style. It’s so versatile. And now with the peelable wallpaper it’s even better and can be used on furniture shelves etc. I have not done a furniture re do in a while. But it’s my favorite way to recreate. I love our morning routine too! Especially the coffee part! On the weekends I like to take my coffee out to my garden to see which bulbs were successful after fall planting. Have a great week! 🥰🥰🥰🌞🌸

I love, love love your dining room sofa, your caftan, and OMG the Casa Hacienda you just designed, GORGEOUS!! If I could copy and paste everything about that amazing home into my 1600 sq ft farmhouse (😅😅😅) I would. I don't even care that my scruffy house is not grand and doesn't match, hahaha. The colors, fabric and rug prints, the art and lighting(!?) in Casa Hacienda - Gaaahhhh!!! I watched that part 3 times! Oh, and I am the Plant Goddess. I can grow anything. So I have definitely repurposed all kinds of funky containers for the trees and plants inside my house 🙂

When I'm researching and watching video of finishes, decor, and "overall looks" I can diy for our (new to us) home, I just find a sea of beige, greige, and black and white. I see tons of pictures and video of gorgeous homes where people have spent $100,000+ in their kitchen and, it's white, white everywhere. Gorgeous Uber quality countertops, backsplashes, cabinets all white. No color. Not even a little lamp with color. All white art, no pictures of their babies, nothin'. Now, I don't want a clown house, or an Austin Powers living room 😅. But I need color, plants, I want pictures of my family out, I want to see my rock collection (yes, I like Star Trek too). I just don't see any designers personalizing their projects for the family but you. Why is it taboo to have some family photos out or have a blue vase with flowers in the kitchen, YKWIM?

Very timely, because I have been trying to figure out how to create/re-create more beautiful spaces. few months ago, I got rid of a piano that was in the entryway (sadly, it was just too old, and its only function had become a shelf for family photos). After it was gone, I moved a buffet/sideboard to that space, and placed only a lamp and two plants on it. Looks great. But since then I have been stuck.
Time for a paint project Janice!! Maybe a beloved cabinet that you’ve forgotten about? I’m sure there’s tons of goodies in the garage or extra bedroom 😉
I noticed that beautiful caftan as soon as the video began! Lucky you! I have a loveseat that is a divider between an entryway and tv room. I live in a basement apartment with a huge open room. Since I recently repurposed the cupboard that was behind the loveseat, the first thing one sees on entering is the back of this loveseat. I want to put a slim console table behind the loveseat. I have one in matte white, which was a very cheap find and i previously used two of them against a wall with my sofa in front of it so it wasn’t seen. (This is a good thing!) one console will fit perfectly behind the loveseat. It definitely (or desperately) needs updating. I’m thinking of trying chalk paint. I do have a milk paint additive in a pine green, which I hope will go well with my mint-ish wall color. I’m just waiting for better weather. (Current excuse! I’ve got a million of them) Thanks for sharing your expertise. I appreciate you, and your team’s inspiring videos. How do they pick the stills of the rooms?!? They are always spot on!

Hi Julie, I'm right now repurposing my existing furniture with the help of some local carpenters. Can't get rid of them because these pieces had such rich history before they landed with us and then so many memories have been added on - impossible to give them away but they were not really fulfilling our needs too. So, I came up with the idea of making minor alterations to suit our needs. But hey, I could not listen to anything you said until the point about repurposing furniture because your kaftan had filled my mind. 😄What a wonderful find! I generally avoid such bold patterns and colors, but now I feel the want. Although off-topic, I think you should give a tour of your wardrobe someday. 😊

I want to create a quiet space away from all the noise but don't know where. I have an extra armchair and a side table but living room is too noisy, kitchen/dinning has no space, husband goes to sleep at 8pm so master doesn't work, kids rooms- kids are there and distract me, hallway is too narrow and thats all the rooms. I just want a space where I can read or drink tea in complete peace for maybe 30 minutes a day. I have 4 kids and they are homeschooled so they are home all day everyday.
How about the front porch or back yard? You can plop a small little round rug underneath the chair and side table and boom 💥 - instant ME corner 🙌🏻 Just make sure you cover the chair for extra protection against dirt/wind/rain etc

I used to go to this vintage dealer in West Hollywood that imported all Moroccan decor from lighting to tables, rugs, accessories- it was fabulous! Sadly, they shuttered during the pandemic. I’ll share if I find any Jim! Thank you for watching 🙏🏻🩷

Hi Julie,
My master bedroom only has a solid wall that faces the command position and my head is pointing east however the bathroom door is on the side of my bed. The other wall is next to the bedroom main door and it will not be in the command position and I am a Kua 4 so that is my in-auspicious area. The next place would be in front of a window but then my bed would face the bathroom door. I have an autoimmune disease and a disabled veteran so I am trying my best to sleep on the health side and I have run out of options😭😭😭. How do I remedy this and where should I place my bed? Thank you so much for always replying! You are the best! You're the only one I watch for feng shui tips because you really break it down kindergarten style for us and I love that because sometimes I can't get the other creators because they are not speaking my brain language haha😂. I appreciate any help you could send my way. Thank you!
It’s OK to have your bed face the (closed always!) bathroom door if you’re in the command position Lulene! It’s mostly the entry door that is considered for the “coffin” position. Try it and let me know if it helps! 🩷

Question.. is it SO WRONG to have a visibly different hardwood style in one room than the rest of the home? 😅 Similar to using tile floors in an open kitchen, adjacent to hardwood. I walked into an open house & saw the entire main floor hardwood - thin narrow horizontal red oak - without rugs & honestly, the colors & strips looked dizzying. If this living & dining room had its own wall-wall solid-color carpet or a similar harwood color but wider-plank, would this be a waste of reno $?
Not at all! I’ve been known to mix it up from space to space, yes- even in open concept. It’s actually very common for remodels when you’re only addressing one area at a time 👍
@@JulieKhuu Perfect, thank you, Julie. The cost to install & match the hardwood to the rest of our home is EXPENSIVE. Just don’t want to waste $ if the floor style is different, in an open space situation (versus a closed-door bathroom or bedroom). I assume better to go different than so-close-but-not to avoid the “fail match”. 🤭

@@JulieKhuu Yes! I think I would sleep like a baby. I'm on a third shift schedule, so I have to sleep during the day. A black bedroom would make it seem more like nighttime to me.
