I’m coming to the end of DMing a 4.5 year long campaign and my revelations have been pretty similar. I learned to be more flexible and not restrict the world to a certain tone, letting the players have agency while keeping a few plot threads running in the background for them to return to when they wanted.
Great and conscise video! I would suggest run multiple semi short campaings (6-10 tops sessions), before running a long time campaing, for having time to let breathing some new air and new characters.
Totally agree, its always helpful to run games with a vide variety of groups so you can have experience with all different types of players and different story themes!
Your right friend but I never ran a game that lasted this long since I bounced around a lot. Most the games I ran before only lasted like a month or so, so getting to run the game for 3 years was a treat, if something about that confuses you lmk and I can try to clear it up :)
actually not true, most dnd campaigns last 2-5 sessions and then the groups stops, if you've ever tried dnding with strangers thats how it goes most the time and thats most peoples experience with it
