  • My process for removing the carpet from the Audi TT - this is the roadster, but it's basically the same on the coupe too. Mostly finding my way through it so you can tackle it with a bit more information than I had.

    Hi Ben (and all other Roadster owners).
    The drain tubes have probably rotted away. They are made of really cheap plastic and are lined with foam for noise suppression purposes.
    Please don't assume they are fixed if you blow them through because they will probably still leak.
    I found a great video on how to make your own replacements. Please message me if you need any further information.
    I followed Andy Charger's video on how to remove the roof because I wanted to check the back for any other leaks. This makes removing and replacing the tubes so much easier and it provides the opportunity to check the roof motor fluid level and for any hydraulic leaks.
    Thanks for the video Ben. I wish I had seen it earlier because I broke some trim trying to get the carpet out.
    It will be really helpful for putting it all back though, so thanks!!!

      Yeah I’m tempted to replace mine this year, just for completeness. I think you can get replacements for about £60, which isn’t tooooo expensive for an old Audi. I have big hands, so I know that job will be horrible 😆

    Thanks for this video, perfect timing. Helped me get my carpet out for a deep cleaning and to install an aftermarket heated seat loom. Only change to your process I'd recommend - when removing the switch panel from the center console near the rear (with the roof controls, etc) - after removing the armrest (cupholders in my case), you can stick your fingers in through that opening and press up on the bottom of those switches to pop them out - much less chance of breaking/damaging the surrounding plastic this way.

      Good tip! I've yet to refit mine (Chasing down leaky seals still), was it easy enough to get back in?

      Hi Phil
      I have purchased the aftermarket heated seat loom, but I'm not an auto electrician.
      Any tips for fitting please?
      Thanks
      Simon

    Thanks for the video. I've never seen an arm rest like that. Is it after market? I broke my center speaker cover in the same place.

      I think they were aftermarket, but there's often one for sale on eBay or one of the facebook groups - they just bolt right in

    Ben, great video. Did the drain tube clearing resolve the water leak issue? (or has it returned?)

    • @benofthenorthuk
      @benofthenorthuk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It solved it yes - I have a newer leak I discovered from the front left door, but a small bit of extra silicon rubber has stopped that thankfully,

      @@benofthenorthuk That's reassuring to know all the time and effort taking the interior out pays off, leaks are always a challenge to track down. Did you also change the drain hoses?

    • @benofthenorthuk
      @benofthenorthuk  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@davidjsmith67utube I haven't gotten around to that yet, but being that the interior has stayed dry so far I've not been in a rush to do that

    Good work. I did exactly the same last year as it was the only way to stop condensation. If your carpet is still out feed a tube into the chassis and pump out as it gets down there too. Whilst I was at it I also changed the drain tubes as they’d disintegrated, I know from your other video you’ve cleared them, but if you want full peace of mind noes the time to do it! Have you cleared the little holes in the rubber at the top of the A-pillar?

    • @benofthenorthuk
      @benofthenorthuk  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi thanks! Yep cleared the holes - drain tubes on the rear are all good (I still have yet to check the front ones, but its currently tipping it down so can see if the floorpan gets wet after all my work. I gummy pledged all the rubbers too. Haven't pumped the holes though, but the car smells dry now. As the trim is all off now I might give the drain tube swap a go actually, good idea

      @@benofthenorthuk if your trim is out you’ll be able to get to them quiet easily through the speaker mounts. I didn’t buy Audi hoses, I used wire reinforced coolant hose, but standard coolant hose would also be fine. You’d need 22mm inside diameter and I got two lengths of 750mm. They work perfect. The original are plastic reinforced with a steel spring, but they had worn away!

    I will say the roadster runs better with 100kilos of unnecessary bollocks removed and about 1/4c of urine in the CCM.
