Hey John, Michael, and Shannon, I just wanted to thank you all for the Geek Buddies show. It’s like hanging out with my friends, but with a much more informative discussion. It’s been a rough few years for me and my family, due to health issues, but this show (and Johnny’s network) keeps me informed and laughing. Much appreciated guys!
Sorry to hear that it’s been a rough time. We all go thru those periods, man. It’s helpful to find things that distract you or give you a break from it. Thanks for letting us (and m network of shows) do that for you!
To Cal Kestis I say bring him in especially with his connection to Merrin who used to be the last nightsister and now Thrawn bringing the nightsisters back with him
Love that I got an ad for The Monkey right in the middle of your trailer discussion bc it couldn’t have come at a more perfect time 😂 hadn’t heard of the movie but your descriptions sounded interesting
I really don't like discussions about a live action Cal Kestis project when we still need the final game in the trilogy to come out. I don't want Respawn to be forced to change their plan because KK and Filoni want to use the character.
Must suck for destin daniel cretton, first he gets taken of off the orginial Avengers kang dynasty , now possibly spiderman. It felt like he was promoted and now demoted back to Shang chi. Nothing against shang chi, but im sure he would love to do a spiderman or avengers movie instead..
Had to go check out the Companion trailer after hearing you guys talk about it. And The Monkey. I’m normally not a horror person, but thar looked hilarious, too.
Wilson Bethel was very good as Bullseye. I didn't know what to expect because the only thing I'd seen him in was a guest spot on an episode of Who's Line Is It Anyway? where Aisha Tyler kept trying to get him to take off his shirt.
Michael is definitely right about Gremlins. It can be set anywhere and anytime. I did enjoy the animated series, too. They just need the right human cast, but definitely make Gizmo and the Gremlins the focus with a bit of that humor with the horror that we know. A Goonies sequel on the other hand is about 30yrs too late. It should’ve came out in the ‘90s. Like Skeleton Crew has shown, they can make an original film with the same nostalgic vibes as those Amblin movies of the ’80s without calling it “Goonies”.
My story idea to connect Cal Kestis: he runs the safe haven planet, the hidden planet, which becomes a tiny bubble of safety for Force-sensitive folks. Cal has to learn how to oversee a whole city and train Force users. Maybe Grogu ends up here.
A couple years ago I would have said no more reboots and legacy sequels, please. But last year I had a lot of fun watching Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and I love Twisters. So, why not continue the 80's and 90's nostalgia; I'm not even being sardonic.
I like Sam Raimi but didn’t care for his campiness take on Dr Strange. The writing didn’t help either. Rather we get another director or get Scott Derrrikson back
I bet Doctor Strange 3 gets a greenlight and Shang Chi plays a major central roles in both Avengers movies but I'm betting he might die by the end of those two movies. I just don't see any calendar slots available unless they plan to release is post Secret Wars & X-Men (2028-ish). I think Kevin Feige wants to complete Doctor Strange 3, do his spin-off show of Strange Academy & Young Avengers. The untitled Marvel movies are probably going to be Doctor Strange 3, Thor 5, Midnight Sons, Black Panther 3, World War Hulk, ending with Scarlet Witch (House Of M) & then the first new X-Men movie will start. They can actually fit all of that in before the climatic phase end. I don't see any room for Shang Chi 2, Eternals 2, or Captain Marvel 3 nor are they guaranteed to be smash hits like the others with larger ensembles casts which are better positioned in my opinion and add more value.
To be fair, a lot of those projects were finished long time ago and have just been on backlog until now, just finishing touches have been added over time
Not interested in a Goonies reboot, but maybe it could be nice if they make something like in skeleton crew. Now, gremlins is an interesting topic, I love those creatures and their two movies, I will love to see more of them, but they need the right director, their movies were practically cartoons with a lot of 90s energy
My pitch for a legacy sequel for Goonies was "Bran" Brandon Josh Brolin character is Murdered and Uncle Mickey doesn't show up saves on Josh and Sean the goonies reunite at the funeral and are working the mystery why he was killed, and Mickey's wearabouts from a more mature angle, while their kids go about it in a more "Goonies" style.
With respect, it's old news that we knew an older Avengers writer was coming back in to help the Russos write Doomsday and Secret Wars. I just didn't realize that it was major news all of a sudden.
@@brucecrawford_17 With respect, that wasn’t the big news. It was that they were scrapping Waldron’s script completely….which had never been reported till last week.
I'm all for a new Gremlins movie. Definitely make it PG-13, lean towards the scary with comedy woven through. I think the best director to helm it would be James Wan. With Aquaman and Furious 7, we know he can do the comedic part. His horror credentials are well established. It's a surefire hit, in my opinion.
Also, Daredevil is about Murdock and his religion as a Christian. Born Again is a term for Born Again christian so it brings into mind his inner turmoil with religion.
I'm still skeptical about anything coming out on Disney+, but if _Daredevil: Born Again_ is as good as _Andor_ and _Skeleton Crew_ I might start thinking that they're finally getting their shit together.
Just waiting for mike to call Working Man "Wicked for straight men" haha, also Intimacy Utility sounds more exploitative than just saying fuckbot haha. Thanks for the show gents. EDIT: I'm with mike longlegs did nothing for me, was tied most disappointing movie (based on hype going in) for me last year alongside conclave (which is maybe more of a hot take, Women Talking did everything this movie did far better just 2 years ago [i'm still slightly bitter about it clearly ha]).
You guys are so wrong: Goonies with original cast, bringing a brand new story to it. Otherwise, there's not nearly as much of a draw to the film with ONLY brand new actors in a new story. Try Cobra Kai without Macchio and the blonde guy...
Hollywood is out of ideas for a while now. They're just recycling old '80s and' 90s franchises. They look like desperate moves right now to not have another flop year.
Star Wars. I'm kind of with Villeneuve. On the other hand, I like Rogue One, Andor and Skeleton Crew. (Mandalorian kinda lost me. S1 was cool, s2 was..idk, s3 I haven't watched. I watched Rebels, but Ahsoka was kinda meh. Obi-Wan was meh. Boba Fett was meh. I don't care for the prequels, the sequels lost me. Enfys Nest made no sense to me, althoughI kinda like Solo. ...) I never played any games, I never read any books, I don't do comic books. I watch Star Wars geek youtubers, so I know the names, so..whatever. But the lack of plan problem is a real problem.

@ thank you!
38:38 Daredevil
thanks
Thank Geek it’s Friday!
Gremlins came out the year I was born and I adore it. Gizmo fan for life.
But if Goonies is a modern reboot the kids will just sit in the living room silently on their IPads playing a pirate adventure video game
Thank god you're not a writer
@ Do I have to do the Truffle Shuffle on your face?!
I like that quick second at the beginning before the intro song when all three of them give us an optical pat down real quick.
Great show! Love you guys!
To Cal Kestis I say bring him in especially with his connection to Merrin who used to be the last nightsister and now Thrawn bringing the nightsisters back with him

Just sending some love to the homies! 💜
Brolin just made Brothers, he'd definitely come back for Goonies😂
I really don't like discussions about a live action Cal Kestis project when we still need the final game in the trilogy to come out. I don't want Respawn to be forced to change their plan because KK and Filoni want to use the character.
I'm worried people won't give Captain America 4 a fair chance. Either because Cap is Sam Wilson now or because Sam Wilson is Anthony Mackie.
People hate Anthony Mackie now?
Great discussion
Listening to the podcast I get to hear John reading ad copy right up against the “professional” ads that get dropped in and John sounds better!
Well duh. 😜

0:00 lol that’s a freeze frame

I would be disappointed if they didnt cast Monaghan as Cal
Depends on how old they make Cal
The Body also a short story from Stephen King known to us as Stand By Me.
Blink and you'll miss it, but good to see Elden Henson returning as *Frosty* Nelson
Foggy.

Yeah they’ve been doing the cons for Disney, it’s who they ain’t shown that will be fun to see in realtime
Actually, at this point, the Original Goonies would have to team up with their Grandkids

An accountant (not Statham), a transporter… coming soon, a librarian.
Apparently (Grace Randolph said that back then) China didn't like Shang Chi, and this was the problem with sequels. Idk.
My story idea to connect Cal Kestis: he runs the safe haven planet, the hidden planet, which becomes a tiny bubble of safety for Force-sensitive folks. Cal has to learn how to oversee a whole city and train Force users. Maybe Grogu ends up here.
🎉Big fan great content
Goonies; Gremlins ... (Willow.)
Watching Skeleton Crew made me think how the Willow series doesn't feel like Willow the movie at all. At all .
LONGLEGS IS GOD DAMNED PERFECT!!!
A couple years ago I would have said no more reboots and legacy sequels, please. But last year I had a lot of fun watching Beetlejuice Beetlejuice and I love Twisters. So, why not continue the 80's and 90's nostalgia; I'm not even being sardonic.
Let's gooooooooo!
I like Sam Raimi but didn’t care for his campiness take on Dr Strange. The writing didn’t help either. Rather we get another director or get Scott Derrrikson back
the way wandavision ended made it feel like a natural progression for her to become an antagonist. idk🤷🏽♂️
Jason Statham. Even The Meg is like every other . . .
I bet Doctor Strange 3 gets a greenlight and Shang Chi plays a major central roles in both Avengers movies but I'm betting he might die by the end of those two movies. 😂marvel has what 8-9 projects this year? they’ll be fine
To be fair, a lot of those projects were finished long time ago and have just been on backlog until now, just finishing touches have been added over time

I need them to finish Cals story in the game before they start adding hin to live action.
I agree with Micheal on the goonies. Just reboot it
After Yang

I need Jason Statham to turn to Shannon and go, “What’s the gun for, Shanny? Ze Germans?”
With respect, it's old news that we knew an older Avengers writer was coming back in to help the Russos write Doomsday and Secret Wars. I just didn't realize that it was major news all of a sudden.

the gooners: gooning 4 life
Hello
Goonies 2 ! No reboot
Will make a billion
Gremlins 3 needs to be more the first film
I'm sorry but they need to swap someone else in in place of Sam Raimi. Not even taking in wandavision when prepping got that film hurt Wanda's arc :-(
Hey Geekbuds, when will ya'll review Severance🐐🍼😊 please and thank you !!
wasssup

isnt Destin supposed to direct Naruto? or is that a confirmed 2025 production?
Skeleton Crew was MID as Heck!! Not something you go back and watch.
You guys are so wrong: Goonies with original cast, bringing a brand new story to it. Otherwise, there's not nearly as much of a draw to the film with ONLY brand new actors in a new story.
Try Cobra Kai without Macchio and the blonde guy...
I literally said they need to bring back the original c cast. Be specific with your "you guys". 😜
I disagree with Shannon thought season 2 was the best season.
You forgot to talk about the 'UNTIL DAWN' trailer............
I haven't watched any of the old Marvel TV series. I'm not sure I'll watch this one.
Hollywood is out of ideas for a while now. They're just recycling old '80s and' 90s franchises. They look like desperate moves right now to not have another flop year.
