I'm all for making COPA an all Americas tournament, but the problem with merging CONEMBOL and CONCACAF beyond that is that the sheer size of the map is likely too much for it to be practical. In Europe teams on polar ends of the continent are a four hour flight from each other and no more than two timezones. Meanwhile, Buenos Aires and Santiago are an 11 hour flight from Toronto, Lima is 8 hours, Brasilia is 9 hours etc. Not to mention the crazy timezone changes that it would require for players in western timezones. Canada would be better off continuing to play as many friendlies as possible against European teams. Likely not going to get many home games but that's the price you pay for being an up and coming soccer nation.
