Agreed! Elemental synergy would be sooo great with every element in my opinion. Imagine the multiple types of strategies and weapon-combos players could use! c:
@TheGarageBandGuide Thank you! I’ve appreciated your support all this time! I saw that you have 100k+ subs yourself. Very nice! Thanks for leaving comments on a small channel like mine 😊
I suck at video games. I play on story and still struggle a bit and panic button mash sometimes. But I love playing. it's super fun for me even being bad at it. Someone on reddit recommended your channel and I've been watching a ton of your videos over the past day. I used a Valor surge for the first time today! You are awesome and I really appreciate it
Hey thanks a lot! And welcome to the channel 😁 Glad you’re enjoying your time playing! Don’t worry at all about playing on story mode. It’s all about doing what’s fun for you 👍🏼🙂 Hope you’re able to pick up some tips from the vids!
I usually play these games on the Normal setting. And with Jedi: Fallen Order, I play it on the Jedi Knight setting, which I think is Star Wars for 'Normal'. There's also Jedi Master, which I think would be 'Hard', and Padawan, for 'Easy'. Though in that game, when it came to facing the Ninth Sister for the first time, I eventually had to change the difficulty to 'Story' mode, just so I could finally get past it. Tried about 5 or 6 times. It was just too tough for me.
I'm fairly casual when it comes to combat, as my main interest is the story, characters and lore so it took me a long time to master hardcore weapon and outfit builds in HZD. I initially found HFW's much more complex systems pretty overwhelming but have adapted my playstyle and improved enough now to start experimenting with optimal builds. This was an invaluable video which gave me exactly the information I have been looking for and a lot more as well. You're extremely thorough, explain everything in an accessible way and have a personable and professional presentation style. Now I see why this channel has been coming up in my recommended list over the last couple of weeks! I've subscribed and am looking forward to your future content.
@Adrian Petford Thank you so much! I'm glad you found this useful. It's definitely my goal to create content that helps people understand the game mechanics better!
I honestly went through about 80 percent of the game without a purge water. Acid is a very useful element it's right up there with freeze and shock in opinion
You should try purgewater out. It’s pretty useful!

I can’t get over how terrific your presentation was. The way you break all of the mechanics down and keep it brief yet informative is really outstanding. If I might suggest, please make a video about utilizing different playstyles such as close combat, machine rider, range hunter...etc.. It would be cool to hear your opinion about that.
@Kynam Van Thanks! I’m glad you think it was good quality 😄 I do put a lot of work into these! And thanks for your suggestion too. I actually am planning to do an “ultimate build” series where I do a video for each playstyle (stealth, melee, machine master, etc). Keep an eye out for them!
This was really well put together! I was actually also the impression that purgewater only affected shock and frost, so thanks for clearing that up! A little note about purgewater, against machine like snapmaws, who are weak to frost and have a purgewater canister, I highly suggest triggering the canister. It takes barely any time and will probably save you time over the course of the fight
Thanks @Plusle Playz ! And thanks for re-Tweeting it too! =D That's a good tip. Yes, purgewater canisters are definitely the quickest way to drench a machine!
As well as your tutorials being clear, well-paced and comprehensive, you take into account early game play as well as late game play, being considerate to the whole tribe of players rather than just the veterans. This is what great teachers do in any scenario. (signed, veteran Horizon player)
Plasma is useful against Stormbirds and Dreadwings, not because of the damage, but it staggers them, and it also brings them down to the ground. You can pretty much keep them stunlocked the entire fight.
Interesting point! I guess I have done that, but I never thought about using it specifically just to ground them. I’ll give that a try. Thanks for suggesting it!
@@jerrylo559 they all can but plasma from what I’ve experienced is best and adhesive is also good for flying machines and small machines
ปีที่แล้ว
Plasma is very good against smaller enemies as well, like Apex Spikesnouts or Apex Acid Clawstriders when it's very quick tobm build up the plasma state.
I found purge water debuff very useful against elemental mechs... like frost/ fire claws... really anything that spews elements all over the place during a fight. Which is a lot of higher tier machines.
Yeah, after learning drench disables elemental attacks I can now go after Frost Claws and Dreadwings. I had my second Dreadwing spam it's six shot acid attack nonstop while cloaked. I left that fight quite angry.
Tip: for stealth gameplay, use volley with elemental hunter arrows. It’ll create an area of elemental effect on the ground. Builds up really fast state when a machine walks into it. Shock is my go to volley trap.
That's how I usually try to play, is by stealth. Of course, sometimes I get discovered and fight some out in the open. But then I run around, get out of sight, wait till they 'give up' searching, and resume stealthing.
I was really struggling to grasp the best way to use my weapons and ammo in this game as others have said I found it very overwhelming and quite frustrating at times and was hindering my enjoyment of this game. You’ve managed to clear up so many problems I was encountering in what can only be described as an outstandingly well presented tutorial. Thank you so much, liked and subscribed 👏🏻👏🏻
Ummm...yeah...I NEEDED this! It was really well explained and informative. I never noticed the extra bar with the Plasma and generally avoided using it because I found it weak. Thanks for clearing up most of the questions I had. Great job on this video!
I agree that Plasma and Adhesive should be buffed! Also, I think something should be done about the low Fire and Corrosive damage as well. For Fire, and Corrosive, I think the inevitable DLC should introduce new upgrades to add a build-up meter to Fire and Corrosive once they take effect to increase the damage they deal. As for Plasma, I agree with you that the developer should simpy add an upgrade that increases the build-up meter size. Finally, Adhesive. For this one, I think they should simply add a few more weapons that can make use of it, like a sharp-shot bow.
this was fantastic. Thank You! I had to take a pause in playing the game after a few days to try and understand how these elements worked but your TH-cam video made all the difference!
Good guide, didn't know about purgewater removing all elemental resistances. I agree elemental damage could be icon differentiated from elemental buildup better but it is differentiated. One is just the element, the other has a little up icon in the bottom right of the element. The confusion would be cleared up pretty easily with a tooltip. If they changed to the impact icon I'd find it confusing since in my mind the impact icon means "neutral" element not health damage. I feel like you could've mentioned explosive damage as well even though functionally it's basically just an AoE impact damage. At least that's what it seems to be to me 😅 All up though, definitely glad your vid came up in my feed, was worth watching. Thanks for the effort.
@HepatoxTube Thank you! And good idea with a tooltip, that would be a great way to clear up what the dual elemental damage icons mean exactly. Also good point about explosive damage. I guess I could have mentioned it briefly. You're correct that it is indeed essentially AoE impact damage!
You and your community that has been built is an amazing thing. Thank to you and your teammates, I just jumped into these games and had alot of fun. SHOUT OUT TO Paris for crazy dedication to calcs.
Wow thanks so much Clayton! I really appreciate your support 🙏 And I'm glad you're finding my content helpful! Happy to have you over on Discord as well 🙂 Happy New Year and my best to your and yours!
I'm here 7 months later and even though I've always been a tryhard at games and don't really need guides, this channel is amazing for this game as I jumped into Ultra Hard instantly and if you don't use the elements correctly some of the fights are excessively annoying. Great videos.
Thank you. The in game tutorials were not exactly the best when concerning explaining the new elements. You did a better job explaining it here, than the game could. I appreciate the effort that went in to this. :)
This is an excellent guide! I'm almost done with the game and I didn't realize it had all of this depth. I usually just focus on tear damage since I like to connect all of the parts I can, with the exception of hitting canisters with its corresponding type. I wish the game did a better job of teaching all of this and making it necessary. Imagine if rather than not damaging certain areas and tearing certain areas there was also a resource incentive for using certain status effects. Ideally these could be hunting grounds challenges the same way melee pits teach you.
@Matt Skolnick Thank you! Yeah just like HZD the game doesn't do a great job teaching you all the mechanics. That's good you focus on tear damage though. That's important! And that's a cool idea for hunting grounds!
I knew a majority of this, but what I learned that was most valuable: What those numbers next to the weapons actually mean. I've been unable to find a good explanation before this. That corrosive damage actually melts their armor. I'm enjoying the growth of this channel. How do you know it's a good one? When the comments section attracts people you learn as much from as you do the content. Thanks again for putting in the work.
@Furious Styles Hey thanks Furious! I’m glad to have had you as part of this channel community since the “early days” 😄 Glad you found this video useful! And yeah I totally agree it’s great we get so many comments with suggestions and useful info!
@Tony Vang Totally! I have lots more Horizon content planned! I hope people continue to watch. I know a lot of people have finished the game at this point, but I feel like a lot of people still haven't or haven't even started yet.
Awesome video! I really appreciate how much detail you put into breaking down Purgewater in particular. I think it's a powerful element that grows in value the further you get into the Forbidden West. It's pretty fun to inflict Purgewater on a Frostclaw & then freeze it super easily lol.
I appreciate the little breakdown of berserk, it completely flew under my radar but corruption was one of my favorite things to mess with in ZD, even on ultra hard, so I’ll be grabbing that arena bow for sure now
I just found this channel yesterday because of the new weapons video. And wow even though I already platinum'd the game months ago, I can't stop watching! After Bloodborne I might do new game + after grinding all the legendary weapons! I look forward to future videos even on other games!
I must say your videos are the best for Horizon Forbidden west. It is my go to channel to learn and you explain it really well. Keep up this great work.
These guides are so helpful. Going through my first playthrough (PC), and I’m so impressed with the amount of depth they’ve added, building off of Zero Dawn’s already-stellar combat system. My wife and I were scouring the Internet looking for a well-explained answer to the buildup icons, and I agree that the impact numbers should just have the impact symbol. I guess they don’t because they want to remind you that it will do bonus damage to machines weak to that element? Wish those icons were better explained in the game. Either way, next time I’ve got a question I’m coming to this channel first. Your presentation style is solid!
I really wished you can remove certain ammo type from the bow, there’s a lot of repeating elements because the ammo type is tied to the bow. This makes the weapon wheel extremely busy looking. I wish there was a way to hide some ammo types, an easier way to swap weapons and Valor Surge within the weapon wheel itself, right now the only way to do it is in the menu, that’s kind of a mess!
Yes! I’ve been thinking about this exact same thing! I’m thinking I’ll do a video on “thing that would make HFW perfect” at some point in the future and I was definitely going to include this. Glad to hear other people are thinking along the same lines!
@@ArktixOfficial Yea, I think the developers tried to include too much and make the game too big but in the end they ran out of ideas. For example, in the stealth tree there's an ability for the Sharpshot Bow that shoot a very powerful that "explodes," I'm here thinking to my self, but why? I'm suppose to be stealthy right? Next thing I hate most is the damn food, 3 minutes boost, even if you max out the skill it's 7 minutes, that's not even enough time to get to a fight and finish. Have you ever even bother with food? It should be like at least 15-30 minutes.
No I can’t say I really use food at all lol. Yeah maybe if they increased the time it would be more worthwhile. And yeah I agree it’s a bit weird that Braced Shot is in the Infiltrator branch. It’s probably one of the least stealthy skills in the whole skill tree lol 😂 I do like Braced Shot though!
@@WheeledHamster just because it’s in the stealth tree doesn’t mean it necessarily has anything to do with stealth. That’s just what tree that they put sharpshot bows into
@@chip6933 yeah im not that big a fan of how guerilla nerfed the hell out of stealth bows. i feel like for a single player game people should play how they like. before in Hzd with the stealth bow you could clear an entire camp without anyone noticing you once, now no matter what bow you have the only thing that happens is you knock their helmet off. at least let the penetrating ammo type one shot helmets , it makes no sense how it can go through multiple people but not a helmet.
I'm getting close to completing the game, and I've basically ignored elemental damage. Wish I'd watched this video earlier so I'd spent the time learning how it works better. I hadn't even seen the rope caster before I watched one of your videos. Every hard fight is me cheesing the robots by hiding on a cliff mostly. Using the tear arrows to knock off components and then slowly whittling them down using basic arrows or the long range arrows if the machine hides too far away from my position. I'm going to be leaning heavily on elemental damage for the rest of the playthrough. I got myself a rope caster after watching your videos and used it, plus the spinny boomerang thing on a fireclaw battle. What a difference.
Yup, i did notice that fire seemed like it was nerfed from Zero Dawn to Forbidden West, which makes me sad because that was my favorite. Well fire and corruption. Looks like berzerk is going to be just as good as corruption was though so looking forward to finding something with that on it. Nothing like tagging a group of enemies and letting them do the job for you while you stand back and watch and then rewarding the very damaged winner of the ensuing brawl with a couple of arrows to take it down easily.
Thanks for this. I'm doing another playthrough (I got fed up of waiting for NG+) and this will make choosing my elements easier. First playthrough I used fire a lot because, as you said, that worked well in ZD but i did find it more limited and reverted back to physical damage quite a lot. Knowing my luck, they will release NG+ just as I get to the base the first time!
@Paul Jackson Cool! I'm glad you found this helpful. Yeah fire really isn't anywhere near as useful as it was in HZD. Hopefully NG+ will be here soon, but hopefully not in the middle of your playthrough 😄
Regarding the icons for elemental damage and impact damage: I totally agree with you on how the icon should look like (like impact damage with a little element type in the corner).-But whether it is a mixup/mistake on the shredder gauntlets can be tested: real impact damage is supposed to stay the same even if the target is weak to that element. So either it totally is a mistake or correctly reflecting a little shredder detail.
I think it should be mentioned that some machines can shake off elemental effects themselves such as fireclaws being able to remove frost and frostclaws able to remove fire. To prevent them from doing so destroy the elemental sac on their chests.
@Kevin Goodger Awesome! I’m glad you found it early in your HFW playthrough. I feel like I was kinda late with this one since a lot of people have already finished the game, but I’m glad you’re finding it helpful! Thanks for your comment!
@@ArktixOfficial I have about 9 hours in so just getting some of the elemental bows now, but I had no idea about sacs or the two different elemental damage indicators, but now I know!
Awesome! Not sure if you’re on Discord, but we have a group of really helpful people over there if you have questions! My server link is in the video descriptions. Feel feel to comment questions here too, but it’s kinda tough for me to sift through TH-cam comments. The game is awesome, so I hope you enjoy it!
I just bought the game yesterday and found your videos and have to say I can't believe how you cover every little detail about the topic, down to the last minute detail. Love your videos keep up the good work!
Really helpful - and a concise and well edited video. I’ve played plenty of Horizon but haven’t finished and wasn’t sure exactly what was going on with plasma and purgewater so thanks for this.
I feel like they kept the elemental symbol because it can still fluctuate based on a machines resistance or weakness. Unlike regular impact damage that doesnt fluctuate.
Hell yeah, thanks dude!! I can finally get more concentration +15% coils. I'm on my 4th playthrough but only have 1 since I had no clue it existed until I watched one of your earlier videos.
I've just finished the main story, but I'm learning so much with these guides of yours. Good stuff man! Certainly very useful as I sweep through the whole map and proceed to the burning shores. Glad I found your channel 😁
Man I wish I'd found this before I started. I figured most of this out, but it was harder going than I expected. Even on normal these machines are ruthless.
Plasma is a bit underwhelming but I love it for Apex stormbirds and Dreadwings because one to two precision plasma arrows from Forgefall will apply plasma state to them and make them fall to the ground
Interesting. What difficulty level do you play on? On Very Hard the fire spikes feel pretty weak to me, but I could see on something like normal maybe they’d be stronger because the machines have less HP.
Upgrade pulverizing spike to at least 3rd rank (unlocks advanced explosive), purchase power shot skill and max out. This Valor let's you use 5 free shots of this expensive ammo and each deals about 800hp + depending on upgrades. Learned from another video and confirmed awesome, lol
@Timothy Knox Cool! I’ll have to give that a try. I can’t say I use spike throwers often, but that’s a good point that you could use it with the Powershots Valor Surge. Although I think in a patch a couple weeks ago they changed it so the ammo isn’t free anymore…
Do you ever think that Elemental Stacking or even a Battery Effect would even be implemented into the game? It would be nice to have something like pugewater followed by frost or shock doing a huge blast of damage when stacked, or like lighting acid on fire and having it burn and corode harder
Hey Ross! Oh man I'd love this. I've been talking about that on my Discord server for a while. I agree it would be really cool to be able to combine/stack different elemental states. Burning or electrified adhesive? Corroding fire? Shock+plasma=extra big explosion? So many possibilities!
I like to use plasma on flying machines. The blast always grounds them and in my experience usually starts the knowdown meter handy for stormbird stormcannons and dreadwing parts
This guy's content (and subsequently whole channel, for that matter) is the shit. Best HFW videos that are out there in my opinion. I would love to see more machine-specific videos. Keep up the good work man, I'll be watching 👍 EDIT: GBoard autocorrected "watching" to "sexting". Don't judge me... But yeah I will definitely not be sexting, my apologies.
@ScotCinamon Wow thanks! Glad to have you here! I didn’t see your comment before you edited it, but thank you for explaining the edit that’s hilarious! Interesting GBoard went for “sexting” 😏😂 Thanks again for your support! Thanks 🙏🏼
I'm pretty sure I got through HZD smoothly with luck because FW seems more focused on the stats, and I HATE stats when it comes to games. I feel like they became stat heavy while introducing more features, my pea brain is not adapting fast enough for me to say I'm fully enjoying this one. Thank you for explaining in such fantastic detail each new element. I'm going in with a new strategy, and you for aure have earned a new sub.
Hey thanks! Yeah, Forbidden West is quite a bit more complex with stats and gear compared to Zero Dawn. Definitely a bit of a learning curve. Glad you found this helpful, and thanks for your sub! =D
Great Tutorial, I confess I didn't get the Damage Symbols on the Element Ammo right either, I thought the upper one had to do with direkt Elemental Damage and the one beneath would show the damage over time once the Elemental status is reached thx for clearing that! One thing about the Plasma Ammo: You are right that the damage the explosion deals is disappointing but I like to use it when I take down Apex Fire- and Frostclaws. Taking them down while keeping their sac webbings intact limits what weapons and ammo can be used and puts the best and biggest weakspots out of the game. Triggering a chainreaction an any of the cannisters they carry never effects the sac webbings, so with those two the plasma explosion may still not be as effective as I wish it was, but it does help to get them down a little faster. and Funfact: The Berserk Arrows work on human enemies too. Putting those in a heavy gunner helps to clear out a camp or an outpost.
@Fraukie Thanks! And you're certainly not the only one be confused by those icons! They were confusing to me at first in Zero Dawn and I know they have been confusing to a lot of people in Forbidden West as well. Glad I could clear that up for you!
I just started playing HFW. After about 80 hours of play I still haven't found a purgewater weapon other than the baloon trap, lol. I also havent been able to shoot a thunderjaw's heart because all thunderjaws make it a priority to either face me, or face away. And yes the slow state is useless for me. HFW is very challenging compared to HZD 😁
Definitely much more challenging than HZD! You should be able to pick up the Purgewater hunter bow in Scalding Spear. And yeah, the Tjaws are much harder and more protective of their hearts! I focus on the data nexus hidden under their head armor plates instead.
Great video. One addition I'd like to make: You said that the impact damage of elemental weapons doesn't matter much and that plasma is weak. This is both true. With one exception: The Boltblaster. Especially the elemental one. And even better in combination with the skill "sustained burst". If a machine is weak against an element and you open up on it with the sustaned burst of an elemental Boltblaster, you can actually kill it pretty fast. Or at least hurt it seriously. Specters in particular go down very fast with this. So it has its niche. Maybe they do something more with it in the future, but there are already so many combinations...
@GODzilla GSPB Thanks! And good point. Yeah Sustained Burst on a bolt blaster is great. I use it a lot with advanced bolts, but that’s a good point with elemental bolts. I suppose the small damage increase for a machines elemental weakness would be multiplied across all those bolts, so it would be much stronger. I’ll have to play with that some more. Thanks for sharing that tip!
My idea for plasma: It can combine with other elements. The extra bar would be replaced by any other elemental build ups while plasma is active. If the other elements are full, the explosion would act like a canister does, dealing a lot of damage while also instantly applying the elemental state. It would also have a very wide area of effect allowing for crowd control.
Ive recently got hardcore into horizon fw after starting it then putting it down on release (destiny player). Your guides are next level, efficiency on the grind is important to me and im using your coil doc too, so thanks for that. I wish your channel the best.
Hey thanks a lot Paul! Glad you’re finding my content helpful and enjoying Horizon 😁 I appreciate your comment!

I agree with pretty much everything. Plasma should definitely make a bigger blast and give a slight animated warning build up a couple of seconds before it blows (I don't like using icons) and it should not override other states I think. Same with adhesive, it should work with other states, but perhaps freezing a slowed enemy would make the adhesive brittle too, breaking it faster and like someone said, it could be very flammable. Purge water should make the enemy weak to frost and shock, not only remove the resistance but it could perhaps resist fire and maybe acid and adhesive too, not sure about plasma. Berserk should definitely work alongside other states. Not sure if it does? They really could make these elements and their states more interesting and complex, it would add a lot of longevity to the game if balanced correctly I think.
Great points! Yeah I think with some small adjustments like the ones you suggested all these elements we generally don't use much could be a lot of fun!
fire damage not only was heavily nerfed in comparison to ZD, but also corruptors lost their overheat mechanic in FW. It would be so cool if putting machines on fire made additional weak points appear or provide access to existing ones with opening armor plates
The damage icons on shredders etc are deliberate. If the icon is an elemental icon, the damage can be increased by elemental coils but not impact coils. If the icon is impact, the damage can be increased by impact coils but not elemental coils.
Correct. Yeah I realize there’s a difference between elemental shredders and elemental arrows, but I guess the point I was making was that the impact damage difference on elemental arrows is so small that I don’t think it’s worth the confusion that they double electro icons cause. In my opinion, it would be less confusing if they changed the elemental arrows impact damage icons to look like the regular impact damage icons.
Hey, could you make a video on machines that drop rare loot? Like, often I need HEAPS of certain items and they are always so difficult to come by. Using Legendary weapons is something I want to do all the time but at the moment I often opt to use purple weapons simply because I don't have the resources for that particular ammo. If there could be a video on the different loot needed for legendary weapons and the best way to get them that could help me SO much. Thanks and I love your content!!!
This was a fantastic video. Definitely wish I would have discovered this before I beat the game. lol. I can utilize this information when new game plus arrives. You've earned a new subscriber. Much respect.
I’ve only just picked up a ps5 so I’m late to the party, this is such an excellent video and so well presented. I hope all this stuff is still relevant and hasn’t been patched and changed too much. Have a sub sir. I’m gonna go binge watch some more of your guides now.
Thank you for this! I learned that the top numbers do not relate to the buildup factors and are impact damage numbers. I thought they didnt have impact and they were just for elemental shots and buildup so you showed me that they have value beyond that. I had not used acid arrows enough to realize that armor plating drops off after a while. This makes it so much easier to get to the parts underneath that i find hard to target during combat. And i really had no idea what purgewater did and learning that it negates all resistances is really cool
Glad to hear this was helpful! In particular, I’m glad I was able to clear up those elemental damage numbers. That’s something I used to be confused by and I suspected a lot of other people were too, so I’m happy to here that bit helped 🙂 And yes, purgewater and acid are very useful too!
I really love the corrosive blast sling. Fully upgraded and with acid coils it can put a lot of large machines in corroded state after just one or two bombs.
The reason elemental ammo (aside from Shredder Gauntlet ammo) has elemental symbols instead of Impact symbols is because the ammo deals elemental damage, not impact. You can tell because when you put a coil of the corresponding element onto the weapon, the damage goes up, and the base damage will also vary depending on whether the target is resistant or weak to that element.
@Machrochenia Yes! Good point on the coils changing both stats. I probably should have shown that to illustrate my point. I did explain very briefly that the damage numbers are affected by a machines elemental strengths/weaknesses. I guess the point I was trying to make here is that the top stat is closer to an impact damage stat than an elemental buildup stat (in my mind anyway). It doesn't contribute to elemental buildup, it just does damage directly to the machine. What I was trying to get across is that I'd personally rather see an impact damage icon there because I think an elemental icon is misleading and confusing. When I'm looking at elemental ammo I really don't care how much direct damage it does to a machine's health, I know it's going to be minor. All I really care about is the buildup stat since I'm trying to apply an elemental state. I guess it's really just personal preference whether you call that top number "elemental damage" or "impact damage" that happens to be nerfed/buffed based on a machine's elemental strengths/weaknesses.
Thanks! Yeah I was really hoping for a rebalance with The Burning Shores DLC, but it didn’t happen. Hopefully we get a content update at some point that brings a rebalance.
I agree with you about the plasma. However, the adhesive is only meant to slow down enemies not completely neutralise them. That is the rope state's job when you tie down the enemies so it's ok for me
First time viewer. Excellent video. Well put together. Easy to listen to. No hate, but although some other video guides have a lot of good information (I'm looking at you, JorRaptor), the speaking is very fast which can make it hard to digest what was just said and then you have to rewind and listen to it all over again. That said, I'm subbed. I'm all the way to the last main mission, but I'm holding off and grinding for some weapons and weapon upgrades I want to take into the last chapter. Thanks for being a helpful guide to the rest of us on the same journey!
Jesus Crist i was a pro on zero dawn and i find my self so rookie on this one, but this video teach me soo much on stuff i ignored because i though was the same. Thanks you.
It feels like adhesive should have an elemental synergy, like it being combustable so you could trigger a strong burning state etc.
@Kukakkau Good idea! I like it. That would be really cool!
Agreed! Elemental synergy would be sooo great with every element in my opinion. Imagine the multiple types of strategies and weapon-combos players could use! c:
I thought it did, like how drenched leads to brittle. Adhesive should lead to burn. Shock could lead to plasma or whatever idc
Get this man on the dev team immediately.
unless it was a rubber based adhesive. then it would not work with shock ammo.
The BEST explanation of the different elements in HFW hands down. Loving watching your channel blow up, very well deserved!

Yeah me too but I would really like to try your normal however I still struggle when I play this game is easy mode! 😅

Snap Maws also go into a stunned state when burning.
Agreed, plasma can stagger the flying machines twice. First when it was first triggered and again when the explosion happens at the end of the effect.
Interesting point! I guess I have done that, but I never thought about using it specifically just to ground them. I’ll give that a try. Thanks for suggesting it!
Isn’t any element status once triggered will always ground flying machines? Unless plasma ground them permanently that be interesting
@@jerrylo559 they all can but plasma from what I’ve experienced is best and adhesive is also good for flying machines and small machines
I wish I read this before grinding some fireclaws yesterday to upgrade the Sun scourge bow. It's a great tip.
@MrKayoed Nice tip! I'll have to give that a try. Thanks for sharing it!
That's how I usually try to play, is by stealth.
Of course, sometimes I get discovered and fight some out in the open.
But then I run around, get out of sight, wait till they 'give up' searching, and resume stealthing.
Finally a non clickbait - no bullshit video, based in logic and legit experimentation. Thank you
Lol thanks Bryce! That's what I'm going for on this channel, so I'm glad to hear you found this video useful! 😄
Hey thanks! I’m glad you found this helpful, and I really appreciate your sub! 😄
It’s insane how much of this I didn’t know lol and I’m like 40 hours in… 🤦🏻♂️ thanks man!
Glad you were able to pick up some tips!
Just so you know man, a yearater and ur video are still apreciated
Hey thanks! I appreciate that 🙏🏼😁
Im from Germany and i dont understand all. But this Video is so great. my playing style has completely changed. best wishes from Germany
Thank you! Glad you found this helpful 😄
You can always come to Arktix discord server, there are some germans around.
Ummm...yeah...I NEEDED this! It was really well explained and informative. I never noticed the extra bar with the Plasma and generally avoided using it because I found it weak. Thanks for clearing up most of the questions I had. Great job on this video!
Hey thanks Daniel! I’m glad to hear you found this helpful! 😄
Yeah I agree it would be nice if you could maybe buff fire and corrosion with coils so they could do more damage over time.
With corrosion the appeal is the armor damage, the DoT is just a bonus. Fire definitely needs a strength increase though I agree
this was fantastic. Thank You! I had to take a pause in playing the game after a few days to try and understand how these elements worked but your TH-cam video made all the difference!
Awesome! Glad to hear this was helpful 😄 I hope you’re enjoying the game!
At least that's what it seems to be to me 😅
All up though, definitely glad your vid came up in my feed, was worth watching.
Hey thanks! Glad to hear you found this useful as an Ultra Hard from scratch player 😁 Yeah using elements is really important in Horizon!
Thank you. The in game tutorials were not exactly the best when concerning explaining the new elements. You did a better job explaining it here, than the game could. I appreciate the effort that went in to this. :)
Hey thanks a lot! I’m glad you found this helpful 😄 Yeah the game doesn’t do much to explain this stuff!
Thank you so much for this, I always thought acid was useless on rollers but now pairing it with explosives SHREDDES their armor
You're very welcome! Glad you found this helpful!
I knew a majority of this, but what I learned that was most valuable:
What those numbers next to the weapons actually mean.
Also, I haven’t forgotten about machine hunting guides 😉 They’re coming!
@@ArktixOfficial Man, your machine hunting guides are essential. It's the difference between liking and enjoying the hell out of this game.
Lol thanks!
I'm glad people still talk about this game. This game has a lot to offer
@Sonny Thanks! Yeah I totally agree purgewater becomes more and more useful the further you get.
I appreciate the little breakdown of berserk, it completely flew under my radar but corruption was one of my favorite things to mess with in ZD, even on ultra hard, so I’ll be grabbing that arena bow for sure now
Glad you found that part helpful!
I just found this channel yesterday because of the new weapons video. And wow even though I already platinum'd the game months ago, I can't stop watching! After Bloodborne I might do new game + after grinding all the legendary weapons! I look forward to future videos even on other games!
Hey thanks Hector! I’m glad to hear you enjoy my videos 😄 Thanks for your comment!
I must say your videos are the best for Horizon Forbidden west. It is my go to channel to learn and you explain it really well. Keep up this great work.
@Nissar Ebrahim SA Thank you! It’s definitely my goal to be the go-to Horizon channel!
Incredible video. So useful and to the point, with zero unnecessary information. Well done!
Hey thanks! Glad to hear you found this useful 😄
Thanks for the vid! I was just asking myself what do these two numbers for each arrow actually mean.
Thanks! Glad you found this helpful 😁
purge water traps were surprisingly useful for me
@Brandon Garrett Interesting! I can't say I've used purgewater traps much. I'll have to play with them some more.
Best Horizon content on TH-cam, you deserve all the followers and success that will follow 👏🏻
@stevemc Thank you so much! I’m glad you’re enjoying my content 😄
I felt like I was a student in a post-secondary class listening to the professor - great work
@Gel Lol thank you! 😄 I'm glad you found it informative!
Yes good point!
As someone returning to Horizon for the first time since the last tile, this video was super useful! Great job!!
Hey thanks! Glad you found my channel 😄 Hope you’re finding my content helpful and enjoying the game!
@@ArktixOfficial This game is bigger and better in every way.
Totally! Yeah I love it 😄
Been playing since release and I had no clue that purgewater removed the machines elemental strengths, Super helpful to know, thanks.
No problem! Glad you found that tip helpful 😄 The game definitely doesn’t do a good job explaining what purgewater does lol
Really helpful - and a concise and well edited video. I’ve played plenty of Horizon but haven’t finished and wasn’t sure exactly what was going on with plasma and purgewater so thanks for this.
Thank you! I’m glad you found it helpful. Yeah the new elements are definitely not intuitive!
6:28 you appear to be lining up my perfect shot, i'm glad you could come up with i too
Haha yeah I enjoyed taking those Tjaws down as fast as possible in HZD 😄
I already know the gameplay mechanics but this video kept me hooked
@L.I.T.F. Awesome! I’m glad you enjoyed it 😄
I feel like they kept the elemental symbol because it can still fluctuate based on a machines resistance or weakness. Unlike regular impact damage that doesnt fluctuate.
Yup that’s absolutely right. I just think the icons confuse people, so I’d prefer it looked a little different.
This is what I was looking for, proper explanation of the weapon system. Very nice man 👌👌
Thank you! I'm glad you found this helpful!
Hell yeah, thanks dude!! I can finally get more concentration +15% coils. I'm on my 4th playthrough but only have 1 since I had no clue it existed until I watched one of your earlier videos.
Awesome! Yeah I love that 15% concentration coil!
Most informative elements guide I've ever seen I like your opinions. Thanks man..been figuring it all out myself and had me confused
Awesome! Thank you so much! I’m glad you found it helpful!
I've just finished the main story, but I'm learning so much with these guides of yours. Good stuff man! Certainly very useful as I sweep through the whole map and proceed to the burning shores. Glad I found your channel 😁
Hey thanks! And welcome 🙂 Glad you’re finding my content helpful!
The best description of elemental damage and associated weapons...
Thanks Kevin! I appreciate that! 😄
Wow this was a great video explaining things. I had no idea how purgewater worked and you explained it quite well. Thanks a bunch!
@IzzyBoy Awesome! I'm glad you found this helpful! That's definitely my goal! 😄
Shooting the elemental canisters is something I should take advantage of more often, didn't know this very well
@HUYI1 Definitely! Triggering canister explosions is a very useful tactic!
Thank you for showing me that there’s much more to this game than I initially anticipated really cool
First time viewer and i loved it. Fact filled and to the point without dramatics or apeing. Professional and informative. Subbed.
@Jason Case Awesome! Thank you so much! And I really appreciate your sub! 🙏
Man I wish I'd found this before I started. I figured most of this out, but it was harder going than I expected. Even on normal these machines are ruthless.
Forbidden West is definitely tough! I hope maybe this helped for a NG+ playthrough!
@@ArktixOfficial It is. Much appreciated, this is an excellent channel.
Plasma is a bit underwhelming but I love it for Apex stormbirds and Dreadwings because one to two precision plasma arrows from Forgefall will apply plasma state to them and make them fall to the ground
Yes! Plasma is good for making aerial machines fall. Although applying any elemental state will do the same.
I found using the spikes with fire does large amounts of damage. Although I'm biased, I love using the spikes :)
Interesting tactic! I haven’t tried that. I’ll have to test it out. Thanks for suggesting it!
I’m finally progressing in the game & was wondering about the new elements, thanks for the awesome video!
@ClauClau You're very welcome! I'm glad you found this helpful!
This guy's content (and subsequently whole channel, for that matter) is the shit. Best HFW videos that are out there in my opinion. I would love to see more machine-specific videos. Keep up the good work man, I'll be watching 👍
EDIT: GBoard autocorrected "watching" to "sexting".
Thanks 🙏🏼
This is the best guide ever
I didn't understand purgewater before this. Thank you
No problem! Glad I could clarify it for you! 😄
This has to be the best Horizon guide channel out there.
Thank you! That's very kind 😄 I hope you're finding my content helpful!
@@ArktixOfficial Very helpful. The presentation is crisp and very well done.

Catching up on your videos. This one was quite helpful - a good refresher along with some new tips. Thanks so much for your HFW content.
Thank you! I’m glad you found this helpful!
Great Tutorial, I confess I didn't get the Damage Symbols on the Element Ammo right either, I thought the upper one had to do with direkt Elemental Damage and the one beneath would show the damage over time once the Elemental status is reached thx for clearing that!
One thing about the Plasma Ammo:
You are right that the damage the explosion deals is disappointing but I like to use it when I take down Apex Fire- and Frostclaws.
Taking them down while keeping their sac webbings intact limits what weapons and ammo can be used and puts the best and biggest weakspots out of the game.
Triggering a chainreaction an any of the cannisters they carry never effects the sac webbings, so with those two the plasma explosion may still not be as effective as I wish it was, but it does help to get them down a little faster.
and Funfact:
The Berserk Arrows work on human enemies too.
I beat the game 2 days ago but I still find this video useful and actually learned a thing or two. Thank you. (Liked the video as well)
@Fatih Bahcivan Thanks! I’m glad you found this helpful! And thank you for liking it! It really does help! 🙏🏼
Thank you! I was so confused on purgewater. Thanks for helping!
Glad you found this helpful!
thanks iv been having trouble with the bigger machines cant wait to try this out
You’re very welcome! I hope these tips help!
Thank you for explaining it, no wonder i hate the adhesive and plasma when i did hunting trials
No problem! And yeah adhesive and plasma are really not great 😕
My idea for plasma: It can combine with other elements. The extra bar would be replaced by any other elemental build ups while plasma is active. If the other elements are full, the explosion would act like a canister does, dealing a lot of damage while also instantly applying the elemental state. It would also have a very wide area of effect allowing for crowd control.
Ooo cool idea! I like it!
Extremely helpful! The use of elements stumped me the most in the game. Thank you!
This was a fantastic video. Definitely wish I would have discovered this before I beat the game. lol. I can utilize this information when new game plus arrives. You've earned a new subscriber. Much respect.
@Jay Grayson Thank you! Sorry I couldn’t get it out earlier, but I’m glad you found it helpful! And thank you for your sub! I appreciate it! 🙏🏼
What a wonderful video. Great presentation. Clear, concise and informative. Keep it up
@Terence Thank you that's very kind! I'm glad you enjoyed it!

@Carlos Suazo Hey thanks! I appreciate it!
Really solid vid explaining the relevant elements in Horizon! I hope they do buff adhesive or that you can stack. Great video!
Thank you! Glad you liked the vid 😄 Yeah it would be sweet if adhesive was stronger or could stack.
I really love the corrosive blast sling. Fully upgraded and with acid coils it can put a lot of large machines in corroded state after just one or two bombs.
Adhesive is most effective on smaller, faster machines.
Great guide!
Thanks! And yes I’ve noticed the same thing with adhesive.
Personally I think acid is the 2nd most useful, it does some real damage especially to those weak of acid. Videos are on point!
Totally! Yeah I'd agree with that. And thank you! Glad you're liking my content 😄
As a veteran player I really agree with your remarks on elements, and I hope Guérilla will eventually make these changes !
Thanks! Yeah I was really hoping for a rebalance with The Burning Shores DLC, but it didn’t happen. Hopefully we get a content update at some point that brings a rebalance.
I agree with you about the plasma. However, the adhesive is only meant to slow down enemies not completely neutralise them. That is the rope state's job when you tie down the enemies so it's ok for me
True. I guess I just wish adhesive would slow down them down a bit more.
This has both helped and made my head spin, but mostly very helpful😂 Thank you!
Haha sorry! I know it’s a lot 😅 Glad it was mostly helpful though!
@Dan Mazzone Thank you! This is a very kind compliment 😊 I'm glad you're finding these helpful, and thank you for your sub! I appreciate it! 🙏
Jesus Crist i was a pro on zero dawn and i find my self so rookie on this one, but this video teach me soo much on stuff i ignored because i though was the same. Thanks you.
