  • First kayak fishing trip of 2023 on the Western South shore of Long Island. Managed to land a handful of bass ranging from 20" to 31" using an EliasV Mackinaw Shad worked with pauses in the retrieve. The diving birds gave away locations of actively feeding fish. It appeared that the fish were feeding on small bay herring. Started fishing around 2 hours after high tide.
    Kayak - Old Town Sportsman 120 PDL
    Lure Used - EliasVFishing Mackinaw Shad in Olive/Silver pattern
    Rod - St Croix Mojo Bass 7' Medium Heavy Fast (freshwater MJS71MHF)
    Reel - Penn Spinfisher 2500 w/ Berkley 15# x9 Braid
    Gopro in the rear and Sony Action Cam on bow

      Thank you sir! With all the wind noise from that day i had to do the voice over, but i think i'll stick to that pattern as it seems like a good way to narrate

    Good stuff. Fellow fisherman & kayaker from RI here 🙋🏻
    Wanted to ask after watching...you ever think about upgrading the reel handle/knob to a power knob? You left hand was all over the place on that Spinfisher bro! Crazy slippin' & slidin' 😅 Power knob is much better, IMO.
    Love the 2x4 mod to the beach wheels to keep the 'yak aligned while rolling to the launch spot👌🏼

      Hey man, thanks. I haven’t thought about upgrading the reel handles on my spinning gear, never really noticed a problem!

    Awesome video! Felt like I was along for the trip. Can you tell me what kind of boat that is and what all modifications you have on it?

      Thanks! The boat is an Old Town Sportsman 120 PDL. I’ve done quite a bit of work on it over the winter, some of the big changes for this season were raising the seat up 2” in the rear and 1” in the front, swapping out the factory pedals for some mountain bike pedals, and putting a new electrical system in and through the hull. I may do a video in the future walking through the kayak setup itself

    What were the other rods rigged with that you had on your boat?

    • @CityLineOutdoors
      @CityLineOutdoors  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had one with a tube and worm rig for trolling and another with a small topwater spook, had another ultralight setup on the boat that wasn't rigged. Trolled for a few minutes until i saw the birds then i just threw the swim shad

    Great video my man !!! ... I own the same kayak in orange but the AP version of the old town 120 and I launch on the other side closer to the handball/basketball side. Maybe we will run into each other this year. Good luck and keep catching

      Thanks man, i have this reel spooled with 15 pound berkley x9 braid, first time using this line personally. Seemed to preform as expected and didnt give me trouble with wind knots.
