Sergei Lyapunov 12 Transcendental Etudes, Op. 11 No. 10 "Lezghinka" in B minor Performer : Anastasia Rizikov Original Video : • Anastasia Rizikov | Ly...
This is No. 10 from Lyapunov's 12 Transcendental Etudes, which were meant to "complete" Liszt's Transcendental Etudes. Liszt originally intended to write 24 of them in each key, but ended up writing only 12 in flats (plus C major & A minor). So Lyapunov's Etudes are all in sharps! You can actually find a very similar passage from Liszt's 10th Etude here : 1:34 This particular piece is also heavily influenced by Balakirev's Islamey. Lots of crazy hand-crossing chords, left hand arpeggios that span a huge range, and the rythm. The key B minor is also the relative minor of D major, which appears in the middle section of Islamey. The middle section of this piece is in D flat major, which is the key of Islamey! Also the overall structure of fast interlocking chords - slow and calm middle section - climax - return to the first theme - loud ending with descending interlocking chords - is exactly the same. Very good piece overall.
I'm glad people actually play this piece. Very obscure and hardly known but truly beautiful
He had really mastered the style of Liszt, peak romantic af! Thank you for introducing me to a new underrated composer!! 🎉
I hear a lot of scheherazade as well - 2:13
Does anyone know if this is was a knowing reference or just a coincidence?
