Coraline and The Nightmare Before Christmas were both directed by the same guy (Henry Selick) and it's easy to see just looking at the style, ironically people always assume that Tim Burton directed both of them

Yeah, he wrote a poem while working for Disney, self inserting as Jack, feeling like he didn’t fit and was only doing horrible, like Jack trying to make Xmas. Couple years later, he produced that movie, but beside giving the crew that poem and a couple of drawings he had made of the characters, he didn’t do anything for that movie (and as we learned some years later, he actually hated “musicals”…) Fun fact: this movie was NOT made for Disney. It was made for a competitor, and the inspiration is basically how bad Burton felt working for them doing cheery things. Disney ended up with the rights to it years later, when they bought Buena Vista, the company that owned it. But yeah, Henry Selick should have gotten MUCH MORE credits for this movie. And actually, Henry Selick’s name was supposed to be in Tim Burton’s place on the posters, but marketing decided Burton’s name would sell more, and changed it at the last minute.
Composer Danny Elfman is one of the greatest film composers of all time and performs the singing voice of Jack Skellington. It's an extremely catchy score...
I honestly thought that this was going to be a rewatch. The idea that you, YOU, had never seen this absolute classic never once occurred to me. There are very few perfect movies in my estimation, and this is one of them.
Hot take: it's a Thanksgiving movie. Between both holidays, focuses on holiday malise and the want for something new, companionship saves the day, etc.
I’ve gone so long without watching this movie. I finally did this Halloween and I was so upset with myself for not joining the hype. Nightmare will now officially be my personality during Halloween and Christmas time 😂
It really is the best of both worlds. Watch it at Halloween, then again at Christmas. Also, Jess, it makes me feel terribly old to hear that you weren't even born when this was released. Glad you finally watched it and enjoyed. So many classic shots and lines and songs and so on . . .

Danny Elfman, who wrote the songs and is Jack's singing voice.. had a fairly popupar band back in the day called Oingo Boingo (kind of a new wave ska band). Then he got hired by Paul Reubens to do the soundtrack for PeeWees Big Adventure, became pals with Tim Burton on that movie, and became one of the great modern movie and TV composers.
One of my top favorite movies because it is the best crossover movie between Halloween and Christmas. Which means it counts watching it for both holidays imo 😄
I truly believe that this film is both a Halloween and Christmas film combined into one awesome yet underrated masterpiece. Tim Burton truly did an amazing job making this.
He actually didn't make it, at least from a production standpoint. He was busy directing Batman Returns. He came up with the story, and left it all to the director.
Danny Elfman is a friggen genius. Yeah, the story and characters were fun. Yeah, the directing and visuals were great. But the music is what _makes_ this movie. I am not a festive spirit by nature, I don't much care for Halloween and just about detest Christmas, but the soundtrack for this movie does kinda put me in the mood for Christmasy Halloween and Halloweeny Christmas.

Second oogie boogie was originally supposed to be doctor finklestein instead of a bag of bugs but Tim Burton on set one day accidentally knocked a hole into one of the sets so they fixed the hole but didn't have money to do the doctor so they made oogie a bag of bugs.

The vibes is right. Today when I'm seeing this video, Nightmare Before Christmas and Home Alone both got an NFR induction by the Library of Congress. They've been kinda stingy in the past about including Christmas films, and the exceptions tend to be things that have an above-average artistic power or a genre bend outside of Christmas itself. This is also the first time they've inducted Tim Burton's work AND inducted a stop-motion puppet film with a 60+ minute runtime. The "bone daddy" remark is supposed to characterize the street band as members of the Beat Movement. Alas, no one born after 1986 knows what beatniks are.
