Thanks for covering this. I’m excited for it. A lot of people are mentioning a sequel to Alien Isolation, but I’m more than happy to get a tactical/strategy game in this series.
What's funny is that the developers behind Alien Isolation are primarily known for their RTS games so it's a bit odd that they're not working on this game considering their work on the franchise and experience in strategy games.

For anyone who hasn't already played, this game is like an Alien meets XCom 2, with some The Thing (PS2/XBox) morale mechanics instead of fatigue. It works. And it's pretty badass.
I thought this would be the case. Is it as hard as XCOM2? I never beat it cuz it was too dang hard. I think I beat The Thing back in the day but I can't remember. That game was fun as hell too and I wish they would remake it.
@@chicagotalkshowhost I have been playing on easy, and it's harder than Xcom2, but for different reasons. The game mechanics are very different, and there is a wild card in the randomness of it all. ADD has made me rage quit so many times, because i just got rofl stomped. But continue game from the last save, and everything is fine. It's frustrating, but very good. It's probably my poor understanding of the game mechanics, TBH, but the game is good if you liked the "Aliens" movie. A lot of very good callbacks, and the game is just fun to play. Barring the occasional "You must pay for your lack of vision" moments. But reloading is always an option. Well worth the money, IMHO. I suspect that future play throughs will go much better, as my understanding of the game gets better. Had the same learning curve with Xcom and Xcom2. Initially i was peeved about how the game played, but once i figured out how to game the system, it started to get really fun!

It reminds me too much of XCOM2 and how difficult that was--a game I repeatedly throughout the years tried to beat and never could. Instead, I got this medieval hack and slash multiplayer game, Mordhau, yesterday and stayed up 'till 4am playing that as it was just released on console a few days ago. That's been a lot of fun---total gorefest too.
Looks great, I think the squads seem a bit too bunched up at times though, maybe add like a meter extra distance between so they're not firing past each other's ear drums haha
@Anuma Welp, in the movies actors had basic military training, Al Matthews was sergeant in marines I believe. They fire real guns on set etc. I believe they have more realism than you think :P
So glad this is coming instead of isolation 2. Love squad games, and the fact that each Marine will do what they are best suited to when given orders is awesome.
If you just like Alien Colonial Marines part instead of horror, i recommend Space Station 13, the Colonial Marines server, its a F2P fan-made 2D game that can run even in a toaster, however for a 2D game the graphics are quite above average, anyway, the game is really inspired on Alien 2 and general Alien lore focusing on the USCM, most of the game iconic weapons are in the game, the server normally goes from 75 players to sometimes 200 players playing at the same time, is amazing (just don't let Disney know about it)
If you like Turn Based Strategy Games (thus XCom), I highly suggest Marvel Midnight Suns (Made by the same people)... It's one of the best TBS games I've ever played. Absolutely amazing.

@@donnycageMidnight Suns is good but it ain't no Xcom. It's a superhero card game. We want more Xcom type combat games like Gears Tactics, Aliens Dark Descent etc.
Tactics games are a bit different then rts's though there are a lot of similiarties. (Less focused on resources and more on moment to moment decision making) Hopd you have fun with this one! (And if you dig it xcom and midnight suns are both excellent)
I'll wait for a sale (PC). I'm curious to see how the stress mechanic is implemented. I have yet to play a game where managing stress is not an absolute chore. I did not enjoy it in XCOM; Nor did I enjoy it in Darkest Dungeon.
If you want to lower your aggression meter use an elevator or rest to create a save point y and reload your save. Resets the aggression Metter or at least it lowers it. Was about to get hit by an onslaught if I was spotted again saved and came back to my game later and the meter was reset. I've check to see if it works and so far it has everytine. Not sure if it's a bug or intentional but it'll make your run a bit easier if you aren't good at stealthily. Unfortunately it doesn't help with stress or injuries on marines. Also if spotted Going up a floor will end the hunt right away and stop your marines stress level from constantly increasing while being hunted and you are waiting for the hunt to end. Those are 2 things that I've noticed while playing at least and have helped me on harder difficulties.
We did not even fight a matriarch alien queen in Aliens: Fireteam Elite as the Pathogen queen, is a surrogate of what a true alien queen it should ever be. That said, I won't keep my hopes up for the king, as it is already enough if we will be able to face a proper hive xeno queen herself there though.🤷🏻♂️

@@MLPDethDealr32 I don't think a prequel dude, since it takes place 15 years after the events of ALIEN. I believe it's set in-between ALIEN, and ALIENS. So, a sequel would/should be fine. They even have comic books that were released after the game that show Amanda Ripley teaming up with a Marine/Marines to fight the Xenomorth horde.
I liked Fireteam Elite if they just woulda let you do more with the game I woulda been happy for it still play it Maybe make a couple more option like hacking terminals going in vents welding coulda made it better.
I hate the stress part. Can't walk a few steps without stress going up. And the fact your squad can't destroy xenos nests. Overall, it's a good 7.5/10.
Really enjoyable and uses the retro Cassette Futurism aesthetic of the original film and isolation, can be considered a semi sequel to Alien Isolation and set in a universe in which the computer revolution of the 1990s never happened , cold war went on well into the 21st century etc and in no way is the Prometheus series canon, they are enjoyable but a spin off alternate universe series
Is there a way to individually move the soldiers ? from the footage ive seen everyone all moves together as a team, but it would be nice to control each persons movements
you can move soldiers separately but you wont want them to far away from each other anyways, but i have a feeling that when they get under attack they move to the closest cover, and when you order marines to interact with objects the marine thats best equiped will do the objective.

In some vids, it looks like one marine is selected at the bottom of the screen… and when they moving as a unit, all marines are selected at the bottom. Having formations would be good for when they move as a unit, and been able to crouch to fire more accurately. Would love a aliens game done in the same game play as XCOM. But this looks similar in parts… looking forward to it. Just can’t decide if to preorder it for pc or ps5.
Marines move as a squad other than interacting which sends a single marine, all the X COM elements are there just with an RTS alien spin. Looks fantastic as well.
I noticed it says squad of 4 marines. But on various videos, I’ve seen 4, 5 and even 6 marines in the unit. Also read a review earlier, where they said they controlled a marine individually 🤔 Wonder if they actually mean on its own, or the marine left the unit, and did an action? But they did say they positioned the marines individually so each took a fire point for cover

Honestly I think they could add a multiplayer mode where multiple squads are inserted into a mission, either cooperating to complete the mission or competing against each other directly or indirectly.
@@user-ol9ck7ig2f ehh disable it from multiplayer matches, make the time dilation a limited use, so you could have say 10-15 seconds of time dilation. Maybe earning more in round. But that way a player can’t just hold a time dilate and slow everyone down the whole round.
It is really like X-Com but it is not X-Com, it has many good features making real sense like stress and ammo count, command points but I do think the penalties are more than enough and during the level, aliens can respawn but your supplies like ammo and medkit are limited or hard to find, which forces you to go stealth most of the time. Also, the cover system is not on par with X-Com, in X-Com games, the cover system is well developed, you have full cover, half cover and even some destructible covers which make you think the way you move your soldiers. But in aliens dark descent, aliens are running too fast and the cover system just doesn't work for dealing with them, you just either go stealth or gather enough supplies to prepare ahead and make the fight. To be honest, I used cheat last 2 days of play to make my marines level up faster, then the game seems good to me, perhaps I am bad at real time managing squad.

They needed to make Alien Isolation x Fireteam Elite. You and the Xenos need to be super deadly. Marines obviously have superior tactics and firepower. But the Xenos have cunning and absolute death at close range. Not to mention different xeno breeds. THAT would be the best Alien game to date.
Because it's an indie studio from France, besides it's only single player - I don't think it will have a lot of replayability, either way it looks amazing to me.
Sooooo what the hell am I supposed to do when all the marines are in the medical bay? I’m just not supposed to play the game for 3 days straight so some AI can catch his breath?
When will we get actual gameplay? Why havent the developers given away a few keys to some streamers to prove they have something that holds up? Game is out in a week, and the chestburster inside me is eating up my guts in worry this will be another dud game. o_O

A 60-70$ game doesn’t guarantee quality. The most recent example being Golem. What should worry us are the review embargos and lack of coverage. Usually when a big name game is dark until launch, it means the game has problems or it’s a quick cash grab.
Why can’t they just do isolation with guns it’s not that hard instead get dumb ai with fireteam then squad based shooter??!?! That’s horror squad based shooter wtf

I like these games, and kinda wish more games be like this, combat is a bit more faster paced than things like xcom, but keeping the concept of it.

I dont think AFTE was trying to capture horror. Its a hoard mulit player shooter. An excellent one at that 👏 👌
It's more action based than horror pretty much like the movies Aliens but I do think they could add some tactical systems to improve that.
The Planetary Infestation level reminds me of Red Solstice 2 planetary infestation, looking forward to this game.
I’m *really* hoping that Dark Descent goes on to influence other, similar games. A W40K game presented in the same way could be really interesting.

Also ot doesn't reset the meter to zero it just resets it to whatever aggression level you are on

not really possible with that. Alien Isolation is a prequel to the FIRST Alien movie. A sequel game wouldnt make sense.

Aliens Fireteam Elite should have been similar to this but in a first person format.

They needed to make Alien Isolation x Fireteam Elite. You and the Xenos need to be super deadly. Marines obviously have superior tactics and firepower. But the Xenos have cunning and absolute death at close range. Not to mention different xeno breeds. THAT would be the best Alien game to date.

Because it's an indie studio from France, besides it's only single player - I don't think it will have a lot of replayability, either way it looks amazing to me.

I am afraid that this game is going to be bad.. I hope I am wrong.. Not much news this close to launch, plus being $40.00 on day one is always a concern as well..
A 60-70$ game doesn’t guarantee quality. The most recent example being Golem.
What should worry us are the review embargos and lack of coverage. Usually when a big name game is dark until launch, it means the game has problems or it’s a quick cash grab.
