    Excellent video, congratulations and thanks for the help I received. I'm watching your videos as much as possible. Here we say that the location of your home is in the countryside, farm or colony. Just a calm, so I think. Strong hug from /Bre'zil/. Until.

    Hi, Jim. I found the descriptions of the parts you used. “I couldn’t see the forest for the trees!! They were flashed on the screen while you talked. When I stopped the video in order to write the information down the text was only partially viewable. So when your text came on I took a picture with my phone😊. I also worked in my greenhouse today. Can’t wait for planting time.

      Great! Glad you found that. I usually put a list down in the video description too, but you may have to expand that to see it below the video. Not sure if I did that for the video you are referring to. Yes, looking forward to garden time here too. I would love that early start a greenhouse provides. Hopefully I will set one up soon.

    Very cool setup! We're in the beginning phases of our solar project -- have the panels and that's all for now. :) Seeing yours is very helpful in wrapping our head around an economical ground mount.

    I would love to get a follow-up of the adjustable tilt design if you are moving to a new place v2. Will be building a similar set-up next year to Scandinavia where snow is plenty so having summer/winter mode would reduce snow maintenance

      So far everything is the same as in the original video I posted. We still do not yet have a move date. However, yes I will provide an update video when that happens. As I mentioned in one of my previous updates videos, if I were to build the tilting solar rack again, I would change the pivot point of the panels so the center of gravity is more suitable. Currently, most of the weight is on the downward side, thus making the panels a little heavy when changing the angle. If the pivot point was more centered, it would make that easier. I'm also thinking about adding a hand-crank in version 2.0. Thanks for your comment and good luck with your build! Best wishes!

    Just discovered the channel and have been catching up on the solar updates - very nice system you have going.
    For the adjustable solar panels just use a counter weight (i.e. a couple buckets of water hanging from the top of the struts) when adjusting them.

    When the market bottoms out I will find an inexpensive little house. I hope to get 3-5 acres. I will start with the chickens again and build a solar array. You have done such a great job.

    I dont understand why so many people that are using tilt adjustable mount systems make the rear horizontal mount so high up in the air. You can cut your rear height to almost half and get the panels overhanging the rear horizontal more to create more weight to the rear and that will help immensely with adjusting without bearing so much weight while adjusting the tilt angle. The whole front horizontal likely can be deleted.

    Looks like the Plants are throwing a lot of shade on the panels

    In regards to your HW Panel Rack . . . I wonder how heavy guage Pvc would work for the 4 legged base structure. The pvc industry has really been asleep at the wheel for the past 40 years and missed out on their potential. In the mean time, as far as those top & bottom cross beams how about joining some Trex together to make those ???

    • @jimginnyohio
      @jimginnyohio  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not sure that either pvc or Trex would be strong enough since there is a lot of weight to the panels. Add the possibility of strong winds and extreme weather! Instead, if I were to build another rack, I would use galvanized posts for the legs and then mount a couple parallel pieces of the strut material in place of the wooden header. It would be super strong and resistant to insects as well.

    Nice to find this site with all the varying videos! I have a question on the adjustable ground mount. Since the front of the panels are not anchored I'm wondering about the panels swaying back and forth in the wind. I see you attached the front edge of the panels together with the half-height unistrut. But it seems the whole unit would be subject to side-to-side play without any lateral bracing on the front edge.
    You were mentioning that the structure has done well in 50-60MPH winds. I'm just wondering what I'm missing.

    • @jimginnyohio
      @jimginnyohio  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi. Thanks for your comments! No problems with any side-to-side sway to date. Everything is still working well with the mount and the panels.

  • @ek9772
    @ek9772 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    You might want to setup your next ground mount about one feet higher to avoid the shading on the lower panels due to the plants in front.

    Since this is a public comment I’ll ask, is it possible to communicate with “Jim”
    I have been thinking “solar” for several months. I would like more specifics on “your” product acquisitions. I would like to duplicate what you have created. I am not speaking of the panel design alone.

    Carpenter bees do not like paint. You can spray white pound insecticide into the holes to kill the larvae.
