- Across the country on Monday, people looked up to catch a glimpse of the eclipse. Steve Hartman was more interested in the sight on the ground when his astronomy-loving son got to see it. They went "On the Road" to Nebraska for the experience.

I really look forward to Steve Hartman's pieces. They're not about politics, fires, floods, death & mayhem. They portray what life is about, what concerns the common folk of America. They tell how children feel about life, about the poor, veterans, and the factory worker going to buy his first brand new car. About random acts of kindness. That's the kind of news I'm interested in. Regardless of what salary CBS is paying him, he deserves a raise. He's the kind of guy I would like to share a burger & a beer with, to have as my neighbor, to confide my deepest, darkest concerns with. Just a really nice guy.
And Steve Hartman is my uncle...
I said yesterday he deserve an award, he and the production team. These are always heartfelt pieces. And his kids are absolutely precious
Autism one of the most blessings perfectly said Steve
I enjoyed this segment. George was more than happy to share his knowledge of astronomy. This was a great Dad moment for Steve. Thank you sharing that will all of us.
My two sons as well...one lives with me the other lives with his mother and lives 5 min away..the joy of watching with joy and contentment the maturity of your kids
Bless you!!! I love you even more now Mr. Hartman. Thank you for sharing your beautiful sons with us. My son James has Autism as well. This is wonderful :)
I remember the story Mr. Hartman did about his infant son and babies and how cute they are (or are not). His son's focus and love of astronomy I'm sure is difficult on a daily basis for his little brother but I'm sure he'll appreciate his big brother more and more as the years go on. :) Thank you for the many stories that connect us to each other. We certainly need those stories more than ever. May God bless you and your family always.
George reminds me of my son! My son also has autism and is into astronomy as well. Thank you for sharing your story and being relatable as well as to other families that have loved ones with autism. 💙💙
My little brothers have autism and both into space and everything about it
A "shrewd" idea... haha kids are the best! you literally can't make this stuff up! Steve Hartman is such a great reporter and human, and now we can add father to that list!
I never knew George is autistic. My respect for you Mr. Hartman, your family, and your stories are beyond some folks I know in my own life. You have raised 3 amazing kids there sir.
He sounds very mature for a 3rd grader. Reminds me of myself when I was his age.
Precious!
The little brother cracked me up. What a lovely family. George is gonna have to explain the multiverse to all of us one day. I'm sure he will!
George, i am sure NASA would love to hire you, once you are done with school.
Consider all the possibilities!!!! He certainly may do just that!!
Hopefully they get more funding that they need or he might have to go with SpaceX
Such a sweet family video, thank you for sharing; you are very blessed in your family and your job 😊
My daughter was exactly the same, only her area of interest was animals, from reptiles to sharks and dogs and cats. She didn’t read only reference books until 2d grade, and even then her fiction boks even were all the Harry Potter, one right after the other. She, too, could talk about her fave topic endlessly. Adults used to consult with her about which dog they should get for their family because she knew so much about each of the many breeds. And today? She breeds Bedlington Terriers and one of her dogs won an Award of Merit at the Westminster Dog Show in NY. I wonder where Steve’s son will go? It will be tough, no doubt, but having his parents fully support his interest is very helpful.
4 thumbs down as of Feb 2019, perhaps if they’d had the paternal influence and nurturing kindness of a gem like Steve, things might be looking.....“up”
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for sharing!
Wow, what an experience for him to have.
Steve, you are blessed to have two awesome sons, George and Emmett.
Lovely sons
maybe he could do one on the road about his son George's autism for awareness?
I LOVE the Hartman family George is amazing and Emmitt is too! 😇
Awesome!!
What a great way to end the night!
Steve, my wife and I were just over in Wyoming and saw an amazing eclipse on that day, too.
We are planning on going down to Texas for the next one...good time with your sons. It was well worth it.
Well done sir, well done
Nice story indeed. I envy those kids who have a father that actually cares and spends time with them. I hope someday that they know how truly lucky they are. Now Steve do you think it is too late to adopt a 61 year old so I can do cool things with you?
Great story
How awesome was that beautiful
God bless you sir
