    I realized recently the reason I loved the movie when I was a kid(as did many kids) was because it was live action Scooby Doo with grownups!

    HI LADIES!
    Believe-it-or-not, there’s ANOTHER movie (one of my all-time favorites) that’s similar to Clue, but (I think, anyway) even better…
    MURDER BY DEATH
    It’s a spoof with an all-star cast, and definitely leaves you guessing!

    The stage play is pretty fun. The high school I work at did it last year; we had fun setting up the set, with doors for all the rooms, etc. We painted the floor and platforms to match the board game.

    One thing I don't often see pointed out is that in the game, your can't overtake another piece. (Example: if one is in a doorway, you can't go through that door until that piece moves.) They did that in this movie up until Wadsworth starts running around explaining the murders. Any time the characters try to pass each other, they collide. Or when Scarlet and Mustard try to slide past each other. Once you notice, you see it happening all over.
    Funny/sad passage of time note. The movie came out in '85 but based in '54. If this movie came out now, in '24, it would be based in the '93...

      And to be fair, Wadsworth stuck to ANOTHER rule of the game, in that you have to be in the room where you're making an accusation about a character.

    Yay! I get to share my favorite piece of Clue trivia: The layout of the house (real exterior, interior studio set) is the same as the original board game - including which rooms are connected by the secret passages!

    • @TSIRKLAND
      @TSIRKLAND 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep! I love to point this out on reactors' channels. Such great attention to detail by the filmmakers!
      Also: Mr. Boddy could not have been poisoned, because Poison was not one of the original weapons. (There was an edition that came out several years after the film that had more rooms, more suspects, and more weapons- one of which was Poison. But that didn't come out 'til later; this was based on the original board game's weapons and floorplan..)

      @@TSIRKLAND So cool - I didn’t know that poison was ever incorporated into the game. Thx for the info! 🤗🧪

    There was an homage episode of the tv show "Psych" which featured many of the same actors from "Clue". It was really a terrific episode. Maybe you could consider doing a reaction to "Psych"? It is a comedy detective show about a man who was trained by his police officer father from the time he was a little kid to be ultra observant. He calls in tips to the police and is then accused of being in on the crime. He has to pose as a psychic to avoid being arrested. So, he becomes a fake psychic detective. I think you'd all love it.

    When this movie was released across the country, it was released with different endings depending on the location. So if you went to one theater, you might end up seeing ending 1. But if your friend went to another theater, they might have seen ending 2. Imagine the next day at school or work and your talking about the movie but everyone is completely confused about why they're all talking about different endings. Some newspapers would put what version it was so people could know what version they were seeing. so imagine going 3 times to see this movie in 3 different locations just to watch all 3 different endings. when it was released on home video they decided to have all 3 endings and they chose 3 as the actual ending.
    Also Mr. Green was gay. Remember that this is taking place in a time when he could have gotten fired for it, especially in the FBI. So in the end he says he's going to his wife in order to hide his sexuality from his boss.

      I thought the joke was that the gay thing was a lie the whole time

    • @CoastalSphinx
      @CoastalSphinx 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PhantomfaceStudios Right - in the ending where Mr. Green is an undercover FBI agent, he obviously doesn't actually work for the State Department, and I thought it was implied that the rest of his cover story (including him being gay) was equally fake.

    • @anonymsly
      @anonymsly 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@PhantomfaceStudiosI don’t see how it could be, myself - that Mr. Green was on the guest list, a government employee being blackmailed for being gay, means that Wadsworth - the blackmailer who obviously knew of this victim directly, since there was no informant for Mr. Green - would have known if he wasn’t actually Mr. Green. He lied at the end to stay closeted.

    The "flames on the side of my face" bit from Mrs White was the only bit of improv in the whole film. Madeline Khan forgot her lines and what she said was so funny rhey kept it in. The looks of confusion on Lloyd and Mull's faces were genuine reactions to her hilarious rambling.

    I think you need to rethink what you said at the end. How can they be being blackmailed and not know it?
    They all know they are being blackmailed, just they don't know that they have that in common with everyone else that attends. The letter implied that by coming they would be able to end the blackmailing.

    • @0okamino

    I've heard it hotly debated whether Green's closing line, "I'm gonna go home and sleep with my wife" means that his being gay was only ever part of his undercover identity, and he really does have a wife at home- or whether he really is gay, and he says that in front of his boss to hide it from him. My interpretation has always been the first: the gay thing was only part of his cover. Either way I feel it's a really weird line to end the whole movie on- even as part of only one possible ending. But whatever. As viewers, we can each have our own interpretation that's true for us; that's one of the things about books or films, etc. We all have a part to play in our own story-telling experience.

    • @anonymsly
      @anonymsly 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve always felt that Mr. Green actually was gay, if only because Wadsworth would have known if he wasn’t- Mr. Green was on the guest list, and since he had no informer that means Wadsworth (the blackmailer) had direct knowledge of him and his secret and would therefore have known if this Mr. Green was not the real one. It doesn’t make any sense to be a lie, because Wadsworth would have known.
