This episode was everything I wanted to see as a manga reader. Extending character moments while still keeping things compact so mappa can fit in the GOOD shit this season. Simpler designs mean they get to go even crazier when the action really picks up, every concern I had going in is gone now
I was surprised at how somewhat despicable Gojo is at this point in the story. Best of all, the cause is the same thing that makes us love him later: self-confidence.
when you think about it, gojo was an overpowered teenager who was also somewhat popular and good looking. him being so cocky makes perfect sense, especially as an immature teenager. we're gonna see him change throughout the arc, same for geto.
I mean really the only thing that changed from season 1 gojo was his views on the "weak" but otherwise he's still arrogant albeit toned down in season 1 and he still doesnt listen to the higher ups and still strong as hell.

Just some additional info/clarifications: JJK season 1 takes place in 2018, JJK 0 the movie is mostly in 2017, and the Gojo flashback is in 2006, so about 12 years from our current timeline. Megumi's sister isn't dead, just comatose. You're right that his dad was described by Megumi essentially as a deadbeat who named him a girl's name when he born and then abandoned him. That reference that Gojo was talking about with Tengen as becoming Skullgreymon was a Digimon reference, lol Nanami is indeed a year younger than Gojo, so he'll be a first year this season. I think the fact that he's younger but seems so much more mature (and also worn down by the world/his career) is kind of the charm of his character. I guess just a small distinction as well, Geto tames curses (think Pokemon trainer) so they're still "curses" under his control, not technically shikigami, which are kind of unique to a person's technique. Megumi's 10 shadows technique only includes specific 10 shikigami, whereas Geto can in theory consume and control any and all curses he encounters, so thousands upon thousands.

Pay close attention to Gojo and Geto’s dynamic, and how their respective ideologies, attitudes and philosophies change and develop throughout. Especially Geto is someone to keep an eye on. Probably the most important character in JJK. Hope you enjoy the part that elevated this anime to another level for me! Season 2 and onwards are about to be INSANE. Rivals AOT in terms of writing and characters for me.

just some info for you guys: the first 5 episodes will be about gojo and geto's past and the other 18 will be the shibuya incident arc back in the present with yuji and the others. both arcs are great this season. another thing, you guys are like the second rection channel that re-watched JJK and said they enjoyed it much more while re-watching it which i find pretty interesting. i enjoyed watching JJK a lot on first watch but there are a lot of details that can go unnocited but by re-watching we can definitely appreciate certain things and characters more for sure.
First, Nanami is a year younger than Gojo and he appeared in op and ed with other characters. The rest of ss2 is the Shibuya crash arc, the most evaluated and anticipated arc. Finally, Tengen-sama was mentioned in the exchange arc of the two schools and explained by Geto in episode 21.
Jjk is so much better on a second watch because it's easy to miss the depth of the themes and characters the first time around,.its a bit more subtle than other shonen that way, not anything else lol it goes balls to the wall

Characters moral standpoint are fascinating in JJK and seeing Geto & Gojo as teenagers parralled with the current timeline, makes for an interesting arc.
Loving the new direction for this season. The new series director is most recently known for Chainsaw Man episode 8. Their vision for this second season is all over this first episode, which I think was directed by them. It definitely looks different than season one, but I think for the better and will pay dividends as we go further into the content that's gonna be adapted this season.
The art style in S1's is more detailed, this season's is more simplistic and clean that's why the drawings look more manga-like. That also means animation in general will be more smooth and fluid and probably why they changed it so fights would be more dynamic and look better aesthetically.

The art style in S1's is more detailed, this season's is more simplistic and clean that's why the drawings look more manga-like. That also means animation in general will be more smooth and fluid and probably why they changed it so fights would be more dynamic and look better aesthetically.
