@@DirtPerfect you got me really thinking now I kinda got a theory of maybe why the old boys that first put these on a combine may have put them on backwards I wonder if it would back out better with them backwards maybe they knew if they got stuck going forward they had half a chance backing out with them in this direction you never know what some of the old timers were thinking lol I seen alot of combines with the drives tires on backwards for that very reason....I've heard stories that the guy that originally owned these tracks had them on a M2 Gleaner and he had built a push bar off the rear axel and would push on it with a D4 cat many times the dozer would get stuck and the combine would keep going I kinda thought about assisting it with our D85 LGP New Holland dozer but I don't think that will be necessary with rear wheel assist.....it's a 6 roller undercarriage and the pin is centered between the 6 so visually there is no offset other than what the idler moves I have the head on it rite now setting in the shop and I've got a really good plan on how to make it drive I just need to get some sprockets in the morning

I put a set like that on a john deere 95. The hole in the frame was off center and I had to run them backwards to clear the head. Biggest downfall with this type is you've got to run them fairly loose so they can pivot, then you have to be careful not to run them off the idler when you turn. Mine steered pretty good in dry ground but in the sloppy stuff you need good brakes.

I ran tracks on a JD 7720. They help a lot in soft ground. Moving farm to farm was the main trouble. I made a trailer that I could drive the front axle up on and tow the combine with our JD 8640. One thing to remember on these types of tracks. Try to make long/sweeping turns. The sub frame and the track frames are not near as heavy duty as a dozer so the twisting action can break/crack the frames. I had more trouble with the combine mounting frames than the actual track frames.
On the pads being on backwards. The track frames have the tensioners in the front like they should be so switching side to side would move them to the rear which would not be the best. I could not tell in the video but are the links directional??? If not maybe unbolting the pads and turning them around would be the easiest way to switch the direction.
I just subscribed to your channel. I like seeing guys making things work over just spending mountains of money. I do not bother watching guys that spend millions of dollars on equipment. Many of those guys are just racing check books.

I don't know how the expect your rings to seat with a hone job like that, compression will be low, and she will use a lot of oil! :-P LoL In all seriousness, talk to the people you bought the tracks from, they likely had to solve the same problem, OR if you are lucky they may still have the old head in the weeds you can get the adapter setup from, maybe, but you used up a lot of luck on those track adjuster bolts, so maybe not!! :-)

Ok so if you swapped track frame right to left and left to right and kept adjusters forward. Would that widen or narrow the stance? Kinda like adjusting front rims on a tractor. Maybe would be wide enough to fit head on then. Hard to tell on the video. Thinking outside the box on this.

Also the head on line up for left side what I suggested is figure out distance in shaft to head then hub system with 2 bearings weld on gear or belt pulley each side or plus idler in middle too take slack of chain or belt ! Plus have hub so grease up bearing on pulley or chain sprocket on metal shaft of header and combine plus idler!

When we switched from tires to tracks on our combines I was skeptical at first . But now almost 12 years later I wouldn't go back to tires . At first our johndeere 9870sts couldn't travel very fast like 12 or 13 mph but the newer systems can travel at 20 to 25 mph easily and smoothly. Even in dry years we still enjoy the fact of reducing compaction and ease of mind if it does get muddy. Great work !
